I had the subtitles turned on while watching this video, and when the wooden piston story came up and you guys stopped talking to look outside and listen to that bike passing by, the auto-generated closed caption "heard" the exhaust sound and auto-generated the word "Music" for that exhaust! Who says robots don't have souls? :)
It’s amazing to learn how the upgrade and custom guys tackle their work with a synergy between extra power and impact on other factors of the bike. So, credit to you for meeting these guys and letting them speak so passionately about their work . Great stuff…
in 2020, I did the Hammer Performance 1275 upgrade on my 2002 883, gutted my stock exhaust, added torque cones, upgraded clutch, stator and regulator, changed the stock 4" Hg VOES with a 6" Hg VOES, and added the hardtail bars to the rear.
I started on an 883 2 days out of the Army in 1989. 7 HDs later, I ended up with a Limited. A 1200 will be mine Thursday. Trading the giant Limited bagger after I ended up riding alone for the last year...and after many, many cross country trips... I did 2500 miles last summer alone and I just don't enjoy that giant bike by myself! I'm so happy to get back on a Sportster in less than 48 hours! (The deal is all set at the dealership) I know I have said how incredibly gorgeous you are...you remind me on my German almost fiance Illse...she was so great but didnt want to leave and I didnt want to live in Germany forever... Anyway, watching your channel STARTED with me watching you... but after a few months I really, really had some amazing memories of all the great times and miles I had on my old 883. I'm getting a 2008 anniversary edition 1200 in 2 days. I've come full circle- back to a Sportster- and I'm thankful to you and your channel!
OUTSTANDING. I sold my first year Fatboy in 99. Black leather was still the new leisure suit. $2500 more than I paid for. 23k miles. Except the handle bars? I would love that bike. 🦅❤
I kept the single disc up front on my dyna, but chose an oversized arlen ness rotor and it is much better than stock. Even riding aggressively in the mountains and panic stops feel more composed instead of the stock front brake feel of anemic at best. Hope that is helpful - high five from California!
That second bike that rode up is gorgeous! The paint, the decal on the tank and those bars, it looks sssoooo industrial and bad-azzed! Your bike just plain sounds angry.... :)
Simon built it to keep. Jack had to beg and be very persistent to become an owner of ‘The Bike with no Name’. I love the new ‘big boy’ sound. Absolutely love it. My parents here are too very impressed.
Good job on your videos! I have owned about 5 Sportsters as they are the best engineered of the Air cooled Harley motors. My last was 2009 XR1200 that put out about 90 horsepower. I am interested in your dyno figures, Good Luck!
I have not used valve seals because I got the heads prepped by someone else. (but they did it correctly). maybe different people did different aspects and didnt communicate status. just a thought.
Always enjoy these. Simon's apehanger bars look very distinctive, but I don't know about comfortable? Incredible about that wooden piston - an eco alternative maybe?
Ya I did a hammer 1275 kit on my 883 and it was well worth it. Also, the folks at Hammer are great - good videos and support. For me the insurance saving for an 883 title make it worth it to get an 883 and upgrade it. Thanks for the video. Sportsters are fun to modify - maybe think about a wire tuck in your future videos too. Cheers
Greetings from south africa .I have the same kit on my bike.also had a sloppy front brake the bike don't stop when u ride hard .sorted that problem with an r1 front end bearings and stuff needs work in the neck of the frame but stops on a dime Regards mike
At 1250 its nifty At 1275 it's ALIVE AT 1200 JUST GO HOME A HIGH COMPRESSION 1275 Hammer Performance 120+ kit Dyno'ed On " High Octane " pump gas Energy one +25% clutch pack With a Goodyear Carbon/Kevlar drive belt & "R" compond Tires W/ 6 piston Brake caliper Front & 4 piston caliper brake Rear With best suspension you can afford 😎 & you can keep up with anyone
We once had a Goldwing come into the dealership where I worked for a new rear tyre. The rider had suffered a puncture while touring in France and limped home on an emergency plug repair. When we took the old tyre off we found a military calibre bullet inside the tyre - the cause of the puncture. The guy had been riding close to a military firing range apparently!!! OK not in the engine but 😱
Imagine if you had bought a 1200 Sporty and then did a Stage 3 on that... wow! But anyway, what a beautiful bike this has become. Happy days👍. If this is the bike you had in the Van when you were in 🇱🇹, I hope you went with "midi me" to see the castle and lakes at Trakai. Greets as usual from 🇨🇭, Steve.
I’m Lithuanian Steve, maxi me (he’s officially an inch taller then me) have seen it all and been everywhere. As he spends in Lithuania nearly all Summers and sometimes Christmas too 😃 Greeting to 🇨🇭 from 🇱🇹.
@@tomboyabit yeah, I know you're Lithuanian but did not know "maxi me" is so often in 🇱🇹. I am planning on a trip to your country for next year and have fallen in love with the Trakai area just from looking at YT clips.
@@millinutz Waw, amazing! You definitely need to eat kibinai there, that area is famous for that. As well as popular weddings location. Do you think I should show more around the country? What you’d like to see, that you haven’t seen already?
@@tomboyabit definately show more of Lithuania. What with your little tour around where you grew up and Freddie Dobbs's videos around Vilnius, I'm going to be making my way tbere for sure. Half tempted to get on tbe eurostar next week to be honest.

I"d recommend staying away from upside down forks. A friend hates working on them. The tubes are more exposed to rock's 'n bugs, and leaky seals vs standard forks unless you have the time / cash to fix. Bigger diameter disk and upgraded calipers ... what did Jonsey cost. Later D
Much less flex on USD forks and everyone that I have/had has plastic protectors for the tubes. If a tech is not used to working on them they can be a bit tricky, but once you have done a few seal jobs it is about the same effort as standard forks.
Is that challenge limited to motorcycles, cause I had a chevy 350 in a 72 camaro die by sudden oil starvation because the oil pump sucked up a dead mouse. Little bastard built a nest in the sump while it was stored in a barn
One stupid question, what's the legal aspect in UK for "upgrading" the engine, moving from 883 to 1200cc ? Do u need to pass through a re-homologation or validation from automotive dept?
My old auto mech teacher was a desert rat and they had to do a repair on an engine with a leather boot soul piston top to get them out of a situation. oh and they used to cook there food in Diesel as they didnt have cooking oil. now does that get me award?? lol In Barry College S Wales.
I'm late to this video, but if you still have this bike,I have a 2016 Iron 883 with a Hammer Performance 1275 kit, I have the same exhaust as your bike as well, my bike has a 2012 Yamaha R6 Inverted Forks conversion, video of my bike is on my page ...

When you started the bike up at the end my speakers said thanx🤗
Wow Awesome Build ! That S&S Hooligan kit makes that Sportster really tremble !!! Make sure you use Loctite. Specially on those sissy bar screws.😃😉
Love your passion for making your bike the best it can be ... that exhaust is absolutely KILLER!

@@tomboyabit Hi nice motorbike and you look stunning
As a retired mechanic I've seen seized, broken and f-upped engines and parts, never saw a pushrod bent like that.
The Sportster 883R had a double disc set up you could probably use that or modify it to make it fit. And get some Progressive springs for the forks.

did hammer 1275 also. 90+hp kit. they were great help.
I would have thought you would have asked Simon about the front end as he would have done something similar in the past.
She did ask...... I said brake earlier and pull harder 🤣🤣🤣 nothing wakes you up more than shit brakes 🤣👍
Bollox. Now I want a Harley. Never thought I'd say that!
Come over to the dark side
Great episode 👏
Getting the heads really makes a big difference. Even just putting 1200 heads will gain you 10-15hp

The phrase 'polishing a turd' comes to mind And yes, I have owned a sportster.
About to upgrade my sportster, Why Hammer over S&S? Thx great channel
It's sounds amazing 👏👏👏x
You have a whole new motor. Once you pull the pistons, you in essence have a new motor.
If it where mine, i would break it in, in a weekend, 😂 i could not wait so long to test it.
How much money did this upgrade cost you - total, labors, gaskets, everything?
That does sound nice!

Less maintenance. I was doing lots of miles.
