I want to say a big thank you to the Fuego Company for sponsoring this video and supporting my channel!
My advice for grilling a steak: Lightly rub steak in 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Then salt and pepper both sides and add steak seasoning, such as Montreal Steak Seasoning or Lawry's. Let the steak sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, then put on grill at direct high heat, grilling both sides enough to cook it to your liking. I prefer medium rare.
Thanks for watching and supporting my channel!
Great video! Just purchased one!
That's cool! My son said this grill makes the best burgers.
Great summary. Just bought one and got the natural gas converter. Can’t wait to try it out. Just have to get my rusty gas cap off my gas line, 😤 The Fuego is a perfect size for small decks and I love the way the grill top opens to the side. PS-Love the music at the end of your video, too. Wish it played on longer, lol.
Thanks, I heard they upgraded the paint since I made this video. As far as the music, it found a while for me to find the right fit. Glad you like it, enjoy!
@@MarkThomasBuilder Who’s the band? Love it!
@@michaelcochran5228 Thanks, I bought it on the pond5 website several years ago. I think it's called Cinematic Rock. I didn't see it on there recently.
Great video!!!!...looking into this grill at Home Depot...thanks for a great review...cheers!!!
Thanks, I use mine all the time. I don't believe these grill are available in Home Depot or any other big box store yet. I provided an Amazon Prime link to it. They ship from California.
yes, HD has it for $450-$500...but shopping around for better price.
That's cool! They weren't available there at the time that I made this video. Thanks for the update!
How about the clean up? Does grease go into a grease catch?
Great video, Mark! Are there any obvious cons to this grill compared to others you have used before? Is it comparable to the Weber Gas Grills? Which style do you prefer?
That's a good question. I am a fan of both grills and haven't had the Fuego in the summer yet. If you want to use woodchips to add a smoke flavor in the Fuego, you have to make up a foil pouch, which is actually pretty easy. I for sure need mesquite smoke when grilling salmon, so I'm glad it's possible on the Fuego. My son recently said the burger I made on the Fuego was the best he's ever had. I eventually plan to get the griddle accessory for bacon, so I'm hoping the grease cleanup is easier than the Weber.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Can you make a video on how to use wood chips or charcoal for the Fuego grill? Thanks a bunch!
THanks for sharing!
You bet!
I've been searching for a good barbecue in the £300 range and this popped up. I love the look of it. How easy is it to keep clean and could it cope with a family of 4 as i don't really want a behemoth of a grill? Cheers
This grill easily cooks for a family of 4. It's very portable and stable. The cleanup is easy with the removable residue tray. I'm very happy with it and highly recommend it!
Thank you Mark. All good advice and comments. While I don’t have the grill yet, it does seem like the tray design needs some improvement. I am super excited to receive the grill. Next step is to find a propane tank nearby. I didn’t look at the detail on size/volume of tank. If you offer any other tidbits of advice, i am all ears. I am also going to look for a grill light that can easily be added to the handle. Might be tricky as the lid opens from side. Lighting on our condo balcony is not the greatest.
The standard 20lb tank fits in there nice. I bought a propane tank gauge scale to occasionally see how much LP is left, so you don't run out in the middle of cooking. I feel like this grill doesn't go through as much propane as my Weber did. As far as a light, I just use my iPhone light mostly, since I'm already using the stopwatch feature, like grilling 4 minutes per side for steaks, etc.
markthomasbuilder - thanks Mark. You are quite kind to reply to my questions. Fuego should enlist you as an Ambassador. What area of the country is your business?
Thanks so much, I'm in Michigan.
Hey Mark! Now that you've had this grill for awhile, do you have any update on how you are liking it? Is it holding up well still? Any issues from long term use? Thanks for the video!
Thank, I still use it quite a bit. There's some paint that flaked off the lid over the winter and now it's starting to rust is my only issue. It does seem to take longer to cook than my old grill. The upside is that the food doesn't burn, lol.
A great video
Thanks!
Hi Mark - i am considering the Professional Fuego for Father’s Day gift. We live in high rise condo so the size seems perfect. Do you have suggestions on propane tank or tips/tricks from your knowledge? And how long does the grill take to heat up, before putting steaks on? Also, the side tray looks a wee bit flimsy.....does it flip down when not in use? Or do you need to remove it? And lastly, are you still a big fan? As it has been a while since you posted the video and not sure if there is a newer version. Thanks much. Suz
Hi Suz, I'm still using the grill on a regular basis. The grill sounds like a good option for a high rise condo. It stores in the corner easily and it's very stable. I live in a high wind area, so it seems the wind makes the grill takes longer than my Weber Silver B. I've had a paint issue on the lid recently, but noticed that Fuego just upgraded to a porcelain enamel lid. I also need to replace the rusty diffuser panel, which I'd say is probably because I didn't cover it consistently when in storage. The side tray needs to be removed it you use the cover. I find that I don't ever use it since it's so small. My youngest son says the burgers taste the best on that grill. Hope that helps!
So you've had it a few months now, still happy? Are there any disadvantages to the slightly unusual design?
I have a 22" Weber Kettle charcoal grill which I like (similar shape and size), but it sits next to my more traditional Charbroil with side shelves and side burner so I have someplace to set things down. I also added a hanging rack to the kettle just to give me someplace to hang things since there is no place to set things down. If the kettle was all I had I would likely do something like build a "grilling center" (like the more expensive Weber Kettles have) for it to sit in to give me some workspace.
I also wonder about the round burners. On the traditional grill and the kettle if I need 2 heat zones I usually split it into a right/left thing. The ring burners make me wonder if there wouldn't be enough direct area unless there is some way to use only the inside burner. If I want to do indirect I usually do 2 piles of coals, one on each side and a drip pan in between- that works well for something longer like a roast, a good size beercan chicken or even 2 smaller ones, and even works fine for a turkey as big as 20some lbs (yes, I grill a turkey every thanksgiving). I'm not sure that would work the way the Fuego is set up unless the outside burner directs heat outwards.
Those area a lot of good questions. The Fuego advertises indirect heat by turning the outside burner on the the inside one off. There isn't a way to have heat to only one side, like you mentioned with the charcoal option. I find the Fuego to cook a little slower than my Weber Genesis Silver B, but that works fine, since the food seems to always taste good. My youngest son always raves how great the food tastes when I grill on the Fuego. What's interesting is that he's a very picky eater. I also have the side table accessory, which is kinda small, but still holds a plate. I'm not sure if you can get a turkey in there. Hope that helps.
markthomasbuilder wow I'm surprised that you're saying that it cooks slower than the Weber. I've seen a couple tests comparing it to various Weber's and it heats up faster and gets hotter in every one that I've seen.
Do you feel there is a taste difference? Having kids myself I know how they can sometimes get attached to something and decide it's better just because they like the item better. For that matter my kids swear that my burgers are better than anyone else's even if cooked on the same grill and I don't know of anything I'm doing different. For a while I passed off thousand island dressing as dad's special burger sauce but once my kids found out that it was Thousand Island one of them needs to have it on everything like chicken nuggets and french fries. ;-)
Haha, that's a funny story. When you ask about the cooking time, the Fuego heats up faster because the burner tube is closer to the cast iron grate. My example is if I cook a sirloin steak on the Weber for 8 minutes on high, it is somewhere between medium to medium-rare. On the Fuego, I cook it for 9.5 minutes to get the same result. I like it for chicken, because it never dries it out as much as it does on the Weber.
Happy Father's Day, Mark! I just got a gift certificate for a new BBQ. I am curious if it has a solid cast iron grill or is it plated? Does the grill hold up to being scraped with a wire brush when cleaning? How has your grill held up over the last 5 years? Did it come with a cover or did you purchase one separately?
The grill didn't come with a cover and after 3 years, I moved back to another brand grill so I could put a smoker box in it. My son said the Fuego made the best burgers. I don't recall any issues with the cast iron or the pizza for that matter.
Is it easy to clean? I love the design. I'm thinking of getting rid of my webber for this model.
It's easy to clean as long as you don't wait too long to do it.
just bought one. hope it is a good one.
I put my Weber in storage and use this all the time. In the winter, when it's cold out, I sometimes plug 3-4 holes on top to help it cook faster. My son thinks the burgers taste better on this grill.
Hi Cato , are happy for this Fuego gasgrillen, iam thinking to buy one
@@adnanjabr100 yes. Had it a couple of years now. I’ve used it about 25 times and it still looks brand new. Great BBQ.
Question: have you tried using smoking chips with the Fuego yet? What results have you had and how do you set it up on this grill?
Yes, I soak wood chips in water for 30 minutes first. Then, I make a thin pouch out of foil, poke holes in it and put it just under the cast iron grill. It starts smoking about 5 minutes after the grill is up to full temperature.
Excellent! I experimented with that technique using a regular grill, I just wasn't sure if the configuration of the flames etc. with the Fuego would make it at all challenging to do. Thanks so much for the quick response, much appreciated. :)
You're welcome. One of my first concerns was using woodchips. Mesquite gives Salmon better flavor and Hickory is great for steak, at least in my opinion. 😄
Did it ever fall down in a blizzard or high wind condition, like my Weber?
Great question... I was worried about that because I live in a windy area. I locked the wheels and kept the 20lb tank in the grill and it hasn't blown over or even moved actually.
@@MarkThomasBuilder My Weber Genesis fell over in 55 mph gusting blizzard in Ohio last year. All the front controls were busted. I left the tank in that too and I was afraid it was going to explode with any more collissions. If anyone was watching me, it must have been a funny sight trying to stand it back up in 55mph blizzard conditions. Now, I'm wondering if I should just get some post mounted grill that bolts to the deck.
Oh man, that's too bad. Sounds like a good idea, securing it to the deck.
I’m a small family with a large deck. Do you think I should go for the Element instead of this larger one?
Ooh, that's a good question. I've only tested this grill out and like the size and the taste of the food it grills. I'd stick with this one if you want my opinion.
I am sort of thinking the same way. I’m buying a 2nd home and I will probably be there alone most of the year. The rest the time, no one will be there. I hoping I have visitors and daughters are coming. It’s $150 more than the smaller one, which is insignificant over the long term, and I wouldn’t want to make a long-term mistake. I have a really nice Duncane grill for a long time but it’s falling apart after 20 years.
I think you'll be happy with the bigger one.
What beverage do you enjoy while grilling?
Coke! And if you can remove the grill and put a wok on there, you got the method to produce asian restaurant quality stir fry. Normal stove heat isn't hot enough, you need grill style heat! Brings out the umami flavor in everything especially veggies :)
I enjoy stir fry. Never thought of trying it on a grill.
I got a big round thick slap of metal from a thailand food importing company out of the pacific northwest, and I use that to grill just like the hu hot mongolian style grill, you just need high heat and a propane grill has enough. A big pancake griddle cast iron unit may allow for mongolian grilling as well. The wok may be better for getting down to the fire on this unit you have since it's round on the bottom and would sit in there, and those are dirt cheap at walmart or anywhere. Get a carbon steel one if you can, they're nonstick once they get seasoned (ala cast iron frying pans).
Peter I don't think I've tried that while grilling. Sounds good!
Glass of Sancerre for my Lovely One
I have one the grilling surface is wider than circuler pull out greese pan the grill tapers to it but theres slots so the greese drips onto the deck and the gas knob.so you haft to get a rug to put under grill also the top is low so you cant close the lid with beer chicken.I had a weber wich bear destroyed, the weber was much better I would not repurchase a fuego knowing now and having one
I didn't notice any grease issues. The lid on mine had a couple paint flakes, but I see they upgraded their powder coating. I found my Weber Silver B to work better for beer can chicken, but I was able to close the lid on this one.
is it possible to install 2 of those clip-on side trays?
I've only tried one on the left side, but it definitely looks like you can install 2 of them.
Make a video how do u clean it
Where’s the dip tray...
The tray just below the burner pulls out for easy cleaning. I should do a 10 month follow-up video and show the cleanup. Thanks for the suggestion.
markthomasbuilder what is that tray made of, SS, or something that will rust away?
wow, Awsome!
The grill is still going strong!
Yes, I know that. Your review video was great! When I saw your video, I felt how can I take your food. It was amazing.👌
How long did you grilled the steak on each side? Looks good.
I normally go 3.25 to 4 mins per side, depending on the steak thickness. I like it medium rare.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thank you! I appreciate your response. I like mine medium rare too. 🥩
Definitely ice cold beer!
Nice choice!🍻
Nice
Thanks
Where did you purchase?
This one was from the manufacturer but I'm believe they're on Amazon now.
I think what I like best is… He didn’t really seem like he knew much about steaks. Yes he seems like just an average Joe to me.
Bourbon
On the rocks for those summer nights?
I just have a homemade rectangular metal box on legs. I put charcoal on a grate and put the grate over the kitchen gas grate and start the charcoal(no need to purchase lighter fluid). I put the charcoal in the outside rectangular grill . Cheap and works fine and tastes better than ANY gas grill.
I like charcoal once in awhile. The gas is so convenient and I add wood chips for some smoke flavor.
