- Review and problems of the MA1201 and MA0800.
The large unit is reading inaccurately, and the filters do dry up somewhat frequently, but I still enjoy the use of the humidifiers and currently do not plan to return or replace them. - Розваги
It's also impossible to clean the fan since the top of the unit is held with special screws requiring a special tool (they look like regular star-head screws, but aren't).
Thank you so much for this review video. We are always trying to improve all of our models! Any feedback is helpful!
I have some feedback: I bought this model new for $100 from Amazon two years ago. It's gotten about two months a year of work here in Alabama, is stored in a dry place...and the motor has already seized. I was told there's no way to sell parts for this, or replace it. Not a great way to get return customers, especially when my previous Holmes unit worked for 10 years with no problems.
Thanks for this video. I just conducted the exact same tests as you, and thankfully my sensor is reading properly!
I just bought the small machine but when I try to change the percent then the speed, the fan shuts off. So then I have to unplug it and just let in run on 70 on auto. How come I can't change my %# and speed w/o fan shutting off? Do u think I got a defective machine or is my humidity that 79%? I got the machine bcuz I need a humidifier even tho I live in FL, bcuz I get bad headaches and nosebleeds because my A/C runs 24/7 usually 12 months a year. Any siggestion? Am I doing something wrong?
It’s a lot easier to put in the water treatment each time you fill than taking ten times longer to clean the filters
I agree; got Essickair bacteriostatic treatment from amazon; really helped.
FYI for anyone who is buying the MA1201 model in 2018, I ordered one from Amazon the day before and it arrived today. I am happy to report that the number did increase on mine when I breathed on it so either the one in the video was a defective unit, or they have fixed the issue since the purchase of the one in the video.
Awesome to hear! Thanks for letting us know! :D
@@HyperVegan Thank YOU for doing actual review videos on these two humidifiers because no one is doing any real ones! Your video convinced me to go with the 1201 instead of the 0800. May I ask, how are they holding up? I know you recommend the pedestal model the most but put of the two console models, how are they holding up and do you still recommend either of them if the pedestal model is out of budget? Do you prefer another brand over any of the Aircare models that you've used? Thank you, once again!
No problem! I'm glad I could help out. I've only owned the three models you just mentioned. If my 1201 functioned properly I probably wouldn't have bought the pedestal. That being said, during the winter I still use the pedestal in my living room and 0800 in the bedroom. I replace the filters at the beginning of the season and use the antibacterial treatment Essick No.1970. The treatment made maintenance much easier last year compared to my old method of just flipping the filter. ;)
@@HyperVegan Awesome! Thank you so much for the info and update!
You use this one just for a bedroom? It says it's a whole house humidiifer that can cover 2600 sq ft... do you think that is accurate? I just bought one for my 1800 sq ft home and it seems to be taking a long time to raise the humidity level. The water's disappearing from the tank though so clearly it's doing something.
BTW the humidistat on mine works correctly, it doesn't have the reversed numbers problem
Mine is full but the "F" keeps signaling every 4 seconds or so and I fill it up just fine. What's that about?
Damn. I was looking for a whole house humidifier, but I do not want to go back to math class.
+MAD King lol! Last night I picked up the Aircare EP9800. It's reading the correct humidity and has 9 adjustable fan settings. It's filled at the unit and is neat because it's a pedestal. I'll have a short video on it in a few days. :)
I just ordered one and I will try it myself.
To add to what I just wrote: I have 3 other hygrometers in the room and while they're not exactly even, they confirm that the unit is measuring humidity.
How do you clean the damn fan . ? None of the screws open anything
Thank you for the review
I bought a system in October, and have no issues with it. If that was a switch you could turn the machine on and off with it.🇺🇸
So it seems like this brand and model is well liked, and most people here recommend it. I'm in the process of buying one. Or should I try another?
Does anyone know how to get inside these machines to clean the fan blades? Thanks!
Dang, came to this video also hoping for an answer to that!
We are having issue keeping the filter wet
someone soldered that silicone diode backwards
Hi when you received the new unit was the humidistat reading the correct humidity. I just set mine up and it's doing the same thing. Thanks
wes mair Hey! Yes it's been doing this since I took it out of the box. In my unboxing video I think I noticed it was wrong but I didn't know why.
im lost, did the NEW one that replaced the other one that didn't read right, read correctly?
RockdefRadio the small version reads correctly. The large one is reading the inverse. I never got the large one replaced, I just keep it on medium 24/7. Does that help? :)
Mine won’t work until I rise the humidifier to 40 or so then the speed picks up. I can only run it on low. Can you replace the motherboard mine is wacked out I guess.
Do you ever actually see steam with these units?
No
When you bought another one did it work? I facing the same problem.
Mine is showing the proper humidity levels. I bought mine in 20202
My aircare flashes CF when it needs a filter change.after changing it it continues to flash CF? How can I remedy this?
Hey Ken! If you leave it unplugged for a certain length of time then plug it back in the message should be gone. I do not remember how long. Maybe try an hour or so to be safe.
HyperVegan I pressed and held all sorts of combinations no change. I then thought of your remedy and it worked thanks for your input!
@@kensullivan3021 No problem! :)
I recently bought one of these and mine clearly measures the amount of humidity in the air. I don't understand what he's talking about. Just shut the thing off, wait, and then turn it back on. If the number goes lower then it's measuring humidity. (unless maybe you're doing it in the summer when the humidity is rising). I've never heard of anything measuring "dryness" in the air.
+Russell Branca maybe you got a unit from a different batch. I've compared the readings to two other humidifiers, my dehumidifier, and a thermometer/hygrometer, and the Aircare console reads the inverse of what they are. If all the other units say 40, this unit says 60. I'm glad you got one which works properly!
not hard to understand....one readout is reading backwards (more reads less)...the one on the big unit. Maybe the wires got hooked up backwards in China
Does this humidifier has both humidifier and dehumidifier functions? Is that how it controls humidity where we set in the room?
It is not a dehumidifier, only humidifier. If you set the number lower than the room's humidity then it shuts off the fan until the room needs more humidity. Hope that helps!
HyperVegan oddly I’ve set mine to a desired humidity level of 55 with fan in auto mode. Yet my humidifier is reporting room hunidity of 53 and yet it’s not kicking on? Is there a +/- range?
From what I've noticed on my units they need to be at least 5 away to kick on. May be the same with that unit.
would this be a good choice for a 550 sq ft apartment? Also how is the noise
Do u have to use distilled water

Mine is doing the same when I change the percent then the speed, the fan shuts off too and I have to unplug. did you ever get yours figured out? Do I need to send it back for a replacement ?
How do you clean the fan from one of these? Well I seen the screws that you have to remove, why they cant just use normal screws !!!!! Jerks, Now I will have to go out and buy a special screwdriver to remove the screws just to clean the fan >:(
As for the filter buy a new one
then main reason a humidifier is needed is because your central furnace system is cooking the water (humidity) out of the air, thereby drying out your sinuses and making you and the house less comfortable. A dry sinus is never good especially when sleeping.
You "don't get into that stuff....." like reading the directions?
Filters cannot just be used indefinitely. You'll stop putting moisture in the air and more importantly - things like mold and bacteria easily grow in a constantly moist environment. You should follow the maintenance instructions. Pretend that what you breathe is as important as what you eat.
BTW, filters get dry when not evaporating water from the reservoir. One reason can be they are caked with minerals from the water.
+Roger Thornhill haha thanks, I learned my lesson last year. This year I'm using Essick No 1970. It's working really well and my filters are looking normal after a month or two of use. It's relatively cheap and easy to use.
Also I''m using an Aircare pedestal humidifier instead of the console which read incorrectly, and still have the mini console running in the bedroom.
Thanks for your comment! :)
Remember: in goes water with minerals, out comes vapor minus most of the minerals. The minerals have be someplace - either in your filter (in an evaporative unit)or(in the case of a warm air humidifier) they cake up the heating element and have to be removed with vinegar, etc. I am CHEAP and don't like paying $10 a filter for my older sunbeam evaporative humidifier, BUT I run it constantly(3 gal/day) I have to replace the filter evry 3-4 weeks. But a filter gets crusted, new filter is night and day. I need the humidity.
What humidity % do you recommend for this unit? I just added one to our house. Have it set to 50% and Fan A-Auto.
I generally have mine somewhere between 50 and 60 depending on how well it spreads throughout the house. If your humidistat reads properly then A (Auto) is a good choice. :)
50 -60% is way too humid, and depending on how cold it gets where you live, you'll going to have condensation form on your windows which can cause mildew growth. Your relative humidity should depend on the outside temperature. If it's between 30 and 40 degrees, you can set it to 45-50% humidity. Between 20 and 30 degrees, 35-40%. Below 20 degrees, 25-30%.
High humidities can have have devastating infrastructure effects and can induce the growth of mildew, not to mention, it can have effects on your health, low humidities too. In a perfect world, having humidity between 40-50% is ideal, but we don't live in an ideal world.
@@now192002 thanks for the details! This year I've had it at 50 or lower and haven't had any condensation, but it also hasn't been consistently cold yet. If I start noticing condensation I'll refer to your comment and see if that helps. Thanks!
Hey Bob, does this take into account indoor temperatures? The reason humidifiers are used is because hot and cold air hold different amounts of water. When it's cold out, there's less water in the air, and when that air is warmed it becomes dry relative to the temperature. If my house is set at a constant 70, why would I need to vary what my humidifiers are set to, if they are already adjusted to check for the relative humidity for the temperature? If it is colder that usual out, does it not just mean that the humidifiers will need to run more since the outdoor air has even less moisture? Is your chart only aimed at preventing condensation on windows due to the colder air causing water to more easily leave the air? My goal with humidifiers is to keep my pets and myself from having dry skin or coming down with illness. Is 25 to 30% high enough to do that indoors? Can properly insulated windows and air flow also play a role in condensation? Let me know if I've missed anything. 👍👍
It does, the greater the contrast between the temperatures outside and indoor, plus the amount of moisture inside, correlates to the risk of condensation.
has anyone found a form retaining net for the MAF for aircare?....or are we all doomed to have soggy wicks that sink and collapse?
try the EF2 replacement from BestAir
I just breathed on that little meter and the unit turned off. Is that proper?
Hey Victoria! I've never experienced that on any of my humidifiers or humidistats. It's likely a problem with your unit.
Weird... it then restarted. I’m wondering if it hit its “humidity goal” and turned off?? Anyways I’m praying this tho g makes my house 45%!
Fingers crossed!! :)
Does the humidifier leave white residue on furniture?
Hey Carole! No, I have never noticed any white residue. Even after beginning to use treatment for the water I have not noticed any residue. In my experience cool mist evaporative humidifiers are usually safe from that, but I remember as a kid my parents had a rotary type humidifier and it collected white residue.
Thanks for you response. I use a warm vaporizer now but am considering this humidifier.
Last season I got the pedestal humidifier from AirCare (same brand) and prefer it over the console humidifiers. I get compliments on it before people even realize it's a humidifier. It costs a bit more but the performance is worth it, plus it can be used as a table or stand. The only downside is that it doesn't have an automatic fan speed setting but there are 9 fan speed levels so you can choose the perfect volume for the room. :)
the white residue is the cacium and or hardness in your tap water. If you feed it with RO or distilled water you will not get the white powder. if you evaporate to hunidify the dissolved solids or white powder are not conveyed into the air they will remain in thewater and or attach to the heating coils.
Is the MA0800 quieter than the MA1201?
It depends on the fan level you put them on. The MA0800 is smaller so at the highest fan speed the MA1201 is likely louder, but if you leave them on speed 1 or 2 it will not matter.
Hi Matt! The EP9800 has 9 fan levels so it can be quieter, but at its lowest level it likely does not humidify very well. I keep mine around a 3 or 4 which is probably equivalent in noise to 1.25 on the MA1201 (if such a setting existed). I much prefer the 9800 these days and don't use the two consoles anymore.
You blow humid air on a sensor its going to give you a bad read.. also......... you put it on top of the humid air coming out.. its going to go up.. weird video.
I agree. I don't know what the point of the video is. Mine is not working properly and I was looking for some help with it. I may watch again, I think I must have missed something
The video is to demonstrate the problem I had with the large humidifier. I was proving that the large humidifier is reading incorrectly by applying humid air and watching the reading go down instead of up. Due to this I cannot use the Automatic fan speed feature because the more humid the house gets, the faster the fan gets, causing it to over humidify the house. Let me know if you have any questions.
I mean, don't most modern thermostats all have rH? Just set it to whatever is actually accurate, though I fully grasp it is wrong, still
