The Melvins are an American rock band that formed in 1983. They usually perform as a trio, but in recent years have performed as a four piece with two drummers. Since 1984, singer and guitarist Buzz Osborne (also known as King Buzzo) and drummer Dale Crover have been the band's constant members. They are said to be "The Godfathers of grunge music."[citation needed] The band was named after a supervisor at a Thriftway in Montesano, Washington, where Osborne also worked as a clerk. "Melvin" was despised by other employees, and the band's members felt it to be an appropriately ridiculous name.
Originally formed as a hardcore punk band, the Melvins' music is influenced by Black Flag's mix of punk and metal on their album My War, and other slow punk acts like Swans and Flipper; however, their idiosyncratic approach, bizarre sense of humor, and experimentation make neat categorization difficult. Osborne has also stated that his guitar playing is more influenced by Black Flag than Black Sabbath, whom they are often compared to. They often favor very slow tempos, and their sludgy sound was a strong influence on music, especially Nirvana, Soundgarden, Green River, and many other bands from Seattle. Their protegés, however, tended to use more conventional musical structures with this sound. Melvins have also influenced many bands, including Tool] who are personal friends with the band; Crowbar, Mastodon[7] and Eyehategod,[8] who participated in a Melvins tribute album, and Boris, who took their name from the title of a Melvins song.
A 46 year old with a gray Afro blowing my mind to this day. Best band on planet earth. 30+ years of rawness.

i was a live sound engineer for many years, and worked with the Melvins many times and all I can say is that they are a class act. Much love...
They are so goddamn in tune with each other, it’s like they move and think as one organism. Tight fucking playing. One of the best bands ever.
wow!! i’d love to chat with you about their setup. i’ve always been curious about the front of house side of their live sound
@@TheRealGarfeild I'm awake, what would you like to know?
@ what years did you work with them? did you use any effects pedals up front? also did buzz’s guitar go through more eq-ing or was it just straight out of the amp into the pa
@@TheRealGarfeild [1] between 2006 and 2015 at various venues in San Francisco. [2] i am 99% sure that every show i worked with them I did their monitors, so I can't say with absolute certainty what exactly was happening at FOH. [3] in my experience, we just put mics on the cabs, old school style. there's probably some EQ applied at the FOH console for general balance.
That solid body guitar will need therapy after this concert...
Two bands playing as one: the Melvins and Big Business. Absolutely fuckin awesome!

The are the most amazing band in the world. Too heavy for the pop lovers, but just right for those who love real music by real people and a great double drum attack.
