What a great show! Tonya has a world of knowledge! I’ll look forward to her return and discussion on the microbials! Preach that calcium movement, Greg! We share that pet peeve concerning the blossom end rot myths!
I am so glad you did an in depth show with so much good information. I have a question that I didn't hear if you covered it though. What do y'all think about those soil tests from big box stores that have the small vials where you do them yourself at home? Better than nothing or better off leaving them on the shelf? The old goat is hiding in behind the bunny ears sitting on the shelf behind Greg.
Good show, and interesting for a experienced garden nerd like me. But for potential new gardeners listen up; you do not need to do ANY of this. The vast, vast majority of native soils will grow crops just fine. I've grown in all types of soil in different places. Just plant some stuff however and wherever you want, get some all purpose organic, or synthetic fertilizer. Feed them once a month or so, and go from there. You'll learn along the way. Do not over complicate things, get growing and harvesting.
Just sent in a soil sample to be tested and looking forward to seeing that is shows. The old goat is standing between the rabbits ear. Great video in tonight.
How necessary are soil samples in a raised bed? We amend the soil with garden soil each year and fertilize as necessary. Old goat is behind the big white rabbit behind Hoss.
It is recommended that gardeners test their soil at least every two to three years and make changes as needed to both pH and nutrient levels. An excess of nutrients may have accumulated from over-fertilization by zealous gardeners or nutrients may have been depleted from continued gardening or leaching.

Great info. I have really been focusing on my soil as much as my crops the past couple of years so that I can get more precise on fertilizer/ nutrient application. I geeked out a little over tonight's show. Thank you. Also the old goat is hiding with the rabbit tonight
Thank y'all. Enjoy these shows. Just picked some giant golden helios and cherry bell radishes from y'all. Wonderful taste. Mr old goat is behind the bunny on the shelf by Mr Hoss. Have a blessed week.
The old goat is hiding behind the bunny ears behind Greg. I enjoyed the show, I am a Texas Master Gardener and we have a very interesting soil study group and it is fascinating.
Love the new set, but maybe cut the table by a third length and width wise. All I see is table, not the stars/focus which are momma, Hoss and conversation.
Great show! Was glued to every word. How ever…I wished subjects of soil types and nutrients movement comes into play. For instance clay as a rule is high nutrient. My black clay delta gumbo, it may be rich but can it move and readily available? Yes, adding organic material and work in progress.
I would think your organic fertilizer would be helpful for blossom end-rot because it is high in calcium. Also calcium nitrate is a very soluble form of calcium and it should work well too. What do you know about using crab meal as a method of controlling nematodes? I tried it this year and it seems to help tomatoes, but too early to see with peppers and okra.
Great show. Lots of wonderful information. The old goat is hiding behind the bunny on the shelf behind Greg.
All that was a head scratcher with bits and pieces of useful information.

Evening! Good show. Looking forward to the one about microbial activity. Hopefully it will have a segment on worm farming. Lol.
