Honda 3-pins plug coils 15 years 98k km, car had no power & jerking badly. Changed spark plugs, not much different. Changed all plug coils, car like "new". Did use multimeter, old coils higher resistance than new. Thanks, good video, did 👍🍻
Yes, the old coils are OEM with much higher resistance than the aftermarket new ones.
short, simple, and great,
thanks bro
I appreciate your positive feedback. Thank you
The bad coil didn't have a short, it had an open. The 1 with dot on your meter indicates an open circuit.
You are correct. Thanks
@@eazidiy A lot of people get this mixed up. Otherwise, good video.
im not getting any reading on my new coils
@@loyalty3443 You have to be geting some kind of reading.
Yes totally agree
Got this shaking and poor idling too, with poor gas mileage. Will be doing this test today God willing.
Drive the same car
Let me know if the test assist with your diagnosis
Is this procedure is accurate? Because 1 of my coil have high resistance value. What's the problem?
It worked for me so far
Gracias muy buena informacion.
De nada!
Thank you it was great!
I appreciate your comment. Thank you
Good and simple
👍
i get the same with 1 through 4 of the small pins but get nothing from the plug end on all 4 ?
Coil is bad!
@@eazidiy its bad on all 4? in a running car?
@ivanrousseau5066 are you sure your multimeter probe could touch the coil inside? There should be a reading for any good coil.
Hello I owned my Toyota venza 2010 4 cylinder and I tested all 4 coil and none of them have ohs from pin 1 and the bottom of the coil, help please.
Are you sure the probe of your meter is touching the coil it?
thank you boss
You are welcome
Good video
Thanks a lot
You are welcome
Amazing video
Thank you!
The aftermarket ignition coil have a reading..But when I test the Toyota Denso Oem coil,it's not reading...I've done the same in another car..It has 2 oem and 2 aftermarket...I don't get any reading out of the old coil but the new one or aftermarket one has readings...Why??And the car that has no reading, also has no problem..It start and run okay
I don't have an answer for that
in this video pin 1 is ground/black alligator clip and pin 4 is positif 12 volt/Red alligator clip is it correct?
Yes or you can swap the pins. What you are testing for is the continuity in the resistance of the coil.
I bought a autozone ignition coil for my 2012 prius how long they usually last I put almost 100.000 miles
100k mileage or more
Thanks ❤
You are welcome!
Nice one Sir. Now I know how to test an ignition coil. New subscriber here to your channel for more interesting videos to come. Im also a content creator Sir. Thanks
Thank you for your comment and subscription 👍
Hello, thanks for this video. Open circuit is same that coil doesn’t work?
Yes. Coil is broken
@@eazidiy thanks for reply, one question pls: all ignition coils which are open circuit means that they don’t work properly? NGK authentic from official website but no reading resistance on secondary, so defective?
A coil is made of wires wound in it. So there must be a resistance reading if the coil is closed circuit ( meaning it is not broken). If open circuit, there won't be a reading. If you are testing a new coil and no reading, I will suspect the meter you are using for the test.
My car starts but doesn't accelerate. Could this be a fault of ignition coil?
There could be a lot going on with your car, I would suggest you get professional help. Thank you
Can anyone tell me about the wire of IGT in coil grips how it’s identified and how trace it using Multimeter.
Pin2 is ECM IGT signal wire and pin3 is the ECM IGF wire
ua-cam.com/video/Clp8pAjzDAo/v-deo.html
I didn’t get any reading from the spark plug connector from any coil, double checked , rechecked even removed the boots. Only reading from the pins of 35 for all. This tells me the new coils you got are different and got a reading of 16 instead of 35 which is different
The difference in reading of the coil depends on the resistance the turns of coil ( length of the wire), thickness of the wire and temperature. You should have get readings from the end-end of a wire or coil unless you have a open circuit ( broken).
@@eazidiy yes the resistance difference is not significant, k ohms between Oem coils and new aftermarket one. I had the same reading on the bad one and all coils and the way I figured it was bad was by switching it, ( s plugs were good ) and getting the Obd reading for the cylinder it was switched for. Other than that, the bad coil had the same reading as the good ones, at least I didn’t have to buy 4, it’s fixed. Still scratching my head or sometimes a bad coil will not give a bad reading 🙂
Good for you. I would have suggested you replace the four coils . Down the line, you will have to replace them.
i see you used 3 different wires. Where was the 3rd wire connected to?
I used alligator clamps to extend my connections from the probes of the multimeter to the pins of the ignition coil.
I tried on all 4 coils and got no reading on all when I checked through the SP connector. But the car still runs. I don't know if im doing it wrong but I did exactly what it on your video. what do you think should I do next?
I suggest you replace them but I will ask you seek professional help if needed.
is this method for all cars or just corolla???
Works for all cars with 4 pins ignition coil
@@eazidiy no thanks for replying, but millions of thanks for replying so soon, lol
there is no short on the faulty probe....by the way...it is open cricuit between +12v and spark plug connection... not a short circuit.
Thanks for the feedback.
And it’s no damage? It will generate spark normally?
What’s the mileage on your car
As at the time the video was recorded, I had 150k on the mileage
Pin 1 is 12v and pin 4 is ground, but what about the other 2 what are they for?
Pin2 is the ECM IGT signal and pin3 is ECM IGF signal. In the video, I tested the continuity of the coil resistance at pin1 (12v battery) and pin4 (ground)
