It used to be bread and pork were the only foods. There was only one kind of tree. There were only a couple of biomes. No villages or structures of any kind. No beds. No enchanting.
Diamonds were literally the end game. And it was so fun. I played 200 hours back then. I feel old. I used to share a minecraft beta on a flash drive at school when people had never heard of it.

I had two block thick walls and the corners were not filled. Sometimes, for whatever reason, monsters would spawn in one of those corners after I slept. Imagine my surprise when I go to sleep for the night, only to wake up to an explosion. Good times.
@@-dutchllama-1175 No. There was a time in minecraft where you would sleep, and the bed would kick you out of your sleep because a monster broke into your house while sleeping.
The reason why the combat update got a lot of backlash is because the people who were into the old combat got the whole system taken away from them and a much less preferable one put into its place.
The combat system got completely swapped out for a new one, and even in Minecraft, it resulted in the game basically being overwritten with another game and the community got split as a result. The PvP community especially got hurt by this, since the update basically told them to play this new game, when they enjoy playing the game they're already playing (which is why they're even playing at all). They already have a lot of strategies in this old system, and that's what they want to play. It's not a matter of "which system is better," it's a matter of "are you overwriting your game?"
Yes I am aware that Minecraft lets you play old versions. That's literally what a lot of PvP servers do.
I hope you enjoyed reading a comment placed on a nearly 3 year old video (as of the time of writing this comment).
Oh and footnote to anyone reading this who happens to be developing a game: balance patches are generally fine to do, since they're not overwriting a game, they're just fixing small issues.
I remembered that Minecraft for Mobile, was called "Minecraft: Pocket Edition".
When the old Stonecutter existed.

Most of the youtubers I watch still have no idea what they are
1) Before the Nether existed
2) Before there were beds, you had to wait out the night
3) When hunger wasn't a thing, food just healed hearts
4) When you couldn't sprint
5) Food didn't stack
6) Public survival servers actually had active player bases
If you got on a active one they often reset the world, so really any kind of base was pointless, I just play on a private server now
@@docpossum2460 Nah man, I still remember Xenocraft. 50+ players online most of the time and the world was reset like once a year
@@johnbishop9621 Still kinda eliminates the point, in my experience if you have other things to do it takes well over 1 year to reach the end game
True
Omg when hunger wasn't a thing I would always die.
As an original Minecrafter in 2010, I remember when there was a handful of biomes, health was never dictated by hunger but rather how many pieces of meat you had to fill it up instantly (no eating animation either, just click and instant health), and there was no end game to work towards. Just diamonds. Hell, I remember the Nether being introduced.
Yep, and meat didn't stack lol. Those were brutal times.
I remember the day boats got updated super vividly. I was at a friends house and me, her, and her two brothers were sitting on the couch playing pocket edition. I saw the new boat texture in the creative menu and was instantly interested in what was going on. And then I saw 2 people get in one and my mind was blown.
Only og’s remember:

I remember when the added repeaters. I was blown away by how much more compact you could make redstone builds. You could finally easily add delay. And extend red stone signals. Most changes have been the best, I think
I remember when food was eaten instantaneously, and it would just regenerate your hearts instead of hunger bar... I remember that at first I hated the new hunger bar and XP bar because I didn't understand it XD
I remember Minecraft PE Lite where there were barely any blocks and your worlds didn’t save
And everyone lost it!
It's not by mojang
I always build big castels and they were never saved
I remember playing pe once I was on survival, I found a zombie and it wouldn’t attack me, it wouldn’t move, so I nudged it into my base
Those were the good old days... until they removed them from app stores
Original minecrafters remember growing grass block by block not pushing it with a piston.
Wait you can push grass blocks now?
I used to do that on the old servers back when it was only creative mode. So satisfying once it all grew in.
If you wanted underground grass, you'd replace your underground stair case with dirt up to the surface and wait for the stairs to turn to grass so you could have underground grass.
YES! I remember it so well it was so painful. If you wanted grass on a platform in the air, you had to make like a scafold of dirt blocks touching the grass.... And just wait there for like hours until the grass grows onto the platform. God that was so painful.
Lol, dirt bridges everywhere for days 😂
Does anyone remember when Nether Reactor blocks were a thing? I used to have Minecraft: Pocket Edition in 2012-2013 and my dad, sister, and I would play together. I still remember some nights where I would be in my room and my sister would be in her room. She would be playing with a friend that she had over and I would just join in the server because that used to be a thing you could just join in whatever servers were local, I believe, and she would yell at me through the walls to get off and I would just prank and troll them. PS our bedrooms were Jack and Jill style bedrooms. Oh and my dad had made a replica of our house in his Minecraft server! 😂 I found it VERY impressive!
I remember when minecraft was the ultimate sandbox, with virtually no point to the game aside digging holes, and building things
Bit dull I thought.
Actually when it really started to pickup in popularity, I remember dismissing it at first because of my first experiences
Crazy to think how much the game has changed since, without really changing anything major about the core game.
It still basically is a game about digging and building
I remember when the only flowers in the game were a rose and a dandelion, and when the only colorful blocks were wool.
Me too, I miss roses but im happy there are more colourful blocks and such
personnally, i miss the old, much simpler minecraft
not to say today's bad, it's just, different. A different game, that i dont like as much anymore.

Same. I miss how simple it was tbh. I can’t enjoy it anymore
So elytra being introduced is considered "original" Minecraft?
I remember when there was only one kind of tree
Everyone remembers when there was only one tree. It's why we dont question oak being the dominant type of wood in minecraft's ecosystem and also be more prevalent in crafting
@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 quite clearly not true because the birch trees were added in Jan 2011 and most players began after that date
So only people who played before Jan 2011 will remember oak being the only tree, not difficult to comprehend

The sound of boats breaking still haunts my dreams at night. This gave me war flashbacks.
Only the OG's Pocket edition players remembering how we used to go to the nether, spawning the dimension by hand
Wdym
@@pacomatic9833 back in the day phones couldn't handle the nether dimension, so you had to spawn the nether with a totem that required a special block that doesn't even exist in the game nowadays and it generate a structure in the overworld that was the nether
@@fstots9328 that makes more sense
@@fstots9328 it's actually still in bedrock edition
I remember when villagers were first able to open doors, and I was just in awe.
I remember that one snapshot update where they could open iron doors like they were wooden doors. Mojang patched that out quick. I was one of the people who saw the bug before hearing about it. Full 10 seconds of me just standing there trying to process what I just saw.
no no n o no no
You don't do pistons with grass.
You build a really long dirt tube and wait.
Accurate 👏
YES!
Done that too
Didn’t care about dirt I just stole the diamonds my dad always has from that old, two People take out the same item from a chest glitch
That was the method I always knew, thanks to Etho.
I still use boats very carefully and make extras cause I'm used to the old update for them
same
I only get extras because i keep carelessly go underwater and go on a underwater adventure leaving the boat
Same bro, i remember even running into a squid was enough for you to drown if u didnt have a spare one
Same XD
Same
I remember when they first introduced enchanting and when you put up all the bookcases, you had to use more back then, you would put torches on some of them to get lower enchants. And before i made my first mob grinder, I used to have a obsidian room that was completely dark and I just went in there and killed whatever had spawned lol. I wasn't the brightest kid
'Things only original minecrafters remember': starts with Elytra, which still feels new to me.
Also I still use the wiki for recipes, can't get used to all these new features.
I remember punching sheep to get wool, before sheers. Zombies dropped feathers. Sprinting wasn't there. Hunger wasn't there. Food didn't stack. There were no ravines, villages, mine shafts, endermen, etc... Biomes didn't fade into each other smoothly and didn't make sense. Deserts were next to snowy biomes for example. There has been so much that has been added. I stopped playing a back when the combat system changed. I've played a little since then, but I kind of miss the simplicity of Minecraft before. I like a lot of the stuff that's been added, but I have nostalgia for the early days of Minecraft, when everything was fresh and new. Also, I miss the old Yogscast videos like the Shadow of Israphel series and Seananners playing Minecraft. Those two channels were what got me into Minecraft in the beginning.
Thank you for reminding me of this yogscast was my favorite as a 7 year old
Awwww now you’ve made me nostalgic.
Just play in other version
I FORGOT THAT ZOMBIES DROPPED FEATHERS EEEEE
same
Good old days when herobrine was still a commonplace meme.
Later, Entity 303 appeared and now none of these two are popular anymore.
The Rice Fields shut up your not supposed to have an opinion because of your anime profile pic
Kid with Paralysis I would insult you back but...
I'm an anime pfp
The Rice Fields i guess it’s true weebs don’t know anything about history
Kid with Paralysis
I'm gonna say it, I don't care that you broke your spine
I last played minecraft as a kid, 10-ish years ago. Got back into it recently, and I was shocked at what has been introduced.
Dolphins, villager trades, jungles, the Enderdragon, differently colored beds, 2 additional kinds of trees, and about 100 new blocks.
It's like I'm playing a different game entirely.
Man.. this brings back beta and alpha memories this video... pocket edition was first introduced and i was like 4 and i played on my kindle. I remember the rose, the really green grass, oh and I definitely remember the old hurt sound lol.
moving grass with pistons? pff. i used to build a long dirt string and waited for the grass to spread!
Ya i don't think I've ever seen people push a grass block with pistons. Seems like way more trouble than a dirt line.
Must have been a thing within a small community mumbo was apart of
Jup I did the same. I never knew how the magic of redstone worked.
That’s the right way to do it
I still do it!
I continue to do that to this day if I don't have a silk touch
WTH, not a single mention or comment about the Water Ladder?
we called it an elevator. fuck i thought that was so cool when I made my first one
Dude I totally forgot about that. That was insane when my brother showed me in his world
Water laders are back since the 1.13 update
Just got back into minecraft. Last played 1.7, lost my account to a dead computer, I just got my account back.
Proletor at the end of your video here just brought back some nostalgia for me.
Remember when food wasn't stackable so you needed about 90% of your inventory full of porkchops to heal trough a night of grinding mobs because the hunger bar wasn't a thing and food just straight up healed you?
Who remembers when zombies only dropped feathers and there was no rotten flesh
And foods doesnt stack
I remember when we didn't need food
Yes I remember, Man, Those were the days. Feathers were so easy to gather, until the Loot system was changed.
and stupid five-year-old me decided to attack the mobs with feathers because I thought it would "tickle them"!
Yeah, the good ol' 1.2.5
I remember when Villages got introduced we thought someone knew our server IP because there where House's we didn't build.
Same 😂
Oh yeah when villages were introduced they didn't had villagers... it actually creeped me out when I saw these ghost towns
Hahaha one of my friends started crying because he thought someone would ruin his house on our server :DDD
SAME
Same here..I first thought of that about witches
I know UA-cam is saying this video is a couple years old, but I HATED the old sword spam swinging because almost every time I lose online it was due to either me having a slow CPM with my hands or due to someone probably using an auto clicker. That's how fast my health would evaporate. It also solidified more my reasoning for hating non-co-op multiplayer with anybody but close friends
I love nostalgia
It makes me feel very warm and happy but also I want to cry and go back in time and relive it
