- I bought the 'Ratarossa' a Project Testarossa with its roof cut off and imported it from the US to the UK for a total price of £16k . Today there are 3 Testarossa conversions currently for sale at 1 Million+ .... Could my £16000 car actually be worth a MILLION ? What would it take to make my car worth a million ?

Definitely restore it, get it valued and keep it for your pension. It’s all cosmetic work really. Engine in great shape and it sounds superb and the car has an interesting history. Put a great roof on it and you’ve potentially got a really valuable and unique LHD Ferrari that if you wanted or had to sell would have global interest.
I think the BB would be Scott's pension if he keeps it.

To see this transformed into a concourse testarossa would be epic. I'm all for the nostalgia value for the channel, but a million quid is a million quid. Could fund the F40 too.
Great to see you giving a walk around the rat Scott - LOVED this. I think in terms of cost it would depend largely on how much you do yourself as you certainly have the skills for the majority of the work, based on what you’ve done previously. Certainly plenty of content there for future videos and I think everyone agrees they would love to see this unfold over coming weeks and months! But before you decide - why not have a quiet word with Sothebys and other major auction houses whose specialists would be able to give you a pretty good indication of the market appetite for such a resto, and the likely realisable value? A great deal of value at auction is based upon provenance and ownership - and although as the owner you may not be the Sultan of Brunei, you are a pretty famous dude to have on the log book!
I don’t think it works like that. I have a Testarossa worth about $150k. No way chopping the roof off adds $850,000 of value, or anything like it.
I’d be reaching for the Sawzall now if I thought otherwise.
My guess: you’ll spend $100,000 doing the work and it’ll be worth $125,000 when you’re done.
It could be done for less, but not without cutting corners (e.g. using incorrect leather, body filler, etc.)
I should think that a lot of people, myself included, are waiting for the bbi project to start. Only you really know if you want to mess with the Rat. I think, for sure, there is a recession on its way and car prices are going to be badly affected. Thanks for the content and I'm sure you'll do what makes you happy.

For prices in general...maybe a house correction would send shock waves through other industries..
BB completion would be ideal as this Ratorossa project could be quite costly & time consuming...

Fully agreed. Get the bbi done first. By the time the Testarossa project would complete values will have tanked and you may not even recoup your costs. I do however feel it would make for some amazing content.
Cars are seen as depreciating assets for tax purposes, so they're a good place to dump money. Unlike selling property, shares etc, you don't get clobbered. Not sure how the recession will affect the market though.

You know, if you cleaned up your car that would be epic! There's so much potential that car could be for you . But so many projects you're lucky to come by, that BBi is the best of them all.. Waiting to see what you do with that! Then that F40! You gotta make that a reality. I love your thoughts about that. But thinking of cleaning up the Ratarossa, that's a lot of content that would keep you busy for some years coming!!

i was adding up estimates and got to 70k before you suggested 100k. I would go for it as the Ratarossa now has served its purpose to propel your channel to decent subscriber count and would be a fantastic restoration series and drag even more UA-cam revenue and subscribers. having an asset worth north of 400k might help finance future projects too.

Not having a roof ain't a problem, I had a alfa spider and figured out if you drive fast enough in the rain its just goes straight over your head 😂👍

In my opinion, his Testarossa is very unique on its own , with its own history and back story that it stood on its own as it is.
With that being said , it shudn't be valued like the other fully restored, Pebble Beach condition. The price shud start same as the other Testarossa coz it's MOT ,being driven and well cared for.
Love it as is, so care free, but a restoration and making it look new again would make amazing videos. Would think under 100k as well, to give you a 500k+ gem of a car.
The car is special as is for sure but it would be an EPIC journey for You (& Us) to bring it back to pristine! The car has given so much for You & Your channel! It would be AWESOME to see it the way the lion's share of Us have imagined it! It's a win win! As You said for probably under 100,000. pounds it could be worth well over 500,000. to a Million. From what I have seen, there is nothing an excellent coachbuilder cannot do. Think about it, please, don't leave her like this, she doesn't deserve it.

Also, it really is shocking Ferrari didn't make a spider version, it's such a beautiful car without a roof!
Roof will be the hardest and making sure it drives well too afterwards with the extra weight, but would be amazing to see it pretty again 😮

The Rat Mobile needs some love now, would love to see a nice finished Testarossa Spider (I think many other viewers would too) sell that, the BBi and Stradale and your well on your way to your F40
The most substantially built and most beautiful Spider conversion was done by Lorenz & Rankel. They had to spend tons of money to obtain the TÜV approval. (For example proving torsional rigidity on a hydropulse.) Koenig Specials also relied on Lorenz & Rankel. (The one finished in blu sera that went to the US is quite famous.)
Agreed! The Lorenz & Rankel conversion was near perfection. Ferrari themselfes couldn't have done it better.
Would love to see even a partial restoration of the rat. Would be a great series.

I think it would be a very good idea, especially if you could generate those sorts of funds from the sale. You turn a massive profit and then have cash for whatever (F40) other projects you wish to pursue 🙂

Home Built by Jeff has been on his Alfarrari for two years and only just painted it.. and his channel is growing. I'd watch you build the Ratossa over a couple of years. Make it perfect, love it and rake it places. I'd watch.

The rat has served its principle of never being able to be a factory original Ferrari, though maybe it’s now time to push through this barrier and make it serve a new principle - a testament to the skills you’ve developed as part of its journey to being close to an original as possible as you undertake a restoration? As for costs, I think you’re estimate is not wildly out, a lot of it can be done yourself and it doesn’t seem like there are any major components missing. Go for it!

Full respray and body restoration £15kup to £20k
Interior I would say best part of £15k
Full body clean most likely 30 hours £6k
Additional parts £15k
New removable roof £5k
Could get the engine rebuild £10k depending on condition
New exhaust £5k
Max £85000 for a show room example
Plus the original price so 100k all in and if u get £950k that's £850k profit

Scott you have to do this project. Would be fabulous for the channel and everyone would be glued to it. I think your talent could knock this out for £50-100k easy, sell it and probably retire on the prophet lol, Would be great though to watch this restoration, I think it deserves it 👌

DO IT!!!. You have been given a gift by picking it up so cheap and having the value skyrocket. It will open up so many doors with future projects, it will be youtube gold and awesome to watch the process not to mention fun to do and finally it will give the car another 40 plus years with the new owner should you sell it for a mil.

I am 6:18 into the video and decided to pause it for a moment. You picked up a Testarossa for only 16k and it drives? WOW! ..if it was me, i'd send it to high end painter. Send it for a high end valet. Swap the tyres for 4x brand new types and have the car receive a Ferrari service. Then see what it fetches on Auto Trader :D ..and for the record, massive Out Run fan here. I used to play it in the Arcades all the time, the stand up version, the sit in version, and i managed to complete 3 different routes! ..later i went on to enjoy Out Run 2 (great game) ..for some reason, the original 1986 Arcade game by Sega rocks the most! ..and the best home version is on the Sega Saturn, which i happen to own ^_^ ..back to the video..
The first car magazine I bought had a metallic royal blue Testarossa Spider with cream leather interior souped up by Koenigsegg not Barabus as it's feature. I could not look away. It was truly a thing of beauty.

Hi Scott. This needs to be done! Not for the money side of things but for the absolute pleasure it would bring to the viewers of the channel and I think you should paint and trim it the same as the BB
I'd really like to see this one being the next small project. I don't think it needs a full resto like the BB, but it certainly needs a roof, just so it's more usable! It's got such a user friendly finish right now, I'm sure it would be a cool thing to just run errands in, and park anywhere. And a fuel filler thats not that close to the exhaust... As for painting it, I'm on the fence. I'd quite like to see how low effort you could do it, maybe just wipe the primer off some places, and touch the rest in?

You KNOW that the value is going to continue to increase on any and all of the vintage Ferraris, especially your spyder. While I'm unsure about yours hitting the $1M mark, you can be sure that it wouldn't be that far off if it was a flawless resto. ✌🏻🇺🇸
Firstly whatever you do it is a fabulous asset! I hope you have revisited the insurance policy?! There is more of a leaning towards originality than in previous times plus there are great trimming companies like Auto Trim in Leicester who can work wonders with both the leather and the seat filling which on The Rat looks like it has had a beating! The right body/ paint shop and you know one would spend time adjusting the panels for fit prior to prepping for paint. The roof is a question of seeking different solutions from specialists and selecting the best compromise as they all will have their pros & cons. Whether you do it or not the info gained would be really useful in making a decision now or the future and worth sharing on the channel.

I would check around some auction locations, do a little research. If you have to spend 100k and it will sell for more, thats a given. It would also be a great lift to your channel. Cheers mate, great content.

Definitely a super cool car. Born in 76 means they were a dream car in the 80’s, I used to prefer the Countach but I’m not so sure these days.
Such an iconic car and in spider form so rare, you have to restore it. As it looks quite tidy with a solid low milage engine, it's a no brainer.

The Outrun Music is legendary, and yes...i completed the whole game many a time, I also completed Ridge Racer.

I think you should have a go at restoring it and recreating the car that made you fall in love with the Testarossa Spider in the first place and if you can make the car so that it’s worth £1,000,000 then that’s only a massive bonus.
