- Опубліковано 29 лип 2018
- We check in with Steve Neisen of eFX Collectibles to see what's up with his AT-ST studio scale model replica, as well as check out a massive Star Destroyer prototype he's put together as a made-to-order collectible. We learn how the surface details of the Star Destroyer were enhanced by the modelmaker who worked on the original filming miniature!

Thanks for watching!
$10,000?! We can almost buy our own ship for that. We don't have to sit here and listen to this.
Purefoldnz lmao
literally laughing my ass off... well, close enough
Final replica us 16k
You bet I could I’m not such a bad pilot myself.
But who's gonna build it, kid? You?
There are a lot of gaps between panels, specifically the front of the bridge on the sides. That's usually highly unacceptable?
notbuster126 agreed.. It looks like they rushed to get it ready for the con
It's an eye sore def for 10k lol
Yep, looks pretty poor. If they'd just taken the 3D computer model and handed the job to an experienced injection molding company to break it down and use their expertise to account for shrinkage and warping, I'm sure they could have produced a large die cast kit of far better quality that people could assemble themselves for far less than $10k.
Okay so it wasn’t just me 😂 I get high quality models take a lot of time and skill to make, but for 10k you could at least make sure there aren’t gaps 😬
That warped bridge face stood out to me so bad. Lol
If I'm gonna spend $16,000 I want this thing to look so much better, more detail and FULL of Fiber Optics and the 4 backup engines should also be lit up as well. Really disappointing that a 1/2700 scale full of fiber optics and built by hobbyists looks far superior to this.
I've really gotten into the bandai model kits. The sculpts are on point and they always look drop dead gorgeous with some light weathering!
Jaiden Wardle The 1/72 ANH X-Wing is on point.
Have you gotten bandai's 1/5000 ISD yet?
@@kyleruiz7167
I do, and let me tell you at only a foot long, the detail on that model is remarkable
Hah! Just watched Plasmo build of a Star Destroyer set with fiber optics a couple of hours ago. They travel in large numbers it seems like.
Exactly what I was thinking! He did a wonderful job on his one, too!!!
What the hell 10k lol... it has not even been put together properly ... massive gaps everywhere. Good video but that was a joke.
Agree. Big uneven gaps sloppily made.
1) It's a prototype. 2) The original models have gaps and imperfections. There are people who want a replica of the studio model, not an idealized or sanitized item. Another good example would be the OT helmets. The Stormtroopers and Vader's helmets all had asymmetrical features because they were first sculpted from clay and cast. Every time a company puts out a version where they fix this it looks wrong.
That's fair enough, but for >> Ten THOUSAND dollars
But is it an imperfection if the studio model looked exactly like that
Darth Cat if you're hung up on the imperfections you'll real freak when they copy the model builder signatures that are hidden around the ship. I already spotted a few in this video
damn, that looks insane.
He should make the crude AT ST from Empire.
Can’t imagine the amount of time it took people to create that model...
Wow so great I'd like to hang out with these guys and listen to stuff like this all day
The Chicken walker is really cool and im considering buying one for my future game room. Now the price of the star destroyer wow. I would have thought a price take of 2,000 USD but not 10,000 that is really out there.
Cool as always.
10k? It has some horrendous panel gaps.
No thanks
From a distance it looks fantastic but up close it looks badly fitted with lots of panel gaps. They may be faced with customer complaints of the price is 10k
That at-st looks terrific
simply insane!!! the maker seems like such a likable dude
althought it looks great.....the price!!!!!! i bought the Revell/Zvezda Star Destroyer kit for £60, i spent £50 on 3d printed parts to make it the Devastator, maybe £30 on paint and £10 on some LEDS, and also had the fun of building, painting and lighting it myself, also its nearly 2 foot long so you are getting a nice big Star Destroyer
10k. Better come signed by several of the actors plus lucas.
I'd consider paying the $10k, provided that I got to keep the delivery van too.
title10 that is a pretty steep price tag I don't know what I would pay..
I bet somebody buys one though
it better fly....lol
You guys just cant phathom the work that goes into these.
ruskodisco bullsheet I'm a modeler you can do that with wood and make it look as good!
That'd be cool to see a hyper detailed AT-TE and Venator models similar to what was seen in this video.
Saw these in-person. just wow
you content recently inspired me. I am currently 3d printing parts for a model rocket. I am sanding and assembling them tomorrow and find a way to paint them in the next day. My goal is to film a film using SFX miniatures and some VFX by the end of the summer holidays.
Would be great to see Adam build a star destroyer model
HOLY GAPS BATMAN! "Look at the detail" "Gaaaap! GAAAAAAAAP! GAPPY GAPPY GAPPY GAAAAAP!!!!"
I am glad you made more shots to models, super !!!
That star destroyer looks awful. Huge gaping holes between subassemblies and the port shield generator massively on the wonk. I'd be upset if I paid $200 for this let alone 10k
Dean Sturgess My Zvezda kit is looking better than this.
It isn't even 10k lmao it's for sale on the website for 16k.......
That thing is huge! I want one!
nice star wars models
Awesome video. EFX is up to good things.
Is there a better designed space battleships than the star destroyers? The arrow shape is just perfect for an aggressive force.
Time to get very annoying. It does have a good design for destroying things, but it is a very blunt weapon that isn't very versatile and has design flaws that were exploited to go great effect by it's opponents. The Imperial 1 class Star Destroyers, Imperial 2 the Executor class Star Dreadnoughts, the Victory class Star Destroyers and many more featured a wedge shaped design that is very good at directing fire at one target and makes it effective at Base Delta Zero (the name given to the tactic of destroying a world by "glassing" it's surface. The wedge shape is also featured in the Acclimator class and Venetor class but the prominent problem for most Star Destroyers/Dreadnoughts is that they lack point defense cannons, which are effective at combating starfighters, leaving their only defense them to be Tie class fighters, which are laughably weak compared to what could be found elsewhere, including, to an extent, recently phased out models. This meant they were extremely poor at combating the Rebel Alliance, their main foes, who focused on mobility and small ships, such as starfighters. Technically, the only battleships of the Star Destroyer line are the Allegiance or maybe the Bellator class Star Destroyers, as most of them, are well, Destroyers. Only the Victory 2 is good at the role due to its better speed than everything else. A better designed vessel, such as the MC80 Home One (which, admittedly, is a cruiser) was very flexible, being able to transport 120 starfighters, compared to the Imperial class' 72, being more modular, having better shields (admittedly it is of Mon Calamari design so that is to be expected), having a faster hyperdrive. You can see why it would be chosen as the flagship of Admiral Ackbar, whilst Grand Admiral Thrawn, the most respected, talented and feared tactical genius of the Empire despised the fleet composition and ships of the Empire due to their lack of versatility.
Beautiful.
Beautiful, I love it
I know it's a 'duuuur' moment but I never realized how closely they based the design on aircraft carriers, once you see it in this scale it becomes obvious but in the movies you're just absorbed in the shear size and power of these things so it doesn't really click
I really want one in this size ❤❤❤
“At a large park on display” wink wink
"Disney never paid us, so we can't pay you." -Steve Neisen
That's the story many artists were told that designed and built those models for that project after they handed over their months of work to Steve and EFX.
Only specific people in his inner circle were compensated. At least one or two artists that posted about it got their accounts on the Replica Prop Forum banned
after sharing how they got screwed.
I would love to have just the bottom of the Star Destroyer to mount to my ceiling.
that would be only 5,000.00
thats really cool
Wow nice
What ever happened to the at-st kit .
wow,,Beautiful!!
Insulting price. Somebody upload a 3D scan or details model and let’s just 3D print it.
10k assembled. Why can't I buy an unassembled model kit? Only been waiting my whole life for one this size
Way cool, Steve!
Everyone complaining about the price and pointing out panel gaps, etc. needs to realize that those gaps and other "inaccuracies" are deliberately put there. This is the replica of a prop, not a replica of the fantasy. Granted, if it were to be a true replica, it should be blank on the starboard side, but listening to the story, the fact that they got the original designer of the ship to "complete" the model makes it a special detail. And if you think $10-20K is expensive for a prop, take a look at the prices REAL props from the movie are bringing. R2D2 went for almost $3 million dollars in 2017.
you cant compare replica collectibles to real props, the latter has historical value that cant be replicated. I fully understand why they are charging 10k, researching and finding parts to make a replica of this scale take a lot of time and effort, and they are hand made in small amounts. However, you can get very close to this level with a model for a fraction of the price, the bandai model is good, the zvezda/revell one is big and very customizable with 3d printed parts, or if you can find one an Anigrand model will get very close to this one without the gaps and for around $500. Also, this eFX one appears not to have fiber optic lighting, like the real prop DID, and for 10k its something id expect.
This eFX model is not a model, its a collectible for collectors who can afford this sort of thing, and a good chunk of this channels viewers are not rich collectors, hence they all complain.
$10,000 is too much when you have companies like deagostini and eaglemoss making complete studio replicas for a 10th of that.
And bandai with it's new 1/5000 ISD
Hi ....started to follow your channel very recently. Is this 3D printed? Detailing on this model is super great.
Moss on the feet is too much IMO. Nicer without.
whoaitstiger i thought that too
a moving atst gathers no moss
isn't that how the saying goes?!
I walking chicken gathers no Mos Eisley...
_I'll_ _see myself_ _out._
whoaitstiger don't forget your coat!!
I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters anyway.
whoaitstiger you can waste time with your friends when your chores are done
those are beautiful
The bridge does not look right at all. There is a lot of details that dont look right but the bridge really stood out.
The most that SD is worth is around 2.5k. if totally lighted with the right sized holes, 3k.
Awesome video my friend😊😊🙌😊🙋.Likeeeee
I feel like everyone has that target Star Wars shirt that Steve is wearing. (I even have one)
Love It!!
Norm is just so tempted to throw it
5 weeks of skilled artist, made to order, officially licensed, yeah 10k seems about right
It isn't even 10k lmao it's for sale on the website for 16k.......
If it looks like that and they are the company that designed/built the model, then for 10K, it better look immaculate.
I've seen models done by amateur builders that are better put together than that and by Experts who wouldn't let something that looked that bad out of their shop. I hate to say it, but the destroyer looks like the guys at eFX sat around with a case of beer and a bag of Cheetos and threw it together while watching A New Hope the night before the Comic-Con...
Love these super sized model replica's, especially the Star Destroyer, but the price is a bit much.
Wow I love this Star Destroyer.
You can get a lot of these models, little bit smaller versions, for under $100
is it me or does it lack detail kitbash parts seems the parts are larger too?
EFX puts out good replicas. However, another Co. needs to step up to the plate and replicate Movie props to that uber level which EFX clearly cant attain. A perfect example would be the Perfect Grade Bandai Falcon. That model is THE absolute best when it comes to hard core accuracy and should be the bench mark for other manufacturer to achieve.
You need to check out PLASMO plastic models he's a genius the Picasso of model making!!!👍👍👍
waiting for the Bandai kit
Mad Cow Rebel probably going to be years still
Still will be a shorter wait than most of efx past releases XD
The Lego UCS coming out is about the same size and detail less than $800.
4-5 weeks? Sixteen thousand dollars? 😂
Why do people dislike this?
Because Norm.
Are you really wondering, or is it just a pandering comment? People like or dislike videos because people have different opinions.
efx charging $10,000 for a model
You can not control what other people do in life. Some will dislike things just because they can.
Seriously the Randy Cooper star destroyer is a far better buy. Over 40 inches and $700. Way better deal.
6:10 norm: Yaas Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas
Can't be the Devastator. The sensor array on top of the bridge is wrong, it should be laying down.
Source: Building the Zvezda 2ft long kit.
I love it
model replica, contrary to the actual real planet sized star destroyer
Norman Chan
hey the guy at the end is from mythbusters but they stopped the show :O
i want all of these in my room
Ewok for scale, beats banana for scale any day!
I open the video, I see Norm, I close the tab.
Ironically, Norm is anything but normal.
Factalsponge spoiled me, now I can't accept any ISD without the detail of his redux model.
What about bandai's 1/5000 ISD
10 thousand dollars? Umm.. Time to get a new hobby mate this is getting ridiculous
8 ft ? Makes me think of the Nostromo.
Unless you have done something of immense philanthropic value in your life, if you spend 10,000 on a model star destroyer, you are my enemy.
I have an exclusive darth vader helmet and I just finished his light Saber to
Way too many gaps between panels and too monochromatic for $10K.
How much will the star destroyer cost and at at
james boling 10 large.
But what about a kit :)
That handshake at the end was too close above the model...
GO BIRBS
Could u make the axe from God of war in your one day builds
I would never pay $10,000 for a toy model...no way I can buy so much with 10 grand
Those LEDs will last HUNDREDS of hours...?
I don't think they make LEDs that bad.
Wow.. Price is now $16 thousand
Super Dark power
I'd but the Avenger.
I know for the prop the price is reasonable but I can't afford it :(
That destroyer is crazy awesome. I would like one in drone form that can shoot lazeeeer beams for yard defense of the evil squirrels!
If I only had $10k for a toy.... Need a new job.
Make my own custom ship for that much
Its funny this model is probably better than the one used in the movie. Crazy to think a small group of ppl could get together and make a movie NOW better than the original then. Hint hint nudge nudge....
too many zeros.should be ONE THOUSAND credits!
For 10Gs, I expect PERFECTION! Sadly this is not it. Gaps, GaPs!, G A P S ! ! Everywhere. With Todays Technology, and 3D Printers, you can get this level of Detail, NO GAPS and built to this size for well under 10Gs.
Lol
for a 10k model so many gaps specially the ones between the superstructure and hull is unacceptable.
i can see it costing them 10k to design and make, but its not a good model for that price, for like $300 you could get a revell (or zvezda) 1/2700 star destroyer and get some 3d printed parts off shapeways and youd have a pretty detailed model.
Or if your able to find one (they are extremely rare) you could try and get your hands on one of those 1/2256 Anigrand ones, i know of one thats for sale and its like $600, but thats from a cast of an original movie prop, so its really a bargain.
