  • Theodore Roosevelt remains one of America's most prolific and well-known outdoorsmen. His appreciation for adventure, conservation, and hunting knew no bounds - a legacy he passed to his son Kermit, who accompanied his father on numerous hunts.
    This Hawken rifle and Parker Brothers shotgun belonged to father and son, and together tell an intimate story of a period in the Roosevelt family.

    Think if we had men like these today.

      Men like these mentioned here would most likely be serving time in prison these days. They were very independent folks and many had attitudes on society.

    Fantastic!! What extraordinary and historic guns these are. The Kit Carson-Theodore Roosevelt connection on the Hawken is so unique. Quite a priceless piece :)

    Outstanding presentation. Concise history lesson of the remarkable adventures of historic father and son. African Game Trails, Adventures of a Western Hunter (?) River of Doubt by Candace Millard all excellent reads.

      Apologies. My reference to Adventures of a Western Hunter is incorrect. The actual title of the book by Theodore Roosevelt, a collection of stories from his time in the Dakota Territory, is Hunting Trips of a Ranchman (1885) and The Wilderness Hunter (1893).

      @BlackPowderHistorian 2 місяці тому +6

      It allows you to use a bullet starter that fits over the muzzle.

    Emphasizing Kermit’s depression drinking, and death and then promoting the sale of his flasks is in very poor taste.

    • @darkhart9987
      @darkhart9987 2 місяці тому

      Kermit didn’t kill himself. He was an embarrassment to FDR and becoming a liability. Certain members of FBI and the army were tasked with eliminating this embarrassment which was seen as a national security threat.
