I bought my Beauty rest black hybrid in 2018 and it has become lumpy and uncomfortable. It also seems like the memory foam has already began to degrade. Super comfy for the first year but like I said has now become extremely uncomfortable and I am surprised to see its degradation after only a two years. There is a lump directly in the middle of the bed that will not go away. As far as the cooling technology I never noticed a difference from my previous bed which was a straight up pillow top spring bed. Very dissatisfied. Just ordered a Layla hybrid that comes with a 10yr warranty bc I don't trust mattresses anymore lol
Hi J. -- we hear you. Your BR Black SHOULD have a warranty as well -- check the "law label" that comes attached to the bed. There should be some kind of warranty code on there that should allow you to call the company and understand if the problems you are having are covered under the warranty. In the meantime, we hope you really enjoy the Layla Hybrid!
I really appreciate the technical nature of these reviews. I'll try to purchase my new bed from your site. Are there any other lines outside of Sealy's that have denser/stiffer coils through the center of the bed. Being a bigger guy, I like coils but I'd like them to be stronger under the hips than vs my shoulders since I'm a side sleeper. My hips always sink more than I'd like even though I prefer that memory foam feel.
Hi. Thanks for the note. Yes, there are quite a few mattresses that are now designed for heavier sleepers, and offer stronger coils, either for the entire mattress or in certain sections of it. Here are a few that we've reviewed. Of these three, the Saatva has more memory-foam feel than the others: The WinkBed Plus has some of the heaviest coils we've seen in a mattress, with the strongest coils in the middle third of the bed: www.goodbed.com/reviews/winkbed-plus-mattress-review/ Helix Plus - this one is a little softer and we thought it would be good for couples of different sizes: www.goodbed.com/reviews/helix-nightfall-mattress-review/ Saatva HD - also uses heavier gauge coils: www.goodbed.com/reviews/saatva-HD-mattress-review/ Hope that's helpful!
I'm trying to decide between a Sealy Silver Chill Plush and the Beautyrest Black Hybrid X class plush. Big price difference, but wondering what's best for a side sleeper with back issues?
Where I live, Simmons mattresses are sold for around $8-10k. That’s about 2-4x more expensive than a Tempur. Is the Simmons brand considered more Premium?
Hi there -- Many American mattress brands are used outside of the USA as well. In the vast majority of cases, the brand names (and sometimes the product designs) are licensed to overseas manufacturers, who really control how those products are made and sold in their country. This means that in some cases, the products sold in other countries can share little more than a logo with their counterparts in the USA. Likewise, even market positioning (eg, higher end vs lower end), can differ substantially between the USA and other countries. As such, in evaluating the reputation of a given brand, I would focus entirely on what their reputation is in your home country, because their reputation in the USA may bear little to no relevance to the products you will get in your country. I hope that's helpful.
Hi Gregory -- Thanks for your question. Absolutely, memory foam is an extremely temperature sensitive material, so it can feel significantly firmer when it is cold than when it is warm. Even a 5 degree difference in room temperature can result in a noticeable difference in feel. That said, from a spinal alignment standpoint, the sinkage and conformance that you experience on any given memory foam should be relatively consistent across any reasonable range of room temperatures. This is because body temperature has much less variability than room temperature, so the material that is directly under your body will compress by roughly the same amount no matter what the room temperature is. I hope that's helpful.
This Beautyrest Black mattress is the one brand that I found that can compete with TempurPedic but even so I am still going with a TempurPedic Luxadapt firm.
Hi. Thanks for the comment -- best of luck with your LuxeAdapt mattress. The BR Black Hybrid is quite different from the LuxeAdapt. For one, it has a pocketed coil support unit, while the LuxeAdapt is an all-foam mattress. That alone makes them apples-and-oranges. The Beautyrest, for example, will have a lot more bounce than the Tempur-pedic. Sleep well on your new bed!
We recently purchased a Beautyrest Black Hybrid mattress from Mattress Firm but the model is called Alcove Plush. What’s the difference between that one and the ones you discussed in this video?
Hi Becky. It's nearly impossible to say. That's because Mattress Firm contracts with Beautyrest to create "exclusives" for their stores that don't exactly correspond to any of the Beautyrest models available elsewhere. The difference could be as small as the design of the cover, or could be more extensive, like different foams or coil units than used in other Beautyrest Black Hybrid models. We call this the "name game" and stores do it so you can't compare prices apples to apples. You can find a detailed breakdown of the universally available Beautyrest Black models here: www.goodbed.com/reviews/beautyrest-black-hybrid-mattress-preview/ You will likely see some of the same materials used in your Alcove Plush, but they may or may not be exactly the same. Looking at the info available on the Mattress Firm website, I see the coil unit is an older 850 coil unit rather than the newer T3 coil unit used in the widely available versions. Hope that helps!
GoodBed thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Mattress shopping is a stressful process for me. Your mattress reviews, by far, are the best on You Tube. I’ve been sleeping on this mattress for a couple months and I’m still unsure if it’s the right mattress for me. I wake up with some should pain. Could you tell me if it usually takes time for the memory form top layer to “break in”? I went back to mattress firm and the floor model so soooo much softer than my mattress at home. I will check out the link you sent. Again, thank you for your time and knowledge!!!
HI again Becky. Hm... if you've given it a couple of months and still aren't getting the best pressure relief, then you might need something different. I have no idea how old the floor model was, but if it's old, it might be constructed of either slightly different materials, or has been laid on by a lot of people. While comfort layers certainly soften up over time, it will take more than two months for a good quality mattress. One thing you might try is adding an inexpensive memory foam or latex mattress topper, since it sounds like you might not need that much more cushioning. You can certainly talk to the store to see if they can offer a solution, but if not, a two-inch mattress topper won't cost much, and might give you that little 'extra' pressure relief.
To our knowledge, no they do not. Fiberglass fire barriers are much more common on all foam or stretch knit hybrid designs, and Beautyrest tends not to make those styles of mattresses. Hope that helps!
Hi Ray. Sorry to hear this. However, making a firm mattress softer is much easier than making a soft mattress more firm. I'd suggest trying a latex or memory foam topper of maybe 2" or 3". This should help give you more softness and pressure relief.
Hi Stuart -- Thanks for your kind words. Very glad it was helpful for you! RE: the watch, here's the one Mike is wearing: amzn.to/3z0xeWh I hope that's helpful.
Thanks! We really try our best to show you how the bed moves and flexes under weight so you can get an idea how well it will suit your needs. Thanks for the comment!
Hi -- The Nadia is a couple of generations back in the Black line, and was probably mainly sold in 2016-2017, but you can still find it out there in outlet stores here and there.
They are apples to oranges, using different comfort materials. The BR Black Hybrid is going to have a very traditional feel while the Purple Hybrid Premier has a honeycomb-gel comfort layer. Here is our video on the Purple Hybrid (formerly the Purple 4): ua-cam.com/video/vijvjeU9_Sw/v-deo.html
We Just purchased the Jennings Black hybrid from Mattress Firm today but now I'm worried. We got the plush but I'm worried it's going to wear out quickly. My husband and I are both tall above average weight. I have hip and lower back issues. Would a traditional spring mattress be better for us? We also got the nice adjustable base.
Hi Krista. We generally recommend hybrid mattresses for couples with a heavier-than-average combined weight. 'Traditional' spring mattresses of the past do not generally represent the best quality these days. A quality hybrid mattress with good quality comfort materials is typically what we steer people too. The "plush" however, might be a concern if you are worried about body impressions. One idea is to purchase a firmer mattress, then add a topper to make it as 'squishy' as you like on top. That way, when the topper becomes worn out or not as comfortable or pressure-relieving, it's inexpensive to replace compared to a new mattress. Just some food for thought.
Hi Mike. It's a great question, but impossible to answer. Mattress Firm contracts with Beautyrest and other manufacturers to create "exclusive" models with different names and materials so that buyer's can't easily compare at other stores. And sometimes that model names are specific to region too. Unfortunately, we don't have access to all the different model names Mattress Firm is using at its various locations. The best way to tell is by price, and by the height of the bed -- generally taller beds are considered higher end.
Is the "Beautyrest Black Hybrid X Class Medium" that came out in 2019 the only model out there? Were there any previous models with the exact name or a model that came out this year with the exact same name? Also, do you recommend this bed for a side sleeper that is 6 ft 2 in and weighs 260 lbs.
Hi. The "X-Class" designation was new for that series, and to the best of my knowledge, there's only been one version so far of the X-Class Medium. Be aware that Beautyrest frequently does 'store exclusives' for various retailers, so it's entirely possible there could be a similar name out there with maybe a different cover, or slightly different materials, that's sold at just one store chain. In our quick look at it, we found it to be a true medium, with quite a bit of that 'melting' memory feel. There's a full 5" of comfort materials on top of the coils. For a person of your size, as a side sleeper, it should provide good pressure relief if you like a softer feel. If you prefer a firmer feel, you might consider the X-Class Firm, which includes some latex as well as memory foam. Hope that helps!
Hi Carol. Do you mean that a foam layer under the cover is folded over? That's a tough one since their isn't a way to open the cover. If it arrived that way, I'd call that a defect that would be covered under your warranty. In that case, contact your retailer. Otherwise, the only thing I could think of would be to try to manipulate it THROUGH the cover with your hands -- try to ease it back into place.
We hear you! Unfortunately, pocketed coils aren't built in the same fashion as older tied coils, and this can mean that they're difficult to move. Still, it's that same flexibility that makes pocketed coils comfortable, so hopefully it's worth it in the end!
@@goodbed I was going to purchase a Beutyrest Black Hybrid Plus for $1000 from mattress liquidation place. Is this deal a good thing or bad? I'm afraid of it maybe being a knockoff or something might be wrong with the mattress. Also plus I'm assuming means it's a nicer mattress.
