ROAD TRAINS - Living the Dream

  • The trip from Adelaide in South Australia to Darwin in the Northern Territory can see the country scenery change several times in a very short period of time. It will change from vast open flat desert plains to wooded scrub to undulating hills within a four or five hour period. With such changes to the landscape, it is very hard to get bored with our weekly trip in a Road Train.
In this video I have put together some of the things that we see on a weekly basis. The sunrises and sunset are sometimes magical to look at while the dark night skies make the stars shine so bright that it makes you want to reach out and touch them. Hope you enjoy what we see every week.
NOTE: AT 0:40 into the video there is an item on the ground to the left of me . It was a maker used for when I walked up to the camera in the first take, I forgot to pick it up before the second take.
Music in the video is available form EPIDEMIC SOUND
    www.epidemicsound.com
    Anew - Hara Noda
Best For You - Instrumental Version
    Coyoty Wedding - Martin Klem
Lines In The Sand - Victor Lundberg
For Some Time - Daniel Gunnarsson

Thank you Mick and Sally, Mick you make Great videos, and Australia is huge, in your videos you sure know how to present lots of it, but you had to move on, your caravan videos are Great too, times coming for me to, I won't be able to watch much of any ones soon, slowing down lots, and things are getting harder, don't know what's coming, but thank you again very very much for your videos. Mick

I really enjoyed my trip to Townsville via 3 Ways a few years ago. The thing that got me the most was the termite mounds that they dress up. Unbeatable scenery especially when there are some cracking storms. The best way to see them is to be going up there all the time or you happen to be lucky. And then a couple of weeks later the desert blooms. Keep the video coming mate!

Oh you blokes have got it easy, back in my day it was dirt from Pt Augusta to Kulgera and then onto the old WW2 (nearly) single track road from Alice Springs to Darwin - and that cambered heavily to both sides. 😆 Kingoonya was superseded by Marla Bore which back then was nothing but a few demountables. When it rained heavy the rush was to make the Pimba jump-up and clear the tablelands before they became a quagmire. If you happened to get stuck, most trucks carried a 'stiff bar' (metal bar with eyelets each end to connect to ring feeder) which would be used to connect to other trucks (trains) and then a, push me, pull you, system was utilised to get across and out of the bog.
    Memories huh? 😆
God bless you and stay safe out there 🇦🇺👍

Because we are a 2-Up Team, I would prefer the Mack over the Kenworth only because it is much more quieter inside the cab. The Kenworth has more room in the bunk plus a few more creature comforts than what the Mack has. At the end of the day one is as good as the other.

Hi Mick, great video’s. I have been fascinated by the trucking world of late - particularly in light of these zero emission trucks that seem to be on the horizon, but I have a lot of questions. Can I please ask a bunch of these questions about the economics of it all today with diesel? Like I believe your GCM limit is 115.5t - but what is it typically for your trips? How often do you have to refuel and how much do you refuel (I.e. does your load play a factor in how much fuel you put in ?). Cheers Rob from Perth.

    • @justcruisinwithmicksally837
      @justcruisinwithmicksally837  2 роки тому

Rob, the total GCM will determine the amount of fuel we use. Our total GCM can be as high as 125.5t although most of our loads for our run would come in around 80-90t. We refuel at Alice Springs, Darwin, Alice Springs and then Adelaide when we arrive back there. Each fuel fill is around 1,100 -1,200 litres per fill. Hope this is of some help to you.

I noticed a huge increase in tourist camper vans etc from 18 months ago obviously due to external border closures. Have you noticed more traffic?.

I was just wondering about the equipment you use. I spent 20 years driving truck in the US and Canada, mostly 350+ hp motors with 9 or 10 sp transmissions, mostly with 53' trailers, occasionally with dual 28'6" trailers or even a 57' single. how long are those triples? 40'? 42'? Do you have extra air tanks to handle all those extra axles?

The total length of our triple Road Trains is 53.5 metres long. The trucks are rated to tow 3 trailers which means they are fitted up with the required air supply to allow them to do their job as expected.
