That Mitford is gorgeous! If it does not earn pride of place on your shelves, feel free to stick it in my stack and tell me when to pick it up! Back in the day, I studied Tragic Era in a class on the historiography of Reconstruction. Oh gracious... TW's Notebooks sounds much more like a "Steve Book" than the Tragic Bowers--thank goodness.
That Steve brandished that letters collection for five minutes without referring to "ten-pack-a-day nicotine addict and occasional playwright Tennessee Williams" is a testament to how mesmeric and mysterious the Brattle's machinations truly are.
The BR Stateham book sounded interesting, so added that one to my wishlist and then saw that the author also did two Ancient Rome murder mystery books, and the first one is free at the moment, so I thought I'd let you know in case you enjoy the one you picked up.
Hallo Steve, have you already used the big kindle scribe? Thats the one which was sent to you couple weeks ago. If yes I’m curious how you liked the seize of the screen, weight and battery life.
I have got to head into Boston and check out the Brattle for a second time. The first time I went my daughter was in Beth Israel so I couldn't enjoy it as much. Maybe I'll have to just come in from the Central Mass area and park in alewife and make it a reality!
Seriously? You've never ever cast around for a bookmark, and ended up making do with a random receipt? Of course you haven't. You finish most books in a single sitting! 😄
I just finished Nancy Mitford’s biography of Madame de Pompadour. It was a bit heavy on the politics and had some dry sections… but ok. Hope you enjoy your big Mitford!
Staring at God sounds like it will be fascinating. It would go very well with World War November. I will have to look for it. Thanks for sharing Steve.
That Cavalcade of Collier's is digitized and available on the Internet Archive! IA is doing their best to digitize everything.
Yes, it's great for reading old magazines, books etc which I'll never come across normally.

Heroic restraint with those Colliers magazines! It worked out well for you, though. 😄

There is a film with Sen.Beveridge and Tolstoy. He could have gotten Tolstoy's long essay at end of War and Peace removed!

No Theodore Roosevelt writing in the Colliers cavalcade?
