  • A Death World, some very hungry Aliens, and some very smelly Space Marines. Dave hopes to continue his roll of nonsense and goes back to his green nurgley roots with the Death Guard in today's Warhammer 40,000 10th edition battle report led up by the Mortarian man himself, up against Dan and the Tyranids. 2000 points of Screamer Killers, Norn Emissaries, Hive Tyrants, what's not to love.
    It's a battle of attrition versus anger here, Dan's trying a strategy for maybe the first time ever. Is it going to work? Well.... does it ever. Let's see if battleshock can make a big difference in this game, and if he can pull off a big win for the first time in a while, while Dave tries to spread Nurgle's Contagion with a lot of plague burst crawlers and Mortarian himself giving off a horrendous buff aura.
    Lastly, as ever, do chuck us a comment if you like what you see, hit us up with a subscribe here / @weirdwolfgames . if you REALLY like what you see and want to be the first to know when all the good stuff drops. Thanks all!

    Love the battle report! Seems like it was a lot of fun. Death Guard always feel like a tough matchup for Tyranids. The auras are all brutal against Tyranids, even the toughness debuff is incredible for shifting a lot of break points.
    For advice on future games:
    The Death Guard list seems very meta compared to the Tyranid one. Mortarion protecting triple PBCs and rhinos for all the plague marines means that Tyranids will already struggle to kill anything meaningful. Even running nurglings for secondaries gives them an edge compared to the nid list not running a biovore. Additionally there's a lot in the tyranid list that unfortunately just does very little damage. The carnifexes without OOE, the norn, the psychophage, and the ranged warrior squad are a lot of points of the army that will often bounce off even the light tanks.
    - Norns only get one singular purpose option, EITHER the re-rolls or the objective boost. I honestly think the best thing to do is just park them on an objective, ideally out of LOS of any anti-armor guns. They can threaten a single squad of Plague Marines or Terminators that march up on them, but not much else.
    - As much as I hate to recommend "just run a meta list" I do think that Maleceptors and Exocrines are especially good against Death Guard. They can both do damage while outside of the aura and the Maleceptor's invuln means the -1AP debuff is a less appealing choice for DG. Just in general running the heavy-hitting guns (Zoanthropes, Exocrine, Maleceptors, Tyrannofex), keeping them outside the aura, and destroying the rhinos ASAP to blast apart the plague marines is a solid gameplan. If they lose even a single plague marine squad early it suddenly becomes a lot harder to keep up with nids on score.
    - Biovores and a couple rippers are great for scoring secondaries, leaving a lot of points for the rest of your army to be dedicated to damage. Just don't draw Purge the Foe as the mission lol.
    - Reserves/Strategic Reserves are really powerful. Forcing DG to screen out their backline is a really big ask for them sometimes, whereas Tyranids have a much easier time screening out their deployment zone. You can also keep more fragile shooting/scoring pieces safe from the triple indirect fire until you need them.
    - I'm not a fan of Synaptic Nexus TBH. I think there is some play with it but I struggle to justify not just using Invasion Fleet instead.
    - If you want to run Carnifexes, run two attached to OOE, ideally with double deathspitters. Their damage goes way up with OOE providing reroll hits, and they clear screens while protecting OOE. If a single carnifex survives when they arrive then OOE can really mess up even a PBC.

      Dude this is gold dust, Thankyou so much for taking the time! I’ll pass these onto Dan who can go into intense training for his next bout. Cheers for watching.

      @@WeirdWolfGames No problem! Hopefully the next balance update will be kind to nids, because the models Dan brought are legit beautifully painted and it pains me to have advice where a lot of it boils down to "well just ditch a lot of those and run other stuff". I'm definitely felt a bit of pain in that department just got back into the hobby last year after having not played since 4th/5th edition and just having a lot of stuff that is not particularly meta.

    • @WeirdWolfGames
      @WeirdWolfGames  2 місяці тому +1

      I mean we’re not really all about the meta on the channel, most of the time we genuinely just want to play with what we like! Just feels with tyranids this puts you in such a bad spot at the moment. Things can only get better!

    Regarding the extra attack melee thing. How would that work on Carnifexes then? Cause you can equipp them with Crushing claws and Scything talons in each of their weapon slots?

    • @WeirdWolfGames
      @WeirdWolfGames  2 місяці тому +2

      I think, sadly, unless a weapon profile says ‘extra attacks’, you can only pick one of its melee weapons to use in the fight phase, so best to run a mixed melee and shooty carnifex profile. Seems weird! We learnt it the other day, bit of a shame.

    • @apollo-3744

      Some weapons have the "extra attacks" keyword. If the weapon has that keyword, it means you can attack with it in addition to another weapon. The Carnifexes extra scything talons option has that keyword, meaning it attacks with the crushing claws and the talons.

    • @Dewoy1
      @Dewoy1 2 місяці тому

      @@apollo-3744 Yeah very much so. A member from my club said you can mix mash both AND even get claws and teeths. But i found that a bit fishy. Your explenation makes more sense. I just can´t seem pick any of the range weapons. They seem both like the definition of "Meh".

      Hey mate so the one brick has the melee options, 3 heavies, 2 bubotic, 3 plasma, 2 blight launchers and a Spewer as the champion carries plasma and a heavy
      The other unit is just 3 plasma, 3 heavies, 1 blight launcher and the rest have bolters. Again the champion has the plasma heavy combo.
      I unfortunately bought a lot of second hand plague marines during 9th with bolters which are now less than ideal. And it's pretty much what I always play as it's the best I have I just find it so frustrating have so many sperate profiles but I'll make sure to call it all out in the future!

    • @jacobs2725
      @jacobs2725 3 місяці тому

      @tarisma_40k_rules_forgetter all good. I'm actually working on my bricks myself and there are way too many for me to keep track of honestly. My secondhand pile has 6 with bolters so I'm leaning towards building the 14 I have without them or using magnets

      I'd just go special weapon conversions if you can. As GW tired to streamline the game I think we won't see point costed weapons back

    What does CP and VP stand for?

    • @WeirdWolfGames
      @WeirdWolfGames  Місяць тому +1

      Command points and victory points! We’re scoring VP at the start and end of each round and the player with the most by the end wins. Command points allow you to do cool extra things or reroll and you get 1 or 2 a turn.
