- Farsight is back baby! ANOTHER new codex drop this week, with the Tau finally seeing some play after a long old wait, and Will's been VERY excited to try out a new detatchment, and bring some Kroot to the table for the first time!
A Mont'Ka Tau Force with around 500 points of Kroot Auxiliaries line up, double breacher squads with Devilfishes, 2 new crisis suit squads with Farsight and an Enforcer Commander, backed up by the usual Stealth Suits (new favourites of ours), Broadsides and a Ghostkeel. The Mont'ka detachment focuses on Lethal Hits and Assault through the first three turns of the game, meaning aggression is key here. A tasty Firesight Marsksman dishing out scout with an enhancement means about half of this army is shooting down the field turn 1!
Can the Silver tide hold back the green tide? Dan brings the Necrons back out for a run with a particularly spicy Immortal blob, Will doesn't like it. Watch for that alone!
A great game, and really nice to see some different Tau lists and strategies becoming viable. We'll have some more to see in the next little while trying out some other new codex detachments, so stay tuned and chuck us a subscribe here to be first to know when that drops! / @weirdwolfgames .
Next new codex will be the chaos space marines, we're bus in the background painting up some new toys to be able to hit that asap!
Dan's correct. You can choose to allocate the wounds on whichever Bodyguard model you wish, so he can choose to allocate them on the Cryptothralls.
One thing I think you got incorrect though about the interaction:
You always use the highest Toughness value existing within the Bodyguard unit, no matter where the wounds are allocated. That means that they Cryptothralls effectively have T5, because Immortals are T5.
Good lord that’s even better! Gnarly stuff, thanks for clarifying mate
i've actually won many games with kroot, just as screeners for first/second turn charges, deepstrike, objectives.
the kroot detachment is amazing, -1 to hit, 5++ ranged and 6/5+ fnp, with a squad revive its really durable.
forgot to mention they can scout, and you can have 3 trail shapers meaning redeploy 6 kroot units after knowing first turn, and in kauyon grab the enhancement for 3 tau units to redeploy before fist turn is known. so much pre game movement
I found the scout spam with this Tau list surprisingly powerful! I think an all kroot list would be super fun, just might need to be over quite a long time, those 75 point units add up pretty quick! Thanks for watching dude, more Tau coming down the line.
@@WeirdWolfGames any tau for sure, love watching. keep in mind when you play kroot detachment their rule is per model, not unit. so you can shoot/attack 1 kroot from a 20 man unit to see if they kill or wound something first and carry on with say half of their shots or attacks for the +1 to hit below starting and +1 to wound below half strenght.
@@WeirdWolfGames also nearly finished watching your batrep.. noticed you have 2 shield drones on the crisis teams.. you can only have 1 shield drone per suit now (excluding commander).
and with the kroot free battle tactic, you can use generic strat "go to ground for that 6++" and with mont'ka you have "aggressive mobility", and "focus fire",
@TheRealKyle aha! Excellent call outs mate, Thankyou! Shame about the drones
Beautiful painting
Great battle report. Really fun to watch. Looking forward to more battles from you.
I'm not sure if it was just done to make the video easier yo watch but the tau observing doesn't have to be all done at thr start of the shooting phase. You do it as each unit goes to shoot you can choose sn observer. It means later in the turn you can choose to guide an anti tank unit at a transport if it didn't die as exoected earlier rather than guiding an anti infantry unit.
The allocation rule query was almost done right. Thr tau player rolls against the majority toughness (I beleive) and then the necron player allocates to which ever model he wants and then rolls the save for that model. This may mean rolling less dice until the crypteks are dead. For example if the crytek has 3 wounds remaining and the unit suffered 10 wounds then you would allocate to the cryptek and roll the first 3 saves, if the cryptek survives then you can continue to allocate to him, for example if he passed 2 of the 3 saves you could allocate 2 more wounds to him to save. You can't roll all the saves on his armour save as he may die before all the wounds are done.
Thanks Rath! Oh that's definitely preferable to call out the observing when each unit targets. A bit of a mix here with trying to formulate a plan before the cameras started rolling to avoid too much faffing around, but also a misread of the rules!
You're absolutely right with the majority toughness from the Necrons. It actually makes the whole unit an even better incredibly bricky target, which hopefully gives Dan some inspiration for his next game! He'll win one of these days.
Thanks for watching and for the great comment, another bat rep coming on Monday!
Tau!!!!!
Yeeee boi!
Nice battle rep! Salty Necron player comment incoming 😅 - Heroic Intervention strat has to target a unit within 6” of the unit that has just charged, so the Kroot rampages shouldn’t have been able to charge the lychguard unit in turn 1. Really enjoyed the game, looking forward to more!
Thanks for the support dude! You're 100% right about heroic intervention (and not salty at all!), Will also got it wrong getting some charge bonus' (including fights first) in that interaction, but spotted after the game. Hopefully didn't impact toooo much, but definitely gave an advantage to the Tau. More coming down the pipe!
Amazing match.
Oooh, new Storm Trooper Helmet. Will you be playing any Star Wars games on the channel?
There's definitely hope dude! We have some bits and bobs knocking about the studio so watch this space and we hope to have some more specialized games on the channel soon!
Another new codex! Great game, what’s the next one coming?
Rumours of chaos space marines travelling through the warp… watch this space!
