- A complete and detailed installation guide on how to install the JOMLOOK MK6 Style taillights onto the MK5 Golf. There is a fair bit of wiring but once you get your head around it, it is actually a lot simpler than you think.
There are quite a few variations of these taillights, there are the standard 'New Design LED Taillights' that are red, light tinted, or limo tinted which these are.
The indicators also vary as you can have standard flashing indicators, or dynamic indicators like I have installed.

I was able to run a wire hanger (Joan Crawford be damned) up the inside of the quarter panel, same as the wiring harness, and fish the wires through. Took a little more effort but I didn't have to make any cuts in my grommets or have the wires exposed inside the tailgate. Thanks for the video!
That’s something I definitely should’ve tried, I tried to feed it through but it would never get all the way down. Well done for cracking it lad 🤩😂
@@PoweredByPetrol1 , yes - it was easier to go up. Of course, now I have to rewire everything because my car is the cheap american version with 3 leads in a 4 wire clip. 🤬

do the lamps work directly since you go from halogen to LED? And do they work without any problems?
No problems, they just plug straight into the standard adapters. All the wiring and coding has been done already 👍🏽

@@dirk691 Just remain calm, and triple check what you’re doing if you’re unsure. You can use WD-40 on the plugs to slide them into each other, or use pliers to bring them together. Match the colours up, and then make sure you secure them to the car tightly and that the sponge seals are tight, otherwise you’ll get condensation

I put at the bottom behind the boot trim, near the quarter panel metal if you can as that’s kind of the coolest place for it, the air flow isn’t high but it does the job. I’m not sure if there is a specific location for it

What was the issue you had with the fog light and reverse light? Is it easy to sort out?
@@C0ZZY11 makes me so happy to hear that you are enjoying the content. The rear fog and reverse light switch is super simple, the light on the right has a wire that can be pulled all the way over to the left. The wire that’s originally on the left needs to have wire added onto it to extend it to the right

By any chance did u have an issue with ur brake light always being on with the right side and the indicator either staying on constantly or not at all like my other side is perfect and I’ve swapped the wires round and stayed the same ?
My brake lights have been fine buddy, the only issue I’m having is condensation but that’s due to the car
i have this same problem but with the left side brake light, can you solve the problem finally?

Did you have any issues with your right tail light not working? At any point
I did for a moment, but that was just one or two bulbs that stopped working. If your entire twilight isn’t working then check your wiring, make sure power is running through all the wires. If you have power then have a chat with the company and they can get it sorted for you
where di you put the fans? I have this kit, but can't do the mod until I know where they go?
They literally just hang around, I put them behind the boot liner, honestly it’s probably best to have them hanging or screwed into the boot as there will be a lot more air there, and usual the boot is slightly cooled
We're did you put the fan for the lights?
There isn’t really a great spot for them, I just let them hang in the boot, as that gets some fresh air passing through it
have you had any issues with the way you wired the harness up the tailgate? im concerned about the wire slowly ripping from being out in the open
I’ve had one light problem with the lights, a few of the bulbs stopped working for some reason, and the company Tuning Fanatics Shop sent me a new unit within the same week. If you’re working about the wires being out, you can wrap them in duct tape like I did or purchase some plastic wires to cover it

So there are two different sets of these lights. The lights I have installed have the dynamic indicator lights, you may have bought the standard flashing red models

Looking at getting these but are they road legal and will they pass mot?
I highly recommend you get them, and yes they’re road legal. They have a high brightness, indicators, brakes, reverse, rear fog, all of it

Where did you get the r32 rear bumper from ?
I bought it off eBay, was a little damaged but that doesn’t scare me. As you can tell with my entire car 😂

How are they long term? Would you recommend?
I never had any issues with electrics, just the lights would fog up sometimes. I sorted that with a little hole under the lenses to let air through. Worked perfectly.

What year is your golf because mine is an 06 and I heard anything lower than an 07 HATES LED lights and will come up with any possible excuse to ruin your day, I was gonna install LED or HID headlights but I can't be arsed with stupid CANBUS errors and constant battery drain :/
My Golf was an 07 Plate, I have seen older Golfs with the same JOM Taillights. If you really want the lights, go for it, and have an auto electrician look at the errors if they come up I’d say

@@EscobarStyle if you search on EBay something along the lines of MK5 Tailights Dynamic JOM, you should find the same products. Often they’ll remove and replace the ad with the same product just to keep it refreshed

Hi mate, I found these on JOM website but it said left hand drive only, why is this?
They’re all “left hand drive”, it just means that the Fog Light and Reverse lights are in the wrong sides. They just need to be switch and your happy. 10 minute job. I really should’ve filmed the process back then

@@cenajojo9882 riiiiiiight, they were wires sent with the tailights to connect the main tailight to the tailgate taillight. These are only needed for the Dynmaic lights I believe
Did you buy these directly from JOM? because I've messaged them directly and they're stating they only supply these for left hand drive cars which is wrong for our roads.

Hi mate, sorry it’s so late. Yes I bought them directly from JOM through EBay, they are LHD but you can switch the fog and reverse light. I didn’t properly show how that was done which I apologise for

Yes it is, that’s the only place you can buy these as they are from German, I’ve bought two sets from these guys and they’ve been great

I personally don't like the look of the LED lights, I prefer the stock ones and I really wish that there were some out there which are tinted to a similar extent as these LED. The only legal ones I'd say you can get are original R32 since, but they are quite expensive at like 350 from what I've seen.
I have a white 07 GTI and I'm going for a black and white, these would look nice since they're tinted, but I as stated above not much a fan of the LED look.
These lights adhere to the UK guidelines as they’re designed to be highly visible even with the very dark tints. The dark tints I wasn’t a fan of before but now they’re growing on me, highlights the Wheels a little more which I like. Check out Golf Skyline Mod on Instagram and Facebook, you might like their tailights, and they can be custom made.
@@PoweredByPetrol1 Yeah, I'm from Austria and we get the same one you used in the video here too. But nothing else because for us tinted lights are illegal unless like you've said they were made specifically to be follow the rules. That's why I mentioned the R32, those are slightly tinted and look pretty good.
Although I might someday get the ones you have to try them out.

Is there an reason 50% of the light is dynamic and 50% if flashing?
In the Video it might look like they are flashing, but that’s only because LED lights will look like they’re flashing on a camera.
If you mean in general, JOM sell both dynamic and flashing lights

@@maddog6560 ahhh sorry my man, I wasn’t sure what you meant until now. Yeah the LED’s aren’t as smooth so half of it kind of flashes and then the rest of dynamic. Just the way they’re mad unfortunately. Can hardly tell though, looked great whenever I locked or unlocked the car

You might have a different set, JOM offer the Dynamic running signals like mine, or just the standard flashing lights that I’m assuming you have 👍🏽

@@KaranTandel. as far as I know, no companies sell a wide quad exhaust or diffuser. I am going to weld and fabricate my out quad tip exhaust, and then design the diffuser myself too, just by cutting out a new one ☝🏾

Valeo led are better in my opinion

I have had these lights for almost 2 years on my Mk5 GTI. While they look nice, I would not recommend them. Moisture finds its way quickly into the lights themselves, the fitment is far from perfect, and one side caused my trunk to start rusting because water wouldn't flow away...
I agree with the moisture problem, to solve that I used a saw and cut a little slit between the plastic lens and tailight. This allowed air to pass through the tailight and it stopped the build up of moisture.

@@patrykgti5893 honestly bud it’s hard to describe. You have to take a Saw between the lens and the black body of the housing itself.
dont make cuts in there. Water will get inside
Rear fog needs to be on the right side of vehicle, mot failure.Don't buy for England use.
Before mot always you can put back stock one 🤷🏻♂️🤣

@@DjSkye sweet, atleast you can get it sorted. Yeah some places are finicky about the Fog Light. The majority turn it on, see that there is indeed a fog light, and tick their box
