  • If you ride a Motorcycle in India then it might have been made by an Indian-origin brand, that's because 3 Indian brands lead in the whole world when It comes to selling motorcycles
and this very fact raises a very big question! and that is how Indian 2-wheeler brands are world leaders when Indian car brands are still struggling to retain their position in the top 20 list
The reason behind the Indian 2-wheeler brand's success is INDO-JAPANESE collaborations, and in this video, we are going to learn how these tie-ups made these brands so strong

    Three corrections
1, instead of bajaj kawasaki eliminator you told enticer. It was a product of Yamaha.
    2, Instead of Ind-Suzuki Ax100 you showed Yamaha rx100.
3, You didn’t mention the collaboration about Escorts and Yamaha
But you have created a very good video, informative content. Thanks bro.

Now coming to main question... NO, indian bike makers wouldn't stand on their own. Even today they hardly invest into RnD. can see, how much bajaj relies on KTM, TVS sought help from bmw for flagship model, hero has no flagship model. None of them even tried to developed simple air cooled twin cylinder engine like RE.

As for the ending question, I don't think indian manufacturers would be this large if they hadn't tied with the japanese or if the economy wasn't closed off in the 80s and the japanese were allowed to do business independently because the need of japanese in the 50s and indians in 80s were similar(as in they needed cheap, economical and reliable bikes). And Japanese manufacturers grew from the commuter segment in the first place, so it wouldn't have been hard for them to rule india as well like the rest of the world.
The only way indian manufacturers could possibly compete with them is through more efficient vehicles than them(that would have been really hard since they would have start from scratch) or focus on a segment that wasn't covered by the japanese(like royal enfield).
Though I am very fond japanese machines from the likes of honda and yamaha, It's amazing how indian companies have achieved new heights even after their split and are now competing internationally.

Our first was Bajaj Chetak..(before I was born)
Then Dad bought Yamaha Gladiator SS(cool looking bike for 2011-12 era).
Then recently In 2022 we (me and my brother) as Grownup for our College bought TVS Jupitor (Jyada ka fayda) really with 31L boot space I don't have to worry about Carry bag as i Used to for Our bike.
In Future too we will buy Indian bike/Car.😄

DTSI koi bahut barhi baat nahi thi, ek k jagah, 2 spark plugs laga diye bas, isse engine k ander hone vale double sparks k vajah se Combustion thoda or achcha ho gaya, Engine thoda or fuel efficient and powerfull ho gaya. Baaki Bajaj ki Guaranty varanty hi bata deti hai ki Bajaj apne bikes ko banate time kesa raw material use karti hai. Bajaj Bikes are good for Show off and stunts, but not good for long term use like HeroHonda Bikes was.
Noew Hero Moto Corp also Downgraded their quality after breaking up with honda, this is the main reason why Hero Moto Corp fails to sale their Premium Segment Bikes.

Presently Bajaj RE are purest Indian bike , hero still borrows crucial components from Honda (many 125 -150 cc engine components are direct fit with hero -honda bikes and scooters) TVS is post innovative small bike mfg in the world who can induce any technology in affordable segment . Yamaha's partnership with escorts wasn't mentioned and that Bajaj KB series and 4s boxer series bikes were not mentioned either and also tvs bringing in more first in segment technologies to india only started off in the last 6-8 years only before that it was Bajaj Pulsar which was on the top when it came to bringing first in India or segment firsts in India from 2002-2018 and that tvs always followed Bajaj in this regard and even tried to copy or emulate the same. But now TVS have changed drastically and it's Bajaj who has gone lazy (due to their brand positioning strategies with KTM, Husqvarna etc... But that's a story for another time...) and that tvs even though they are offering gimmicky stuff at times, they're still offering something fresh and first in class.

Japanese brands definitely gave a jump start to Indian brands. I think the policies back then forced them to tie-up with Indian brands to enter the Indian market which definitely was huge. No offense, but without all those collabs, these brands wouldnt be where they are now.
Indian brands are way better than Chinese low-cost bike manufacturers but they need to spend more time and money on R&D to get better coz even till now, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki etc have higher level of engine refinement and reliability.
Indian brands also need to use better components coz even Indian-made Yamaha and Suzuki have better components than Bajaj or TVS do, so its obvious there are good suppliers already in India.
