I think I failed to deliver or convey my messaging on one key point. I did not say weak auras are bad. I'm more saying that if you have 2 or 3 people speaking to you at same time, it's harder to hear what they are saying collectively. It's much better if two stop speaking so you can hear the third. This is metaphor I wish I had used in video to convey what I meant about overlapping (key word) redundancy. Adding a WA to do soemthing DBM doesn't do, etc is not same category AT ALL.
Also, it doesn't matter what you use. If you prefer DBM, BW, or WA sounds, you should just make sure they aren't all shouting at you at the same time for a more ideal experience for yourself.
I thank those of you watching and commenting though but I hope this pin helps.

This is one reason that DBM stood out to be as having far better sound settings than bigwigs.
Bigwigs would say the name of the spell, which is a huge mental load to learn and parse (in the case of m+ this is a lot of sounds).
DBM provided superior clarity by simply saying what I needed to know such as "aoe incoming" or "move". The name of the ability was irrelevant to preparing because i would more easily learn what the ability acts like because i know to be looking for an AoE

Yep that was my exact thought process as well with the voice packs.

The main reason I still use WAs in addition to DBM is a few extra sounds and icons. I usually use things like dfraid1, dfraid2, dfraid3, or dfdungeons. A lot of icons are very useful to show you a specific debuff you have that you otherwise wouldn't know about, think for example the shield your get in the amirdrassil council fight when you have to soak the puddles.
Sometimes WAs also add extra bars like on the shield phases on Raszageth, this lets me see how far the timer vs shield hp is. Those are some very important features that I miss in DBM, and I notice that others miss them too when they don't have the WAs installed as they simply don't see/know the mechanics. They refuse to install WA packs and sadly perform mechanics worse to a point where it often affects the group of raid.

i think my delivery failed if take away was me saying weak auras bad. I said everything to the contrary actually. I said over stimulation to point of having to conditionally filter sound is bad
the discussion was on not disabling or muting what isn’t working and then having a combat situation that’s basically sounds or texts fighting over each other for your attention.
tune into a stream sometime and listen to the literal sound torture people subject themselves to because they have 3 different things shouting at them for every single mechanic.
A proper configuration would be maybe dbm has timer and alert text and flash but sound is disabled because you prefer weak aura and maybe weak aura has better cast bar. or some other combination of features.
what you don’t want is hyper over stimulation that you literally have to train yourself to drown out.
i actually surveyed people before recording this and most said they didn’t hear most of sounds conditionally tuned out. that’s bad. it’s like choosing to play wow in middle of construction zone and going “this is fine”

@@linaori agreed. And as a tank I like to see tank debuffs (main and co) in their own icons so we know when to taunt swap. I think if dbm had this it would be perfect.

Good video. I've had the same thoughts about addon sounds for a while now. I's good to see someone with authority speak about it!

yep. i wish more would tackle sound issue. but it feels most players want to be the “this is fine” meme. but is that works for them. me personally. i try to have a tidy ui visually and audibly. in fact i plan to do video soon talking about my own personal approach to ui since i figure some might want to see that

@@mysticalos UI is a great topic that I'm invested into myself. I'd love to hear your opinions on it.

having a set of sounds that are single words would be more ideal though - "personal" "debuff" "move" "stack" etc etc

    • @mysticalos
      @mysticalos  Місяць тому

yep. I've heard that feedback a lot. but don’t disable the sounds you aren’t using so you can hear the ones you are more effectively?

Yeah I think the process of habituation doesn't happen with whole words like it happens with just plain sounds.

@@Spyro- idk I definitely do better with words. It’s like a RL that I choose to hear without bad comms lol
