Just got it today came in mail early. I love it I hit 2 large buckets of balls today. only had 10 go slice right and 5 mild hooks. Average for my usual distance no super long shots. I bought mine with 45.5 inch diamana shaft regular flex. Practice was with me swinging about 85% I have struggle with slice for 15 years this year i have worked hard to fix it. It was starting to straighten out before this club, but this fusion is unreal with consistancy.
what a fantastic review ..... I've given up golf because of a back injury but I still love watching anything golf ..what I loved about the review was its a classic thing when a high to mid handicap golfer goes to the shop and bits off the shelf without being fitted . the shaft was not right for you nor the length hence why the indifferent shops ....that's a proper review ....... how people can see why fitting is so important ..if your going to spend your good earned money on golf clubs for his sake get fitted first lol .....thx rick brilliant reveiw mate ...
I just got this driver and upgraded from the Big Bertha Titanium 454, i haven't hit it just yet but so looking forward to it. I hope it's an improvement.
Definitely interested in seeing the test with Rob. As a 41 yr old ..10 handicap with 98-100 mph swing speed, I carry my 45.25 inch driver 230 -235 range. Interested to see if the shorter shaft would promote more center strikes, therefore no real loss of distance.
I had the opportunity to hit this driver today with a OBAN Kyoshi 44.5" Stiff shaft. No number tho, but I liked it. I had the feeling that this driver was one of the quietest drivers out there with a very dull sound when you hit it. Normally I play with a 915D3 with Graffaloy Blue Speedcoat in 44" so the length of the shaft is perfect, more players should play with shorter drivers. I big misses are almost gone, and my pattern on the clubface is more centered. Can't wait for a review of different shaftlength, with all range of hcp skill. I'm playing of 4.0 hcp.
i played for 2 seasons with my driver shaft shortened by an inch-helped me to gain more control and my driving average distance went up as i found the sweetspot more often...yes on my very best drives i was giving up about 15 yards but overall i gained ( i use game golf so my stats were tracked)...I've now switched back to the longer shaft as my driving really improved with the shorter 1 and i gained confidence and accuracy with it 👍
I went for a fitting last week and my fitter let me try this driver. The forgiveness was definitely evident, but for me it lost to the M2 in terms of forgiveness coupled with distance. Was interested to hear what you had to say about it. Thanks for the review!
I have one of these drivers and being short of the arse the length works brilliantly for me. Ok, I’m not a big hitter but I find a lot more fairways than my mates. Great club.
Love your channel Rick, but I have an observation here....Whenever you do a callaway driver review, it's like you are discounting the club performance before you even hit it. I've watched a few reviews of this club, and allot of guys are putting it out there on distance. We all know your a 300+ hitter... and you favor Taylor made and Ping stock, but remember the GBB 341yds? ..you did the XR16/XR16pro review with unfitted shafts and didn't even adjust the lofts until halfway through. I guess all I'm saying is , I wish you put the same enthusiasm into the Callaway drivers.Hey maybe I'm off base ... who knows .. just an observation.
Seems to resemble a cross between an R7 CGB Max and the '08 Burner, or the updated FT-iZ, but with a much more neutral face angle and a better look, too^^. However, this video is a good reminder "strike is king." I don't think Rick would have any trouble hitting this club very close to the M1 with the proper shaft and length.
hi rick, just wanted to let you know that im loving the fact that you are vlogging about your quest for the open. just wanted to call you out and wanted to check in on you. Have you been keeping up with your fitness? haven't seen you talk about it in a long time, hope all is well. take care.
Love the review and the concept. I've actually popped my ping g ls tec driver head onto my ping g 3 wood shaft and have had great results in terms of accuracy and not that much of a drop off in distance according to my game golf stat tracker. Mostly because balls that hit the fairway run out more than ones that land in the rough so the carry distance lost is almost all made up for in the run out. It did take some getting used to visually because it is a 43" shaft but I can't argue with the results.
That recoil shaft is nice. UST Mamiaya is doing great work. Used to use the Proforce V2 and liked it a lot. Can't wait to try this head out, looks interesting and I agree with some other comments, Great to see consistency get a marketing plug.
I've moved to 44" or 44.5" on driver a few years back and will never go back. The club head speed lost is minimal. However, the consistently higher ball speeds seen from hitting middle of the face more often far outweigh what would have been seen with a longer shaft
Excellent vlog Rick - you really do deliver the goods on club reviews. Not sure I totally like the look of the club head but the combo of club head and shaft length makes it of interest I look forward to hearing what Rob thinks about it as well Cheers
Quick question: I have a lot of trouble with hitting my driver straight. I tend to have a massive slice or a massive hook. The slice happens about 19/20 times and the hook 1/20 times. I hit my three wood great with either a straight flight or a 3-5 yard fade. The main difference between the clubs is that my three wood is stiff flex (irons and hybrid are also stiff) and my driver is a regular flex. Is my driver's shaft flex a main contributor to my slice/rare hook.
yes, a stiffer shaft could be the reason. If you have an adjustable driver, increase the loft, say by 1 degree, and see what the result is. Remember, the loft of a 3 wood is around 15 degrees. By adding spin to the ball from your driver, the ball, cannot spin sideways and result in a slice. If there is no improvement to the ball flight by adding loft to the driver, check a stiffer shaft. Good luck.
This is something I've been looking at (Shaft Length) as I really struggle to keep it straight and in play with my driver, also considering getting a strong 3 wood as a replacement until i can get my driver on song.
Spend your money on lessons instead. A few months ago i really couldn't hit a driver or even a 3 wood (i was using my trusty callaway 5 wood steelhead) then i went and had a lesson with Pete Finch and it's now one of the strongest parts of my game. My driver isn't spec'd to my swing and has the wrong shaft (I snapped my other driver) but with lessons and alot of practice I'm improving significantly. Honestly, get lessons!
+MrMannydac Just because I'm thinking about it , doesn't mean I haven't had lessons. At the moment I am concentrating on getting more consistency at the moment and I'm going to work on my driver during the winter. So don't assume I'm considering this out of hand. I'm well aware lessons will help. Ive even spoke to my coach about this.
I play this driver and fairway wood lost no distance but very accurate, granted I'm nearly 69 and. 21 handicapper but I think this club is designed for golfers like me. Enjoyed the review though.
I recently got this driver as the replacement of my Diablo Edge driver.. and I want to like it so much but I can't. I don't know what it is but I can't stop slicing.. I never had a problem with hitting a driver straight until I got this one...
So much is to be said for the strike when it comes to driver. I use a 45" r flex 10.5* Affinity explode. I drive 275 regularly and can touch 300 on a good shot on a nice fairway. I have to time the strike a bit because my swing speed exceeds the r flex shaft and it needs to be replaced every year because the face becomes dented in the center. That being said, I bought the club at my local sporting good store off the clearance rack for 15 bucks. It's all you, not all about the driver.
This test must be analyzed carefully. For a Mid Handicapper it could work great with lower speed as Rick. I played same UST Mamiya Shafts a period in my Irons, great Shafts. And we should consider that 1" shorter may cut some yards but has normally more control.
The driver you're thinking of might be the TaylorMade Burner 2.0 (or the Burner Superfast). My father uses it and I always found it very triangular EDIT: I wrote the comment before getting to the part where you remember :D ahahah
Rick, where are the other videos? long shaft versus short shaft? also I'd like to see you dial this driver in, I imagine your gonna need a 9.5 set -1° to get anything like your best numbers. Let's see it against the new GBB Epic drivers.
Cant wait to see the future tests with Rob and you with the 45.5 shaft. But could you try the club with a X Flex shaft also, you keep saying everyone needs to get fit for shaft. I'm sure there is a Rogue with a callaway tip there somewhere ( I know you are trying to show what the stock shaft does but its not a true test when it affects you and your game). Just a thought, Great channel.
How about putting a 1" shorter shaft in your M2 to see if it doesn't tighten up your dispersion? IMAO, :-) you have plenty of distance, and giving up 10yds on the average drive in order to be playing more often from the fairway might serve you very well, even (especially?) in your Open qualification quest.
Could you find an novice golfer with a terrible slice to test the Ping Sf driver? I know it wont fix a slice but would be interested to see if it affects a terrible slice at all. Love the videos, congrats on the baby mate.
I game the ping G30 SF tec. I bought it to cure the slice in my game. That it will not do, I still had to fix the flaw in my swing. It will help if the slice is minor, but on doglegs I let my hands go and I can still slice the ball 50+ yds. That being said I have more confidence with the SF than the standard G30 and they both crush the ball.
I game Ping sf tec, thought it was going to be a miracle cure for my slice, it was not to be! Was fitted for the club it did improve my slice but not to the extent I needed, my biggest improvements came from having an inch and a quarter cut from the shaft, and starting to swing from the inside. Reducing driver length is the best decision I have ever made when it comes to golf, I can now consistently hit the fairway and hit 260 with no problems! (If I want more I can squeeze some extra yards out but I sacrifice accuracy) Driver is now the club I pull with confidence, not trepidation, now if I can only get my 4 iron to work as well, we'll be sorted.
Thanks guys, have been working on my swing to stop the slice and have stopped slicing as far as before with every third or fourth shot going straight so was just wondering if it could help get that to a more consistent straight shot. Obviously my swing is the major issue but any help i can get would be massive.
I was having the same problem. Cobra was having a Demo Day at the golf course I play at. After talking to the Rep he had me try the Cobra Max ( offset driver) bingo. It is in my bag $250.00 & I am now 90% in the fairway. It helped me but as others have said it is coming over the top that produces the slice so I am working on that also. Check out Clay Ballard's drill for coming over the top.
What are the chances you can get your hands on some Miura clubs to review? Specifically the MB-001 and PP-9003. Beggars can't be choosers I know, but I'm interested to know your opinion of that brand
We need a mid handicapper review on this club and would also like to see it compared to other drivers like the M2 with a mid handicapper doing the testing.
I have hit the Fusion a couple of more times since my initial test with a different shaft and found that I am consistently hitting it longer and straighter than my current Cobra F6 driver. I am going to hit it some more and see if this continues to be the case.
I love callaway and that's all I play, I think it looks great, but just like you I'd have the se problem and I would lose a ton of distance and I don't need the extra forgiveness
Remember 98% of golfers are not as good as you are at golf. I personally would rather hit 250 yards and be fairly straight, than hit 300+ and have to either chip out on my second or take a drop.So after the first 2 shots how far are the total yards going to be at the end of the round on average. I pick accuracy any day. great video.
I would be very happy with a 260 average carry with a few dodgy ones in the mix ! Seriously love to try this with my old man swing speed as I'm struggling to push past 220.
I don't believe it. A modern golf company finally realizes that control, not just distance, is important in golf, and begins using it in it's marketing. Tiger used a 43" shaft his first years on tour. He did alright 🐅🙂
Definitely on my radar! Been playing 44.5 driver length for 2 years now! Can't wait to give it a smack!
Reminds me of the Titleist 907 D1
+Luca Imwinkelried true
I agree, very 907 D1-ish: www.shottalk.com/attachments/907-comp-jpg.5373/
spot on what I thought
I was coming here to say the same thing, great minds.
Yep...spot on. Had one and hated it!!!
Looks like a titleist 907 d2. That was a big triangle
That recoil shaft is nice. UST Mamiaya is doing great work. Used to use the Proforce V2 and liked it a lot. Can't wait to try this head out, looks interesting and I agree with some other comments, Great to see consistency get a marketing plug.

I'd just got used to the XR driver being a game improvement tool, and now this!
The r7 limited was very similar but not stretched back as much but the d1 was most similar I think
hey Rick...I have this driver and I love it...have you tested it with the standard length shaft yet?
This is something I've been looking at (Shaft Length) as I really struggle to keep it straight and in play with my driver, also considering getting a strong 3 wood as a replacement until i can get my driver on song.

It's fade biased for me too.
Rick I have the taylormade super fast driver thanks for the great vids you have inspired me and my friend to start are own golf related channel
Interesting concept with the two shafts. Not my cup of tea but it can help with control for some players.
Love this series of Callaway club's, I have a set of Callaway x14 irons and Razer x hybrid and there very nice club's. keep up the great videos Rick
They’re *
It would be interesting to see the Senior version. I love my XR
Rick you where thinking about the Taylormade Tour Burner driver
Shape wise it looks like the taylormade R7 cgb max which was a burgundy colour.

I can't imagine myself rushing out to test this one tbh.. Maybe next time.. Wish they'd do a new Fti Square head💪👍👍
By looks, it remainds me the Callaway FT iz Driver. That triangular shape is unforgettable.
Great video Rick! Keep it up :)
Hey Rick you think you'll be able to get a Titleist 917 driver before it hits the market?
Rick Shiels may you please please review Honma Beres Pro driver . thanks
Being a big Bertha fan, irons and driver, I'd love to give this new fusion a swing
Best looking driver ever in my opinion
Would love to see you try out the new jpx 900 line :)

hey Rick you should pitch this up against the mizuno jpx ez as they are for the same market.
whats more forgiving out of Fusion or Epic

VWRabbit2008 thanks for reiterating my point Sherlock.
i have a ping g2 3 wood and it is very triangular like that driver.
Strike is KING!

Looks like the old TM burner driver. I think that's the one you are thinking of
Rick I think you're thinking of the Titleist 907D1
I would like to see you but that shaft and a great big Bertha head and see if it does any difference
I think you were thinking of the taylormade burner?
Looks like my 2008 Tour Burner from the top!
We need a mid handicapper review on this club and would also like to see it compared to other drivers like the M2 with a mid handicapper doing the testing.
I love mine so much, I still get decent distance but that's not my goal lol
Hey Rick, is it the Taylormade R7 cab
Looks similar to the Taylormade r7 limited which was a sort of red colour.
It reminds me of the Taylormade R7 CGB Max driver from like 2008.
Would anyone recommend this driver for me.. I am 14 and hit my Aeroburner about 240 yards. Would this be a good club for me?
So would 'game improvement' mean that is is suitable for the high handicapper?
yes,
Not enough game improvement to stop rick's hook though 😂😂😂
Looks like the old Callaway FT-iz Driver, Sounds like it too.
Reminds me of my old R7 CGB Max driver.
Taylormade burner tp I have one same triangular shape but white
I tried the fusion at a Callaway event at the local PGA Tour Superstore. It did not work for me. The XR driver fit me better.
I have hit the Fusion a couple of more times since my initial test with a different shaft and found that I am consistently hitting it longer and straighter than my current Cobra F6 driver. I am going to hit it some more and see if this continues to be the case.
Reminds me of the Taylormade burner driver!
Titleist 907 d1 looks very similar with a triangular top
I love callaway and that's all I play, I think it looks great, but just like you I'd have the se problem and I would lose a ton of distance and I don't need the extra forgiveness
Very much like the Callaway FT-IZ from a few years ago
looks a lot like the TM Superfast 2.0 head!
It reminds me more of the Taylormade tour burner with that head. But that was a great driver
It looks like the TM Tour Burner, Rick.
Geared for good game!
shape looks like a burner superfast 2.0, the white one
The Taylormade Superburner had a shape like that
Remember 98% of golfers are not as good as you are at golf. I personally would rather hit 250 yards and be fairly straight, than hit 300+ and have to either chip out on my second or take a drop.So after the first 2 shots how far are the total yards going to be at the end of the round on average. I pick accuracy any day. great video.
Use your 3 wood then!
+golfboy1989 44 1/2" is about as long as anyone should have a driver under 6'5. I'm dead serious.
Looks very like the Callaway FT-iZ Driver
Reminds me of the titleist 907 d1
I would be very happy with a 260 average carry with a few dodgy ones in the mix ! Seriously love to try this with my old man swing speed as I'm struggling to push past 220.
Looks like the taylormade burner TP driver that Lowry used until this year
I think it looks more like the Mizuno JPX825!
Just what we needed....another Callaway driver.
Does it remind you of the Callaway FT IZ?
let's see rob give it a hit!!!
Can u do a review on a Krank golf driver
I don't believe it. A modern golf company finally realizes that control, not just distance, is important in golf, and begins using it in it's marketing. Next thing you know, they might start weakening lofts on their irons and start saying that control and gapping is more important than how far you hit your 6-iron.
RICK ITS THAT TOP FLITE FRIVE MATE
Reminds me of the Burner superfast...
didnt you give away the green calaway bag?
