History of the 4th St. Grade Crossing in Malta, IL

Here's another crossing that was upgraded in the replacement spree of 2020 on the UP Geneva Sub. This had mid 70s Safetran signals installed by the C&NW and as of 2016 still had its original Safetran mechanical bell but was replaced by 2018 with a GS Type 3. However, in 2020, the signals were replaced entirely with new Siemens signals.

a railroad crossing in downtown on where I live. Old 2 signals that were not cantvillers like signals were replaced with 4 signals with always the NEG-E Bell on newer railroad crossings 2 of them are cantviller gated signals and the other 2 are non gated & non cantviller signals. And another one on girvan street where they added back traffic lights a few years after the old ones were demolished down. At the time of the traffic light demolish. The 2 old cantviller signals were still there. The long gates and the many lights and the GS Type 2/ Safetran type 2 bell were still there when workers were adding new signals that were non gated. Cantvillers still there. When the crossing had to be replaced due to a truck hitting one of the cantvillers. The old cantvillers that were 2 signals were replaced with new 4 railroad crossings signals and they were done with the non gated ones when the new gated ones were being put in. They removed the old cantviller on the side that was not the highway and then they did the rest with the crossing unfolded the lights added gates wired them together and then BOOM the crossing was replaced. They also added back traffic lights since they took down the old ones a few years earlier. with brand new traffic light technology. When the opened the crossing back they still had to work on the traffic light something and then BOOM they finished the add back traffic lights and the crossing replacement on girvan street.

The 1st bell for the bell deaths is the Safetran macanical bell and the 2nd bell that was replaced was that GS type 3 E bell
