  • The M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle is an armoured vehicle with firing capabilities that can destroy a main battle tank.
    The US has confirmed it is sending the infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine "in the near future" as Kyiv forces continue to fight against Russia’s invasion.
    Here’s a look at the M2 Bradley and its capabilities.

    At NTC we mostly trained to engage with the T72 with the Scout Bradley's. When we were ambushing them for the most part we had a 7 kills to 1 loss ratio on average. However whenever we got ambushed those numbers didn't look nearly as good lol

      Ukraine will win this war eventually. It's just a shame that Ukrainians have to suffer in the mean time.
      The US, UK and Canada all have Ukraines back and will provide as much money and equipment to ensure Ukraine wins. You don't have to worry about receiving future shipments of equipment, they definitely won't stop. I think it's only a matter of time before the US and UK start sending Abrams and Challenger tanks. These new IFV shipments have opened a door that allows the discussion of sending tanks to Ukraine.

    • @damianm-nordhorn116
      @damianm-nordhorn116 Рік тому +4

      Go ahead and define "tank".
      Challenger, M1, Leopard etc. are MBTs. They are what you (personally) consider "a tank", while, in fact, they are certain types of tanks.
      In German IFVs are Schützenpanzer, which translated literally means something like infantry tank or squad tank, with "Schütze" meaning infantryman.
      .. and you probably know what's a Panzer, right?

    • @TrueChell
      @TrueChell Рік тому +3

      @@damianm-nordhorn116 Calling everything that's armored a "tank" will needlessly bolster regular people's image of what's being supplied to Ukraine. Where I am, I hear people call every manner of thing (including ac/mraps) a "tank", and what they mean is MBTs. Though they don't understand the difference with anything. Convenient?

    • @studentaviator3756
      @studentaviator3756 Рік тому +1

      I think some of it is political posturing to make it seem less of a scary jump to when they actually send mbt.
      People either downplay a system or play up a system for political purposes in this case m2 Bradley "tanks" and amx10 wheeled "tanks" are being sent so why not send leopard 2 tanks.

    • @tasman006
      @tasman006 Рік тому

      I've been studying tanks and armoured vechiles for over 40 years. There has been a great evolution in armour since its inception in WW1. The tank itself evolved from three types. Light, Meduim and Heavy tank and basically became all three as the MBT after WW2 with most countries. Even though light tanks are still around basically a tank due is a tracked armoured vechile with a turret a main gun with coax machine gun. (A armoured vechile with wheels I classify as an armoured car some people will say its a tank with wheels.)
      For infantry it started of on horse then the truck then a armoured half track which then evolved into a tracked APC or armoured perssonel carrier which generally just had a machine gun like the M113 and carried infantry. This then evolved into the Infantry fighting vechile or IFV which has better firepower generally a 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 35mm and 40mm auto cannon. Some have for example a standard gun like the Russian BMP 1 which is 73mm low pressure gun and most not all will have a ATGM or Anti Tank Guided Missile, coax machine gun and of course carries the infantry. (Agian there is also wheeled versions of APC's and IFV's.)
      Other vechiles like tanks where tank destroyers or support vechiles that didn't have a turret or where open topped with a turret. This practice didn't last long and any tank destroyers morphed into a tracked vechile without a gun and had ATGM system but in most armies today this kind of vechile is not really used anymore accept in Russia.
      For artilary a SPG or self propelled gun also has gone through an evolutionary process to make artilary more mobile generally they will have a turret put on top of a tracked Chasis of a tank or other vechile mounting generally a 105mm, 122mm, 152mm, 155mm, 175mm, 203mm gun. There is also engineering vechiles on tracked Chasis of MBT's.
      The Media don't have this knowledge and just print what they think it is without the common sence of using Google.

      Did you boys ever consider where the term "tank" was first used, for what sort of vehicle?
      No, not for an MBT with a big main gun like the Tiger..
      Vehicles such as the Mark IV (the original "tank") and the A7V were basically infantry fighting vehicles, with machine guns and HE spitting guns.
      MBTs are called MBTs a reason.
      Otherwise one would ONLY call them "tanks", not "main battle tanks".
      So OBVIOUSLY they're specifically called MBTs BECAUSE there are other vehicles one can call "a tank".

      Yes, MBTs have shown their value in the Ukrainiane...in open warfare like the wars in Iraq, flat open areas, its tank on tank. Most accurate, longest range gun and best armour teamed with training and motivated crews win. Anything urban, wooded etc, drones and man launched anti armour weapons have decimated MBTs.

      If by modern MBT’s you mean platforms that detect & effectively engage at longer ranges than the Russian MBT’s, then yes.
      NATO’s help to Ukraine is money-limited. (sadly… Budapest memorandum, smh).
      Platforms for Ukraine’s use need to be tailored to Ukraine’s immediate, but also long-term strengths & weakness. ^^
      Ukraine’s army has manpower overload; it also has a money shortage, equipment quantity shortage & “new & complex platforms” maintenance training shortage.

It’s a massive vehicle with a high silhouette, it’s got TOW missiles which the BMP2 has a similar SACLOS via the Fagot or Konkurs. It’s cannon is only 25mm vs 30mm on the BMP. The only thing I can think of is the armour can protect against a RPG and maybe the optics will be more advanced but it depends which version is sent

      The armor is a vast improvement over Russian counterparts, especially BMP-1/2. Better to think of it as a comparison between the BMP-3, which is essentially an equal minus the 100mm coaxial cannon. Protecting against 12.7mm vs 30mm is a lot of protection. The Bradley also has much more sophisticated technology compared to much of what is currently fielded on the Ukrainian battlefield. Laser range finders, stabilizers, gen 2 thermals, or even small things like a camera for the driver to significantly make the vehicle more efficient. It is a great edge for the Ukrainians, although unlikely it will be a M2A3.

    Norway ignored the Bradley in favor of the CV90. As did Sweden obviously. The Bradley proved to have issues operating in difficult terrain and snow. Plus it's 25mm gun falls short compared to a 30mm or 35mm or a 40mm.
    It is also not suited for armored assaults, with troops fighting from the vehicle. With troops fighting mounted you have more eyes spotting targets and more guns engaging enemies. For Bradley-troops to be effective, they must dismount and thus slow down the unit to a walk. It is essentially a glorified APC and a terrible IFV.
    Its one redeeming quality are the TOWs. As a tank hunter, the Bradley does well in ambushes. But if you pit Bradleys vs most other IFVs, the Bradley would not come out on top. All that said... I still think it will be effective in Ukraine, because the Russians are incompetent. The TOWs will be very effective against clueless Russian vehicle crews. So in the end, despite its obvious shortcomings, against poor opposition, I think the Bradley will be useful.
    An IFV needs to bring something extra to the battlefield. In WW2, German panzergrenadiers fought almost exclusively from their halftracks, rarely dismounting. Because this allowed the unit to be mobile, it could advance or withdraw when required, no need to stop and wait for infantry to dismount or mount up. It allowed the panzergrenadiers to move with the tanks without slowing them down to a walk. The Bradley does not allow for such aggressive maneuvering. It is not a vehicle that assaults positions, it taxis troops to a location where they can dismount. That's basically an APC. That's all it is. It is a terrible IFV. APCs have used 20mm guns for decades, and the Bradley is an APC with a 25mm gun.
    Remove the TOWs and you have an APC. And if you're claiming a Bradley offers anything an APC does not, you're delusional. An old APC with a 20mm gun, with hatches that allows 4-6 soldiers to spot targets and shoot at infantry offers move offensive capability than a Bradley. Without the TOWs, it's a glorified APC that can't hold its own against Swedish or German combat vehicles. It is not suited for IFV work.
    But the TOWs are it's saving grace

    • @scruffy7760
      @scruffy7760 Рік тому

      Germany have sent Marder 1s. Same principle as the Bradley. A 20mm autocannon and old school wireguided missiles. But the Germans have replaced the Marders with Pumas, sporting a 30mm autocannon and updated missiles.
      The TOWs are still old wireguided missiles. The Bradley is still using a 25mm.
      Compare this to a Swedish CV90 with a 40mm autocannon capable of firing HE at infantry, SABOT at tanks and Proximity Rounds at helicopters. Plus, the CV90 allows the dismounts to fight mounted from hatches, just like WW2 panzergrenadiers. The dismounts can spot targets 360 for the crew and can engage enemies sneaking up on the vehicle with antitank weapons. And, in the assault, the dismounts can fight from the vehicle, enjoying the protection and speed and mobility of the CV90 while engaging the enemy.
      And if you wonder if this is still working, so long after WW2, Ukraine has used these tactics in this very conflict. Riding tanks up to Russian trenches, dismounting within 0-50m of the enemy and pushing in to point blank range.
      The Bradley was not designed for such aggressive maneuvering and tactics. Because it's an APC in all but name. Heck, there is a CV90 variant with French Akeron missiles, true fire and forget ATGMs without wire guidance. The Bradley is old, outdated and not a modern fighting vehicle by any standards.
      But I still think it will perform well against the Russians, because they are quite simply incompetent.
