Cheers dude! I've only recently got into the expressions but there's a whole lot you can do with them. Bounce animations, perpetual movement, Ease In and Outs etc etc all without keyframes and just using expressions. The math is hard to grasp but i've written a few really cool ones so far. You know probably know all this already but its new for me so I'm having some fun 😆
@@MrAlexTech I love expressions and use them a bunch for tool animations, but whenever I try to teach them on my channel, people fall asleep. You did a great job of keeping it simple and explaining it in a way that keeps the viewer engaged.
Hehe, I was just just thinking who of you both I should ask to help me with a fusion question. Well Billy, as you see I picked Alex ;-) But you both do a great job, thank you! Here's my problem: I want to access metadata from the clip in the track underneath the fusion comp, preferrably saved as a macro or so. Is this possible?
MrAlexTech, I just made a countdown circle using an Ellipse, untick solid, bump border width and your expression video. 1-(time/comp.RenderEnd) expression. I only know how to the outside border. I'd love to see how to a full arm sweep of circle could be done. Thanks for all your great, generous work.

Alex - Excellent as usual I only started using DR this year and learned most of what I know using your videos as reference, brilliant. Have a project at the moment to teach various systems at work (Complex multi Satellite Antenna Systems), had fun messing with progress bars for chronological sequences, nice! My only observation was that the progress bars started at 1% and really ended on 101%. Easy fix is to use floor() instead of ceil() in the text expression ie:" Handover:

Nice, I have been looking for a tutorial for this for a while. But could you just remove the second rectangle and just move the first one to -0.5 so it is off the screen then put the code in so it moves back onto the screen?!
Hey! Yeaah you absolutely could. There is method to my madness though 😆 When you start using similar methods to create Titles or more complex stuff, 'revealing' using masks is one of the best way to do it so that's why I did it that way here.
great video again. do you know the way to show the progress number always as 2-digit, e.g. 01, 02, etc? this would prevent or reduce the jumping of the word "Progress" fom 9 to 10. cheers
Hi Alex,, This tutorial is really help full. Did you know how to hold the result after the end of the bar for a couple of second? Just to show the result...
Could you do a tutorial about a clock/timer expression, with start and end times? Example would be say a time lapse of a construction site that started at 07:30 but finished at 17:30 so the expression timer/clock must start and finish at those time.
Make sure to do this before inserting the loading/progress bar ANYWHERE: Step 1: Insert the clip at the very top if you wish to see it in all video clips Step 2: When inserting the clip change the clip duration to however long you would like it to be (For example the duration of your video) Step 3: If you wish the bar to be at a certain point when it is first seen you will need to crop it, but before you do, if you don't want it to affect the start and endpoints of the bar follow Step 4 Step 4: Right-click on the progress bar in your project then hover over "Render Cache Fusion Output" and switch it to off I hope this helps some of you! it took me hours today to figure this out, so hopefully, it saves everyone else's time!
That was a great video and one of the first I watched on Resolve/Fusion. I found that there is a better way to get X that will always render correctly even if you stretch/zoom/move your component around: 0.5 + (1/(comp.RenderEnd-comp.RenderStart) * time).
Hi Alex, thank you for this. I wanted to know how we can create a system or library that we can re use such fusion components or settings in new or other videos?
Great guide, thanks! Why wouldn't you just save the progress bar in Power Bins instead a macro? Then you can still edit it in fusuion after - changing the bar color for example...
Hi Alex. Fantastic channel. Learning a lot. Tks. I have a question: and if I need a progress bar that it’s not 100%. I need to show a 85% conclusion of anything, for instance. How can I do that?
That's great but do you notice that the percentage numbers are changing the position of the "progress" word? Do you know how to make the percentage numbers movements not altering the position of the word "progress"?
Awesome tutorials mate, would you mind sharing how can I control animation duration of the counter (lets say I want it to last 3 seconds) with the code: Text ("First Word " .. floor(time^2*100/comp.RenderEnd^2) .. " Last Word")
Fantastic tutorial! I will be using these in my track-day videos to indicate how long before the next passing zone. Where would a person find a list of all of the Fusion objects and properties like Composition.TimeEnd?
Hi Alex, first of all I want to thank you for the excellent video. Thanks for another great tutorial. Really appreciate your work. I only have one question about the text when stretching the time of the composition. I've made a countdown timer using your expressions but instead of the bar I've made a circle as the background with an animated ellipse around it. The animation works perfectly when used only as it is made. But when I stretch the time of the composition on the timeline the text gets masked/deleted on the sides, but only at certain timestamps. Is this something anyone else here has noticed?
thanks for a great video, easy to follow and I've created my first progress bar. Legend 🙏. Question regarding saving it on a Mac. When I get to Templates folder there is no Edit folder. Any hints?
FANTASTIC Alex. Thank you so much. I`m a Complete Noob Mate and youre helping me enourmously. Can I ask a little favour as I have an idea to level this up but dont know how to do it... Massive shout out to you when I get my channel up for sure ...Thank you... Chris
Hi Alex really enjoying your tutorials having just downloaded Davinci. Is it possible to save the progress bar as explained at the end of video into my external hard drive?

Hi Alex, Great video using expressions, I was just wondering could you change the colour from red to green when the bar has got to 100%? If so, how would you go about doing it because I have tried using a mask, the mask layer doesn't work, affects the whole thing rather than one point in time.
Hi, really nice video! I have one question, Is there a way I can put on a blanking fill on a photo, and then some text on top of it? I am trying, but as soon as I put on the title, the blanking fill dissapears. Can You help me?
Thank you very much for this Tutorial. I have one Question: Is it possible to save the settings as a preset but if i want for example not the word "Progress" to easily edit this settings without do all the steps again to create a new macro?
Hey mate. Awesome tutorial, but the numbers on my bar are jumping back and forth as the Progress bars goes on. Do you know whats causes this? Thanks in Advance :)
Reverse is easy enough just use: ceil((1-time/comp.RenderEnd)*100) .. "%" Starting at 1, minus the 0-1 counter giving us the same thing in reverse. Multiplied by 100 to give us 100 down to 0. To start at a different point, just change the multiplication i.e. ceil((1-time/comp.RenderEnd)*50) .. "%" That will start at 55% and work down to 0. However, getting it to stop at a point other than 0 will take a bit more math which I don't have to hand just yet 👍
Please help if you can. I added the progress bar to the middle of a video but the frames are in the negative so the progress bar starts at -45% then hits 0 then completes at 100%

Make sure to do this before inserting the loading/progress bar ANYWHERE:
Step 1: Insert the clip at the very top if you wish to see it in all video clips
Step 2: When inserting the clip change the clip duration to however long you would like it to be (For example the duration of your video)
Step 3: If you wish the bar to be at a certain point when it is first seen you will need to crop it, but before you do, if you don't want it to affect the start and endpoints of the bar follow Step 4

full first expression: Point(0.5 + time\comp.RenderEnd, 0.5) is not working. latest resolve version.
