I can never truly thank you enough for all that you have taught and continue to teach, even coming back to older videos like this one man! i appreciate you and so many others teachings!
I retired 10 years ago after 36 in the video industry - your knowledge makes me want to start working again so I can use all this information. 😉 Keep up the great channel.
Just keep going with expressions. There are many of us who desperately need to learn more in that field. Keep them coming. You are good!!!
I second that
OMG, cant believe I just made an perfect progress bar in davinci with your tutorial. Thank you
Love you Alex Thanks for everything, if your content on UA-cam was different now I wouldn't even know how to edit well, because you're the only one who explains well.
You're the clearest Resolve teacher I've found. Thank you for taking the time to teach us and for doing it so well. Subscribed!
Can't fall asleep and getting a notification from Mr Alex! Thanks for another great tutorial
Just been getting into Resolve, and your videos are the best. Binge watched a heap of the 5min Fridays. Thanks So much!
wow, my mind was blown! thank you for sharing this incredible tutorial, you just saved me so much time!
I rarely comment in UA-cam videos. But I have to say, the way you explain is so direct and easy to learn. Easily one of the best that has made my transition to Resolve smoother.
Thank you Alex.
Samuel. Love from Nigeria
Thank you so much! Easy and beautiful progress bar.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I really appreciate what you're doing here. As a beginner, I find your tutorials very detailed and easy to understand. More power to you.
You are relentless agent Alex 😂😂 great job!
Don't stop me nooooow I'm having such a good time! 😅
It's just because I'm locked inside and going slightly crazy! 😆
@@MrAlexTech Haha Fine! I will ALLOW you to keep on 😂
I totally get that. Im making a graphic for someone so this will actually help me a lot my guy!
Hehe, I was just just thinking who of you both I should ask to help me with a fusion question. Well Billy, as you see I picked Alex ;-) But you both do a great job, thank you!
Here's my problem: I want to access metadata from the clip in the track underneath the fusion comp, preferrably saved as a macro or so. Is this possible?
Terrific tutorial Alex as usual. very useful stuff for many applications. Keep up the quality work mate Cheers
Great! Cant' wait to use this one.
Godly explanation! probably the best tutorial out there!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing this knowledge! I follow all of those steps and worked well!
Worked like a charm. Thanks for this video!
I cannot explain how easy you made Davinci for me!! I am glad I discovered your channel a few months back!
Happy to help! 😊
That was exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much for this video! I love that I can have this as a generator preset! Thank you!!!
Another amazing tutorial Alex. I have learned so much from you. Thank you

I've really got to look into expressions in Resolve. Thanks for another awesome tutorial. There's a cup of coffee waiting for you.
Thanks a ton! I was just going to lookup how to do this for my social media videos and Boom. I get a notification that you released a video about it.

As always....great video! Thx
this is genius, simple and genius! thanks!
Really appreciate it. Nicely explained, thank you.
Wow I had no idea you could use expressions, that's bananas! Now I can segment out my video so people can skip to the relevant part, thanks! Thank you for giving back!
Alex bro you are awesome, because of you I am able to learn so many new things in davinci resolve, thank you very much, by the way i am watching your videos from Mumbai INDIA. Thanks to you once again you are a great teacher. I love your videos.
Simple is fast, thank you for the tutorial 👍👍
Another beneficial and effective video from my guuuuy always hereeeee
I like your stuff! Sadi got me watching you - great work!
Thank you John appreciate it! Right back at you too 🙂👍
Once again, thank you very much (from France!)
My pleasure!
Usefull and well explained! Thanks a lot :)
you are an expert , thank you for sharing
Great video, thank you! 👍
Very cool progress bar effect! Can see a lot of uses for something like this.
Cheers dude! I've only recently got into the expressions but there's a whole lot you can do with them. Bounce animations, perpetual movement, Ease In and Outs etc etc all without keyframes and just using expressions. The math is hard to grasp but i've written a few really cool ones so far. You know probably know all this already but its new for me so I'm having some fun 😆
@@MrAlexTech I love expressions and use them a bunch for tool animations, but whenever I try to teach them on my channel, people fall asleep. You did a great job of keeping it simple and explaining it in a way that keeps the viewer engaged.
Excellent again!
Alex - Excellent as usual I only started using DR this year and learned most of what I know using your videos as reference, brilliant. Have a project at the moment to teach various systems at work (Complex multi Satellite Antenna Systems), had fun messing with progress bars for chronological sequences, nice! My only observation was that the progress bars started at 1% and really ended on 101%. Easy fix is to use floor() instead of ceil() in the text expression ie:" Handover:
Thanks, Bro for the one-time fix
MrAlexTech, I just made a countdown circle using an Ellipse, untick solid, bump border width and your expression video. 1-(time/comp.RenderEnd) expression. I only know how to the outside border. I'd love to see how to a full arm sweep of circle could be done. Thanks for all your great, generous work.
Can't thank you enough for this.
Great stuff
very good my friend!!!
Yes, Yes, Yes! Great Video! TOP!
again :) expressions tutorial
thank you very helpful
i love it thank you
That was a great video and one of the first I watched on Resolve/Fusion.
I found that there is a better way to get X that will always render correctly even if you stretch/zoom/move your component around: 0.5 + (1/(comp.RenderEnd-comp.RenderStart) * time).
Thank you sir
Love your vids! Thanks so much for sharing all of this. Random question - for the zooms on your screen recordings - do you add those in post?
You're Legend mate 👍
Thanks dude! 😎👍
thank you.
very useful
Great tutorial! Can you please, explain how to add ease in/out to this bar via expression?
Thanks Alex!!
i thank you very mutch❤👍😊
Great job as usual! Can you cover how to edit 360 footage into a normal timeline?
Make sure to do this before inserting the loading/progress bar ANYWHERE:
Step 1: Insert the clip at the very top if you wish to see it in all video clips
Step 2: When inserting the clip change the clip duration to however long you would like it to be (For example the duration of your video)
Step 3: If you wish the bar to be at a certain point when it is first seen you will need to crop it, but before you do, if you don't want it to affect the start and endpoints of the bar follow Step 4
Step 4: Right-click on the progress bar in your project then hover over "Render Cache Fusion Output" and switch it to off
I hope this helps some of you! it took me hours today to figure this out, so hopefully, it saves everyone else's time!
This video is fantastic! How can I choose the range of numbers, for example from 40 to 100?
Fantastic tutorial! I will be using these in my track-day videos to indicate how long before the next passing zone. Where would a person find a list of all of the Fusion objects and properties like Composition.TimeEnd?
Perfect!
It was my next question after your previous video, how I could create progress bar.
Easy to follow video and totally made sense, it always amazes me How is this software free?
thanks for a great video, easy to follow and I've created my first progress bar. Legend 🙏. Question regarding saving it on a Mac. When I get to Templates folder there is no Edit folder. Any hints?
Hi Alex. Fantastic channel. Learning a lot. Tks. I have a question: and if I need a progress bar that it’s not 100%. I need to show a 85% conclusion of anything, for instance. How can I do that?
Great stuff, thank you. How would I count down from 100% in reverse?
Hi Alex really enjoying your tutorials having just downloaded Davinci. Is it possible to save the progress bar as explained at the end of video into my external hard drive?
the best
FANTASTIC Alex. Thank you so much. I`m a Complete Noob Mate and youre helping me enourmously. Can I ask a little favour as I have an idea to level this up but dont know how to do it... Can there be like an image that reveals the progress bar? Runs infront of it! Like a snail leaving a trail... It would be absolutely amazing if you could help... Massive shout out to you when I get my channel up for sure ...Thank you... Chris
great video again. do you know the way to show the progress number always as 2-digit, e.g. 01, 02, etc? this would prevent or reduce the jumping of the word "Progress" fom 9 to 10. cheers
Hi Alex,,
This tutorial is really help full.
Did you know how to hold the result after the end of the bar for a couple of second?
Just to show the result...
Hope you can make the keyframe version of the fly-through text!!
Make a vid on how to use icons
You are "The One". I'm going to start referring to you as "Neo".
Awesome tutorials mate, would you mind sharing how can I control animation duration of the counter (lets say I want it to last 3 seconds) with the code:
Text ("First Word " .. floor(time^2*100/comp.RenderEnd^2) .. " Last Word")
Hay, already hyped because of another tutorial! But I asked u a question under ur Last Video, may u read and answer please?
Greetings from Germany ;)
Hi Alex, thank you for this. I wanted to know how we can create a system or library that we can re use such fusion components or settings in new or other videos?
Hi Alex,
Great video using expressions, I was just wondering could you change the colour from red to green when the bar has got to 100%? If so, how would you go about doing it because I have tried using a mask, the mask layer doesn't work, affects the whole thing rather than one point in time.
Hi Alex, very helpful series about expressions! Do you know how to manipulate the "Text.Write On.Start" value using expressions? If you enter a formula in the "Write On" expression field, it always refers to the "End" value. Thanks in advance. Greetings from Germany, Stefan
Thank you very much for this Tutorial. I have one Question: Is it possible to save the settings as a preset but if i want for example not the word "Progress" to easily edit this settings without do all the steps again to create a new macro?
Hi
Just quick question
Can you please explain me why the waveform , scoops e.t.c doesn’t appear when i click on the video that i want to color grading .I just installed it on a new computer .thanks in advance
Great guide, thanks! Why wouldn't you just save the progress bar in Power Bins instead a macro? Then you can still edit it in fusuion after - changing the bar color for example...
Hi Alex, first of all I want to thank you for the excellent video.
I'm having problems saving the program in the generators past, the system says that it is not possible to save and says that I need to contact an administrator, do you know how to solve this problem so that I can save the project insid davinci ? thaks to the attention and have a nice day
Please teach me how to make snow and rain. Thank you
How can you create video at such a fast rate!! Maan, did you automate the whole thing.
Haha I'm a robot! But shhhhh 😆
@@MrAlexTech Must be corona beer..lol
Привет у меня есть вопрос. Как должно быть написано выражение для параметра center в узле трансформации, я хочу, чтобы ось y начала двигаться с y=0,0 в нулевом кадре и остановилась на y=0,5 на кадре 30
Could you do a tutorial about a clock/timer expression, with start and end times? Example would be say a time lapse of a construction site that started at 07:30 but finished at 17:30 so the expression timer/clock must start and finish at those time.
Please help if you can. I added the progress bar to the middle of a video but the frames are in the negative so the progress bar starts at -45% then hits 0 then completes at 100%
Thanks for another great tutorial. Really appreciate your work.
I only have one question about the text when stretching the time of the composition. I've made a countdown timer using your expressions but instead of the bar I've made a circle as the background with an animated ellipse around it. The animation works perfectly when used only as it is made. But when I stretch the time of the composition on the timeline the text gets masked/deleted on the sides, but only at certain timestamps. Is this something anyone else here has noticed?
Hey mate. Awesome tutorial, but the numbers on my bar are jumping back and forth as the Progress bars goes on. Do you know whats causes this? Thanks in Advance :)
That's great but do you notice that the percentage numbers are changing the position of the "progress" word? Do you know how to make the percentage numbers movements not altering the position of the word "progress"?
the only thing i have problem, i coundt save it on my macbook pro. after application/ davinci resolve/ is documents
Noob question. What's the easiest way to hold that last frame (100%) if that's not the end of the video?
Hey Alex nice video. The word "Progress" until 100% can we have the word at 100% complete just wanted to know
