The reason trucks have dual wheels is that each tire can only carry so much weight so when doubled up the truck can carry more weight. The axles that go up and down on a tractor trailer or dump truck are raised when the truck is not carrying weight and then drop down using air bags when the truck carries enough weight to need the extra axle. Having a fully on a pick up truck would help with that payload, it will also be more stable when your hauling a RV or something like that, and trucks that have the wheels that lift up and down usually is for dump trucks, garbage trucks have it so you don't break the frame
