This makes me grateful (never thought I would say it) for my toilet ...man...that is rough
I lived like this in my country, and the only who can change this is us. Believe me. No government will do it. We have to unite and do it. Put all men together and do it. Since I stopped being lazy my life has changed completely.

I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this, but why don't they do something about this? Ancient Romans, Babylonians, mayans, and so many more ancient civilizations have figured out how to build city wide plumbing, and irrigation systems, along with ways to grow food. And that's without the knowledge of today! I know they don't have the stuff to do it, but if the ancient peoples could do it, why can't they? No hate I'm just confused.

Thats a good question i visited there last year with a fellow employee who is from there...gorgeous country but the slums....horrible..i couldnt stay for a few minutes without getting sick....and i was even offered a daughter in marriage....lol weird

It was millions of hands that threw trash on the ground & it should be millions of HANDS TO PICK IT UP.
I moved to a new place once, left my broom & vacuum at my old place. I spilled a bag of microwavable popcorn on the carpet so I had to take the SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME TO PICK UP EACH PIECE.
I DON'T KNOW HOW HARD OR EASY IT WOULD BE FOR ALOT OF PEOPLE IN THAT COMMUNITY TO GET TOGETHER, ORGANIZE CLEAN UP CREWS & CLEAN UP & NEITHER DO YOU.
I'M TALKING ABOUT CLEANING UP NOT BUILDING SKYSCRAPERS.

These people complain the whole video about their surroundings they create and always want someone else to fix it for them. These people are lazy af. Simple solution any 10 year old could think of, collect trash in a central location, have villagers take it away a few miles and bury it or burn it. As far as toilets, either create a small hole each time you defecate or create a sewer system like people figured out how to do thousands of years ago. Like seriously even a child could understand you don't put a toilet that empties into the water you use to bathe and drink.

Besides the, "these people" part...I would have to agree. As humans we haven't always had modern sewage systems. They use holes in the ground as it is so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to just dig a hole at the start of the day to use for the day and cover it at night. And I agree, throwing trash where their children play makes no sense. I've seen American tent cities where they organized themselves and have a person for every job. They lived outside but kept in clean with no running water or electricity. They had a central area for trash which was carried away every night.

Seriously i have always felt that indoor plumbing is the single most greatest invention ever. Nothing else comes close 4 me(except maybe utube:)). Would go mad if i had 2 be without it. As we know, water is essential 2 life.
I've always kinda wondered with all the garbage and the problem of where does the shit go, can't there be some project to like scoop of screen and catch and collect that garbage, pile it up or bury it somewhere not right in their living/housing area possibly recycle what can be, and the shit could be used for fertilizer or to help composte the garbage so the environment isn't so damaged then maybe the ground can be more fertile and nutrient rich?
That's the first video I am watching where the caption button actually does open senseful subtitles. Though I don't know why the title lures English speakers, since the subtitles are German.

Like @1:00 that little out house thing on the river, couldn't there be like a little aqueduct built in through the ground to divert water to the little "bowl" there to be constantly flushing and pulling the contents into the drain pipe and flow down the other side of the river and a like drop/gravity toilet be set up above it rather than just a hole in the ground?
Am I the only one confused about how they do not have simple composing toilets? Why would they let it run into an open sewer stream? I understand they do not have the same education that we do but this is stuff people have been doing for 1000's of years. Maybe I simply do not understand.

All they have to do is to dig a big hole in the ground and defecate in it. Once it fills up it gets covered with dirt. That's all it needs to be done. It's not difficult and it doesn't cost anything. But they just don't know that there is also this option.

I just can't over the ignorant comments. None of you have any idea what it's like growing up with that kind of poverty (neither do I). These people struggle to find proper toilets, suitable living conditions, ways to feed their families, clean water to drink, bathe in, and wash their clothing in, avoiding diseases that they can't afford medicine or treatment for, and these people are criticizing them for not having proper bathrooms and not keeping their villages clean. Where do you expect them to put their waste and garbage?? Their is not city run sanitation. They aren't even provided with basic necessities needed to live and survive. Maybe before people judge and throw stones they should go and experience what these poor people must live with.

This is a very general comment. As an Australian who has visited India many times there is great divide between rich and poor. The places I stayed in were amazing. Mumbai, Bangalore, Udapuir etc are modern. Rural areas such as Kerala and Ooty are naturally beautiful. India has well over 100 billionaires living in the country. Mumbai has the worlds first billion dollar house just a short drive from Dharavi, Asia's biggest slum. There is a growing middle class of educated Indians who are living pretty well.

Favelas and slums are not all created equally. Almost all of the Brazilian favelas have normal toilets and showers as well as electricity and internet. They are luxurious compared to African, Indian, and middle east slums.

This channel has many stories about the slums of Africa and South America but few stories about Asia, Europe, the Middle East or North America. These other continents aren't exempt from the problems described in this video. Why not tell the stories of their slums?

How are they not to blame? They live in their own waste. You can't always rely on a government. And don't come at me with they are poor or don't know any better, poor people figure out how to make toilets and sewage systems centuries ago not to mention trash collection. This is like a village of little children that pretend to not know better, but as interviews show they do know better, but are just too lazy to do anything about it.
You can't just empty out a continent. People have to improve the environment in which they live in. It is not fair to other countries to expect them to support citizens in countries not their own.
