    Gents, your video was very useful in my leaf spring replacement. Your comments about the front shackel bolts was dead on, mine were both frozen. It took me cutting the bolts at both of the access points. I am not a salesman but the Diablo blades worked well in cutting through the bolts. Tomorrow is installation day. Mucho Gracias.

    This reminds me and my brother doing the springs on our 69 Camaro. Previous owner had installed Hurst air shocks to make up for weak springs and had them fully inflated, which meant that he kept breaking the lower retaining plates on the springs, to which the shocks were mounted. Had one heck of a time getting the springs off since the rear shackle bolts were rusted solid to the shackles. Glad to see that safety was mentioned here since the car and axle must be properly supported and the load removed from the springs before removing them. Good video!

    Two thumbs up for the advice on using a tire as a safety prop. If it's there and off, use it for something.

    Thanks! This video is the perfect tutorial. I just finished installing new leaf springs and shocks on my 1965 Mustang Coupe. Your video gave me the exact step-by-step I needed. Made for a very satisfying weekend project. Thanks so much for producing the video!

    Very helpful video that inspired me to order Detroit Eaton rear spring's for my '66. Install went easily until I set the axle on the springs... Manufacturer used 1/4" high locating pins rather than the 1/2" high originals, and the axle wouldn't locate as a consequence. Re-re-re-checked that I ordered the correct springs and I did per the NPD listing and Eaton Detroit reference chart. Disappointing as I could have had this all done in one afternoon. Now I need to fuss around to get new pins or swap out the springs entirely...

    I had a hell of a time getting my old air shocks and springs off lol. I shoulda used a sawzall but I used a cutting wheel instead. It worked but I did make a few knicks in the frame rail that I'll have to fix. Good episode Jeff.

    It was a littl hard to show and see but there are pins on the springs and holes on the plates. Also the clamps will align the rear axle since they sit snug against the welded plates.

    Dont know if this is too late or not, however what I found worked to get the front bolt out is take a punch and hammer it to the point where its inside of the spring hole, then take a original U bolt and hammer the rest of the way out.

    Lawrence, We plan on doing some sways and discs soon and do some dynamic testing with them. We understand the MSD Atomic is really good and easy to tune. We were selling shirts but the response was undewhelming. If there are enough requests we will bring them back. As for giveaways we are doing a deal with NPD for t-shirt giveaways on Facebook. Like us there and be kept up with all the happenings...

    Want to know something REALLY weird? Our '69 Fairlane is low on the drivers side... Look at your rubber isolators (if you didn't replace them). Our drivers side rubber is pretty beat up and we're pretty sure that is our problem. We'd look at taking measurements from the rear torque box to the rear spring mount on the frame. If both sides are +/- 1/8 inch they are in tolerance and you need to look at other possibilities. email us at our web site in the about bar.

  • @jeepdad

    Good video. Is there any room within the alignment pins/holes to nudge the axle left or right to "center" it? The rear wheels on my '66 coupe stick out 1/2" more on the passenger side. I am wondering if there is enough play there so I can loosen the bolts and push the axle 1/4" toward the driver's side to compensate.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  3 роки тому

      Yeah, Not sure if you can recover the full 1/4 inch, but you can center it better.

  • @artbitron13

    I wish you would have placed the new leaf spring and old leaf spring together to compare/contrast the difference AND I wish you would have documented the Mustang's height before and after the swapping the springs. Did the new spring(s) have greater arch AND did the new springs give the car a lift? One would think so but confirmation would have been nice.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  5 років тому

      Art, the springs on the car were worn out to the point of extension shackles being placed on them by a previous owner so by comparison they would have been longer. I don't really see the need in documenting the height since our goal was a stock ride height which was achieved by the new springs. Eaton Detroit can give you a certain ride height, you just need to contact them: (313) 963-3839 or www.eatondetroitspring.com/

    Hello Jeff I have question? My son has 98 ford ranger and we changed the rear leaf spring because one had broken. After doing so the ranger now bounce like crazy. We also replaced all shock on the ranger and front and back. Do you have any suggests to how I can correct this problem.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  9 років тому

      Did you replace just one or both? When you ordered the springs did you make sure that the application was the same as your truck? It sounds like the spring rate may be a bit higher. Also what shocks did you use? You can e-mail Jeff direct at: jford@autorestomod.com so we can get you sorted out!

    Jeff
    Just bought a set of new leafs from Mike. I was wondering if you would have had your four post when you did this install if you could have left the tires on and not jacked the axel. Just jack the frame rails. Let the axel rest on the tires below the body on the lift? About to tear mine out on Friday and don’t see a reason to remove the tires if they can hold the axel in place on the lift. Any thoughts on that ?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  3 роки тому

      The tires get in the way of removing the outer two bolts on some wheel tire combos. I used the jacking bridge that Wildfire sells to pick the axle up off of the springs when I was setting the rear end up for center on the chassis.

    • @jethroclampett966
      @jethroclampett966 3 роки тому

      @@AutoRestoMod thanks. I can reach all the bolts and have no obstruction. I may give it a whirl for shits and giggles. Gonna just use my rolling jack to lift the frame rails. And set my underhoist jack under the pumpkin but I don’t see the axel going anywhere if it’s still attached to the wheels.

  • @subron6er

    if i want to change over from mono to multi leaf and order all the parts, is there any welding on the axel that need to be done. I had read the multi leaf are wider and require diff. parts for the change over. Thanks allot, the hardest thing i did on my 69 Camaro tear down so far was remove the old mono leafs and the rear end. thanks Jeff

    I'm replacing the leaf springs on my 67 Cougar. The muffler is sitting about 1/4 inch too close to the frame so getting the front bolt out is quite challenging. I don't have a clue how I'll get it back in that way. Would I be able to reverse the direction of the bolt instead and just insert it from the other side? Every video and instruction says to put it back is it was. Is there any particular reason?

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  8 років тому

      +Topher7527 Not sure that the bolt will go back in from the other direction. You might do better dropping the exhaust and attacking it that way.

    Installed new leaf springs on my 1969 Fairlane 2-door due to the factory ones being shot and making the car lean to one side. New springs are doing the same thing; passenger side 1.5 higher than driver's side. Can't seem to figure this one out; must have a bent... something somewhere? Both new springs were identical to each other as is the installation on both sides... switching spring sides makes no since but that's all I have left to try.

      Thank you, do you think for aftermarket 18inch tires, it will fill the rear end wheel well nicely or does it need to be lowered or raised in the back? Because I heard that they came from the factory with the rear riding low.

The 18-inch wheels will work but you have to be real particular with offset. williamflybill,
    There are locating pins on the springs, and alignment holes in the bottom plates.
    zaraak323i,
    Have you ever heard the expression "Dago rake"?....It was a fad of years gone by,I don't know why but, guys in California did this to give their ride a hiked up rear look,apparently in the San Diego area.

      Well Jenifer if it WERE a hair piece I would whip that sucker at the camera every once in a while. We're a little different now in our delivery, we still have fun, but we do less bit pieces. Oh and the date on this episode is 2013. Five years ago as of 2018; we listened to requests like yours and made our lives easier and now do a bit less set comedy. Funny thing is, I still have a full head of hair too. Well, most of it. I lost some pulling it out trying to make weekly videos...
