- With Batman v Superman (and its bad reviews) looming, we thought it a good idea to go back and look for sins in the earlier, Burton Batman films. And we found some.... a LOT, actually.

Danny Devito was an excellent choice to fit the role for the Penguin.
He's also a really nice guy from what I've heard. I worked on Batman Returns but never got to meet him.
Heard a couple of different stories about him, on one day the extras has already gone past their fifth "Meal penalty" (you get paid more if you don't eat after five hours but most extras would rather just have lunch than get a meal penalty). Danny demanded that the extras be fed or he was going to walk off the set. On another day he had a food fight with the extras - wish I could have been there. I showed up the next day and saw eggs and tomatoes smeared all over the wall and was like "what the hell happened here" and the other extras said "oh, we had a food fight with Danny Devito".
I agree with that. He played this character very well for the ambiance of a dark film. I wouldn't call it acting at its finest, but it was good. I say, it's worth a "C+" or "B-".

You forgot to sin the part where Batman takes off his cowl and all of the sudden has ZERO eye make-up.
Every character with a secret identity on Arrow And The Flash do this as well. It bothers me because they clearly have makeup around their eyes with masks or hoods on, but it disappears when they take them off or down and vice versa.

@@ricktheitalianrebel6687 in the movies Batman's suit is mentioned as a rubber suit but in reality it's made of latex. The hoods, chest armor, legs & vice versa. That's why he was able to rip it so easily. Rubber would take a lot more strength to rip, whereas latex is more tearable.

honestly I liked Shrek better when he was an Ogre. He had such depth to his character, layers even.

About the dollhouse, I believe she was destroying her one childhood item that kept her sane,calm and collected but at that point she was already going insane which caused her to lose her innocence and sanity therefore resulting as Catwoman. I also think she had a dream of living the perfect life as she probbaly dreamed about when she was young.
My bad this is late but this movie has some things that don’t make sense but overall it’s a good dark story and there’s tons of little details like that, that the average person is going to miss, imo this is the 3rd best batman movie behind the Batman and the dark knight, also the reason Bruce was so “dark” and depressed and had little motivation this movie was because what happened with Vicky

It's basic but I like the imagery that Bruce and Selina are the masks worn by Batman & Catwoman at a Masquerade Ball.

1 - Most of the movie scènes are nocturnal, the night is Batman's world.
2 - Gotham City's architecture wich is exactly what it should be, a 30's 40's fantasy city, like an over the top Chicago.
3 - Best Catwoman ever.
4 - Irreplaceable musics (sorry Hans).
5- Magnificient photography.

I think we can remove a couple of Sins for misunderstanding the plot of Penguin's life before the film. It's pretty clear that baby Penguin was rescued from the sewers by someone from the Circus - it's noted that he was the Bird Boy. That's where he would have learned English and how to read and write.
Anyhow,... despite every Sin, I love this movie!

@@laratropp8832, it’s why I don’t love TDK trilogy as much as others. It doesn’t feel like a comic book movie because Nolan made the movie too realistic by making lawyers and police officers more important than Batman. Well, TDK and TDKR at least.

Despite the flaws, this is still one of my favorite batman movies. I just have to forget most things wrong with it, but the great atmosphere and style negates a lot of things wrong with it.

I had a few.
1) In 8th grade, my English teacher was terrible. A girl could hand in an assignment late because she understood what they were going through, she marked me down because I had to type rather than write my test answers once because I injured my hand to the point I couldn't physically hold a pen and could only type left handed. (10 points off because it had to be written, but girl hands in assignment late, no points off.)
Also, side note that is minor. My grandmother was an American Citizen that grew up in Canada and so she used Canadian spelling for some words. I grew up in the US, but she often was there when I came home and helped me with my homework). So, I picked up spelling for some words that aren't the American way, I got points taken off for "Spelling errors." I think it was just more crap from her to be honest.
But the way I was treated in that class and another English Teacher in High School killed any desire I had to write anything.
2) I had an art teacher in 9th grade that always complain about how I chose to paint paintings that we had no real instructions on. We had to do a self portrait and most people did it as close to realistic as they could. I didn't want to do the assignment, but had to. So I did myself in Red Scale essentially. Various shades of red rather than more normal colors and I thought it looked cool, I loved it. She gave me a C or D for failure to follow instructions ... the instructions were literally "Paint a self portrait." Nothing on how. It was shown in the art show and classmates of mine recognized it. However, when a girl "expressed" herself it was set as an "example of how to put yourself in the painting."
She killed my desire for art. I still occasionally do something things, but they aren't even close to what I did prior just because of one teacher.
On a side note: That class is also the reason Beyonce annoys me. Hearing Destiny's Child pretty much every day drove me mad.
3) I had an argument with a co-worker that I don't like it when women tell me that I should smile because I look more handsome when I smile. Or commenting me when I get a haircut. She told me "They are just being nice." but if a fucking man said something like that ... it's sexist. I am like WTF ... I am pretty sure the reason why the sexual harassment between the sexes is more so that men don't realize they are being harassed while women consider far more things harassment.
4) Sometimes I take one of my nieces out for my sister, she has 4 kids total, 3 are girls. This past weekend I felt the eyes of a older woman just watching me with my youngest niece while we were having lunch at burger king after I took her to horse back riding for my sister. Didn't say anything, just I say her looking at me and felt I was being stared at when I left. It wasn't the first time something like this happened. Luckily, I know a lot of people who tell me that I am a great uncle for helping out my sister and that what I do for my nieces and nephew is something they wish they had when raising their kids.

For me, the ridiculousness of weaponized penguins was drowned out by the Penguin's dark characterization and the overall tone of the film.

The whole "Batman doesn't kill" wasn't cinematically established until Batman Begins.
It was out of sync with books hence why it was off-beat. Considering this he was a killer catching killers Batman was in truth the 4th villain by that logic.
Because the character used to carry even a gun in it's beginning. I hate this whole "doesn't kill" crap! And it leads to stupid scenes, like Cosplay Batman riding into a wall instead of the Joker! All people dying by the Joker after that are on you Cosplay Batman!
I think you need to check out Batman Year One first, unless you are referring to earlier example

That's the reason why I think Batman Begins is a bad movie, when you count in what the source material was and they made it worse with the stuff they altered and added. But I have to admit, some of the additions in the mid part, the transition to becomming Batman were really good.
To your second comment, I agree on that. But in the 89 movie that serves the purpose to keep him a mistery, like it did with the Joker in the Nolan movie.
a lot of clocks don't have numbers on the face because most people can remember where the numbers are on the face of a clock
As the narrator himself proves when he correctly says "so about 7 o'clock".
They can if they have to and will get faster at it in time, but still seems like a pain to me, but then I grew up wearing digital watches, lol.
It's still faster and easier just to have a simple marker for the numbers. It doesn't even need to be a number, just a marker. Also, it avoids the messiness of it being "around 15 minutes pastish" when you need to know if it's 18 minutes past or 13 minutes past.
It's a bit more difficult when the face isn't circular but true enough

Yeah, he seemed like THAT kind of boss. The kind that you want to possibly accidentally give rat poison to and kidnap with two of your friends.
Maybe she was meant to give Max the speech.
@@nedtempleton4873 The novelization makes clear that Selina wrote the speech for Max, but it was still Max's responsibility to put it in the folder. It's just that Selina was so afraid of Max she was willing to let him scapegoat her for everything, and Max knew this.

Wow, CinemaSins brought up that single bat that was in a cage in the Batcave but, it wasn't a hostage. If you check the first movie, you'll see that he cage has no bottom. The bat could leave at anytime.Take that CinemaSins.

Even as a kid I thought Penguin having the blueprints for the Batmobile was extremely illogical, sill love this movie to death tho. Also, this movie came out on my 9th birthday and I had a calendar on my wall marking its release.

She doesn't have fucking powers. She was just probably knocked out and cats lick tickled her up not joking
lmao she came back to life according to the movie. And she apprently is almost indestructible (can take gunshots and electrocution or fall massive heights) and she gains crazy acrobatic skill and martial arts after dying.
She directly alludes to have nine lives in the finale, and went from being a clumsy nitwit in the beginning to being a world-class acrobat, martial arts fighter and whip master; so yeah she has powers. You can argue if she really died though, to me they tried to imply the rags that caught her falling down so she didn't die but the massive hit(the head specially) and the trauma of the experience of being almost murdered snapped her sanity.
Well it isn't unheard of for people to have personality shifts after major head injuries, but I don't know about the new skills she gains over night, lol
I agree she doesn't have powers. She just goes batshit crazy (see what i did there?) after the attempted murder. For all we know she was an acrobatics pro as a teenager or some shit like that.
Keaton is the still best Batman to me. Affleck delivered in BvS but left me wanting to see more, hopefully in a solo Batman movie.
Longtime viewer, first time commenter. I just want to say I rewatched this movie for the first time in years yesterday and have gained a completely new perspective on the scene in which Selina becomes Catwoman, and I believe the Cinema Sinner has misunderstood the tone of the scene. Until recently, I too didn’t really understand why she would spend so much time destroying her apartment, but now I think it’s meant to imply the violation she felt when her boss, a man she is supposed to be able to trust and rely on, attempted to murder her. Not to get all Gender Studies 101 on Cinema Sins, but I believe it was meant to be comparative to sexual assault as she lived through a traumatic experience dealt to her body and destroying her apartment was a way to regain some level of control. When she realized she still felt anguish over her circumstances, she planned to exact revenge while maintaining her anonymity, and in the world of Batmen, it stands to reason she would give her avenging alter ego a bit of flair and personality. Feel free to say I’m reading too much into a potentially silly scene in an obviously very silly movie, but I think that this is part of that darker side of Batman Burton began exploring that lost him Forever and Robin.
It's def a sexual assault allegory and I didn't realize it until a few years ago and even tho I do hate that trope for the most part, I love it for Selina Kyle. She takes control of her sexuality in a dominatrix type suit and whip. This movie is so good.
I just rewatched it today and while I don't think SEXUAL assault has anything to do with it, I think she had a very near death experience thrust on her and her old infantile existence had no meaning anymore. Imagine if she had died and all that would have remained of her were pink cat sweaters, stuffed animals and a freaking doll house! She was a very late bloomer and wanted to affirm her womanhood (and sexuality) before it was too late.
I fail to see how the assault was at all sexual. Can't a boss just be a jerk and a murderer?

Pushing her out the window scene, and her revival by cats you have two all time great movie moments back to back. The comic -book origin type deal of her being transformed by the cats added a wonderful touch of magic in contrast with the gritty realism of the rest of the flick...
When I was a kid, and I have no idea why, but Penguin's death scene made me cry. Like...my parents needed to comfort me I cried so hard.
