Beautiful work. I'm hoping to build some large heavy bookshelves from scaffolding planks. I've been wondering what joints to use and I think I've decided on Tenons. Thanks for posting!
How to make tenon shelves is truly challenging. However, this makes all the shelves the strongest. I always hate those shelves on shelf pins. Thanks for this vid for which I have been looking for a quite a long time.
Love the router trick. Great explanation also. I also just read thru the other comments. Yeah video is long but it’s great! Ignore the haters. Your videos are very thoughtful and useful. Who cares about it being 45 min. Good stuff. Don’t let the naysayers crimp on your style.
This is amazing. I know you did this a while ago, but a question if you don't mind. I'm planning a smaller bookcase for kiddo's bedroom. Does the top need to be joined the way you did? I was going to try a through tenon on the top shelf only (dado the rest), but I wanted to have a half shelf on the top for toys. So the sides would go a few inches above the highest shelf, with no top on it. Will it rack if I don't put a top on it? I think it might be about 32" - 36" tall, 3 shelves total and an appropriate width. Going to use red oak 3/4". Thanks for the great video, so many ideas here
Nicely done and very well documented on video. Both project and video will sure to be family heirlooms. Thanks for sharing your work. The wood looks like it all came from the same tree as it’s color looks so even. We’re you able to purchase it that way from your supplier? Mine always has a mixed bag of goods and shopping for just the right boards is very hard.
Am I crazy or does this video feel like it starts not quite at the beginning? Like I tried to rewind a little, thinking I had fast forwarded by accident.
It likely felt that way because there was no pointless preamble. :) We jump right into making the sides. The 3D CAD that’s displayed orient you to the project.
What we are building is in the title of the video. The completed project was shown as a high resolution 3D CAD animation. Not sure why you’d need more.
@@GarageWoodworks Hey, I get it, I don’t think you need a 3 minute opening with graphics and music and a credit sequence, I don’t think anyone does. I’m just saying that this felt abrupt enough that I rewound to see what I had missed. Being that this is a 45 minute video it’s clear you’re not trying to squeeze it into 10 minutes like some people do so a brief intro to what you’re working on would not be out of place. Just as an example, you told us you were going to scrape the glue off the joints before you did it, even though it was pretty clear what you were doing. I don’t want my comments to detract from the fact that this is an excellent project with great description of all the techniques used to produce it.
Help me if you can. I haven't received any of your videos for over a year, much over a year. I saw it today through Jay's Twitter post. Have you stopped sending me posts? I did notice that I am still subscribed and the bell has been clicked on. What has happened? God Bless my friend.
For a lot of the tools used in my videos see: www.garagewoodworks.com/GW-azn.php
Thanks for the video, Brian. Great craftsmanship and a beautiful design.
Great job! Beautiful bookcase and an excellent explanation of everything you did. Looking forward to more videos.
Thank you.
Beautiful bookcase and exactly the right amount of detail in the video
Very well done. Love your commentary during the project.
Great work, look forward to seeing more 👍
deserves more views. nice piece, well done.

Really beautiful work, Brian! The bookcase looks amazing! 😃
I really liked the design!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great looking project and I love the Tool poster!
Very very nice! All the little tips will make this an easier build someday soon
You are very precise in your job and I like it. Congrats.

Very nice craftsmanship!!!!
Nice work mate. The video was filled with interesting techniques which facilitate accuracy! 👍👍👍
That technique for transferring the through-tenon to the other face with the router is pretty brilliant.
Agree! Definitely one of those things you realize after a few blowout mishaps and realize how much better it is!
Absolutely beautiful work! What kind of wood did you use?
John Jensen from British Columbia
Great video. First time I've heard it called chip out. I would bet that is a geographical thing. Fantastic job on the detailed explanations.
Thanks for the video.
Very nicely done, this is a forever piece.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Complimenti, lavoro bellissimo!!!
Grazie!
Awesome job !
Great looking bookcase! And a fine story stick at the end. Maybe why my projects aren't so perfect using rough scrap?
I couldn’t help but notice that you have quite a library in there.
Beautiful work buddy!!!

Super turnout, looks great!
Thank you!
Great project. What software was used for the 3D model?

It was all hand picked for consistent grain. It wasn’t perfect as I had a little color variation on the lower inside of one of the sides. Thank you!
Great video. What software did you use for the 3d modeling showing in the video?
Blender
You should not take so long getting into the video! Great video.
wedges in the tennon would be fancy and no glue required
Not the look I was going for. And i definitely don’t want this to be disassembled.
long time no see :)
I'm still here :)

I don't mind that the opening fluff was omitted. I tend to fast forward the openings on many videos anyway. Personal preference, I suppose.

I get it. You wanted me to reiterate that we were making a “Through Tenon Bookcase” as shown in the video title.
