Tanks Shawn. I must say, youtube videos like this have save me hundreds, maybe thousands by now. I am trained in auto mechanics, but haven`t worked on cars for decades now. I`m familiar with cars with carbs on them. Beyond that, I`m untrained. The metric switchover down here in the states has screwed things up too.
You're pretty good at filming in depth repair videos. Taking the time to talk about bolt sizes and common problems isn't easy. You did real well. Someone who needs to do the same job could watch this video and know what they need to do!
Thank you just getting ready to change my pump 02 Silverado. Leak was hard to find. Coming from pump shaft packing seal running down front down oil pan to back of engine then down crewmembers. Thank you, this was a great help of explanation and direction. Great video..
On mine the bearing came apart, Fan and pulley fell off ! First time i have seen that happen. Those clamp remover pliers are worth there weight in gold, i love em. My original pump lasted 175,000 miles, Well made pump !
Cool vid. I build those pumps at work and get them from a couple of supplers. You meantioned you change them out at work so this info will help you. There's a major casting company that has issues with their castings on this pump, one of the spots is the mounting surface. The gasket in the video, you need to test fit it with the bolts in the casting for proper alignment to make sure the silicone is over the metal casting and NOT halfway over the metal casting which will eventually fail. If this is happening you need to switch to a regular gasket. Hope the A/C works.
Ive never had a spring clamp leak after I take them off and back on. Channel locks works great but the have a tool for them that lovks them open in the tool has a wire thing. I hate those clutch fans can be a pain to get off. I swapped mine to and put a flex fan in because it would over heat in the winter with my plow on and in the summer at idle with Air on.
not good! that thing running regular green antifreeze in it, that's why it was leaking. it's supposed to be Dexcool in that thing otherwise the seals will all leak before you know it. Trust me that's why i had to have my intake gaskets replaced in my tahoe when i did , the glycerine in the green anti freeze eats the gaskets. hope you didn't refill it with the green stuff again or you'll be doing it again soon. if you're lucky it'll just be the pump.
well after the expense of having to replace the intake gaskets on mine because the idiot that had it before me put the green stuff in i learned really quick when it says Dexcool that's what you use , the intake runners and the old gaskets were all runny and pitted from using the wrong thing in it and i was kinda of the mindset antifreeze is antifreeze until the GM mechanic i paid to replace the intake gaskets showed me the difference now it may cost more but i use the red stuff exclusively.
The only difference in the red and green is dexicool is environmental friendly. The green is not. You can run either just do a flush before using the green.

1fanger Everything has gone computers now so people cant work on there cars anymore. kind of sad but that's the way things are moving too
That's one of the best quality gaskets I've seen for a water pump probably ever.
paradoxdesigns Yes its a lot better then a lot of them

Thanks for the video. About to replace a water pump on a 6.0 Trailblazer SS. Always like to do a little research before doing a job.

***** Hummmm I should have looked at it, I think I did. think we ran into that before
I wouldn't dought it. The company is a major supplier for auto zone, o'reilys, and advance auto. There's probable thousands of those out there, LOL.
Watch your vid, it shows the gasket on there kinda with one bolt through it.That's what made me think of it.
Did my 2001 Dodge a couple of months ago . . . funny how similar it is to your GMC. Mine had a leak in the same area, design was a flat gasket.
Excellent video Shawn!
Todd Weller Tanks

What brand pump did you put in?

what's a vortex? i think it may be the rotational center of a tornado or something.
i've heard of a vortec though. GM made them
I smashed my fingers one time with the fan tool. I hit it too hard and it flew off.
Antisieze, antieze, antisieze. Will make your life much easier if used on the bolts, and fan hub threads if you ever have to do this again.
kbert63 very true
Done a few months ago
I use copper coat to glue gaskets.
