- SCP 1655 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as Sorrow Tick.
SCP-1655 is a small arachnid of the order Ixodida, bearing a strong resemblance to the common tick.
SCP1655 is extremely aggressive, and will attempt to latch onto and bite any mammal with which it comes into contact.
Any living being the affected subject held any degree of affection for will immediately lose all memory of the subject's existence and will be unable to acquire any new memories concerning him/her/it.

what happened if two people have been bitten by the tick ? can they both form bonds but will instantly forget about each other ? would it cancel out ? would it go away once they forget about the other person ? would it be one sided forever ?

Ok we all know the foundation’s mantra, “cold, not cruel”. Well that part with the kitten was just cruel. They could’ve still fed the poor thing.
Honestly, cat may not have noticed it, but they did and could've fed it. Granted they'd probably get affectionate with it too and forget all about it, but could've had a lot of d class or other doctors feed it once that happened and one person monitoring the interaction.

As somebody who has had lyme disease diagnosed around 3 times, I damn all ticks to die a horrible death...
I've been sick with Lyme disease since I was about 7, it's a nasty nasty disease. My life sucks. We need to proclaim war on ticks.

@@cheborneck4828 meat allergies, or more accurately allergies to non-primate mammalian meat allergies, are caused by lone star ticks, not Lyme disease. Lone star ticks have a protein in their saliva similar to a common protein in mammalian muscle tissue, and as your immune system develops a response to the tick protein it will also trigger an immune response to meat.
Lone star ticks don't generally transmit Lyme disease though, so there's that. The main culprits are deer ticks in North America and the castor bean tick in Europe.

@@rin2759 The moment it came to like any researcher that fed it they would have failed to feed to keep it alive anyway. It would have just been a much slower, and much more painful death for the kitten as everyone and everything that seemed nice suddenly stopped paying attention to it. In all honesty, it's only way out was death.

Wow, not only is this one of the crueler experiments I've seen from them (kinda feel sorry for the D class, despite whatever they did to end up as one) but this fills me with a similar level of existential terror as the story of the false hydra (not a SCP, to my knowledge)
What was he arrested for? He’s at his own home, the wife’s not claiming he abused her since she doesn’t know he exists, and the police don’t just arrest you for being loud. So what was he arrested for? Small details like that actually matter.

So did they just not test if squishing it would have some kind of effect? If the tick is the source, not the microbe in its spit like with actual Lyme disease, couldn't you at least try to give these people their lives back? How heartless can the SCP Foundation truly be that it can't or won't recognize that protecting humanity is also, by definition, protecting love and connection.
They only have 1 sample of 1655 so they can't destroy it yet. If they find another sample, that will be a test for sure.

A rule of the scp foundation is that they do not attempt neutralization of an scp object without thorough proof the scp is a threat to humanity. Regardless of how potentially threatening an object may be. Even then the bodycount usually has to be significant. Take for example SCP 4975 Time’s Up. It has shown no desires or goals beyond terrorizing then killing human beings, however the scp foundation doesn’t see one or two unstoppable deaths a year as significant enough to call for neutralization.
However the Global Occult Coalition is a group in the verse that fully agrees with you and seeks the destruction of all harmful anomalies.
@@plague3038 scp foundation will destroy SCPs if a surplus amount of them causes containment issues. They wont wipe out an scp entirely besides 682, but if it multiplies, they'll act like a farm and keep a certain amount of them and get rid of the rest.

For the foundation is inherently crue that have no right to uphold a fake normalcy. Any violence made in name of normalcy is cruel.
This SCP would have made more sense if instead of brainwashing loved ones of it's victims, it makes it's victims forget about their loved ones.
It wouldn't have any effect on me either way.

Ethics committee is trash, they are low rank foundation personnel. 05s, administration and Many lvl 4, 5 and 6 personnel are higher rank than they, and example Gru didn't have ETC, so why should foundation have.

Unfortunately I highly doubt it would have any lasting effect. It seems like anything that happens to reptile just can't permanently affect it. The reptile may die over and over(assuming the dog can even kill it in the first place) but the reptile would eventually accidently kill the dog or permanently ignore it ( I don't know what the dog scp does specifically)

I love insects, but the one bug I absolutely CANNOT stand are ticks. I have panic attacks whenever I see one, let alone have one on me. I’ll gladly pick up a beetle or caterpillar or cricket or whatever, but ticks, I hate them with all my life and they should all die

honestly that intro talks about venomous spiders better than most "animal" channels, love seeing not only an enjoyable scp animation but accurate facts about highly misunderstood animals
The fact that the foundation let a poor, defenseless kitten starve instead of feeding it themselves is just needlessly cruel.
I absolutely HATE the idea of getting bit by ANYTHING, and thats one of the reasons I don’t go out into nature.
Two things: where on the food chain does this tic fit in? Does it have any natural predators? If so what would they look like.

The first thought is to exterminate the species but the anomalous effects might be useful in dealing with other SCPs where love and affection could be deadly.
Just watching this video made me feel so ... uncomfortable, the thought of people that loved you just forget who you are like you don't exist is so terrifying.

I hate ticks. Effects from just regular ones can be as mild to making you horrendously allergic to red meat all the way to causing serious damage to your joints, heart, brain, and nervous system. They're the worst. 😫

What happens if you kill it? From what I gathered in the video, it binds a telepathic connection with the victim, causing anyone who was emotionally attached to the victim to lose all memory of the victim, and ability to acknowledge the victim’s presence is lost too, but if you kill the tick, the telepathic connection would, logically, be broken, would they get their memories back, would it be like nothing had happened, or would the effects last forever, even if it’s killed?
in my opinion, id say that 1655's effects would likely stop evolving upon death meaning that if the instance is killed new connections could be made without the threat of anomalous response as well as the nature of this psychic ability not actually being permanent means that along with the instances death connections can be re-established. BUT, the response the loved ones have to affected individuals should have a new effect, while this condition can be cured it means that the disgust reaction now plays a bigger role as if the individual's thinking falls more in line with what SCP-1655 wants to accomplish then the effect on them is more likely to be permanent. this means if you love someone that hates you then there is no way to recover that social connection and if you constantly illicit the disgust response from your loved one then the likelihood of the effects being permanent increases as they can technically see you it's just that their mind is being forced to not perceive you thus the disgust is attributed to you. this also would mean that once the effects are permanent and the related SCP-1655 instance is terminated the disgust response would no longer occur as said response is meant purely to elicit negative emotions from the victim
There is one issue with that though, there's no telling quite what would happen when killing an instance of it, would it result in everyone in a radius around it becoming overwhelmed with sorrow and other negative emotions perhaps? Lots of things that can go wrong.
@@Darca1n i mean no original thing makes no mention of such phenomenon as they are aware of the effects persisting after the SCP's death and have likely killed some so if such a great effect was to be the case they'd probably have known and in the SCP description.
also, that doesn't really hold much relevance to my comment as my comment has more to do with the primary effects it has on people as given my stance/desire for the SCP's function this death wail would be temporary as it wouldn't serve any purpose to the SCP and would be more of a panic response born from them simply having their abilities cus if they used this ability they'd likely also have died and thus it provides no evolutionary advantage

btw ticks actually don’t use a needle like appendage they instead use two rough appendages to carve into the skin until it hits a blood vessel which then pools into the carved hole and slurp it up from there

The guard that punched D-236 and looked angry deserves to get infected by the ticks. Why does he have the gall to act angry? Dude has no right to make that expression when the test subject was in distress. Toss that worthless guard into the lizard's cell, even. As horrifying as this SCP is.. I still have a mad respect for insects, specifically arachnids. I've always been fascinated by insects and have respected the species of the world either from a distance or up close. I try my best to move bugs instead of killing them

I'm assuming that since the tick is literally consuming these memories and emotions then they're just gone forever but is the SCP Foundation really gonna pass up the chance to kill something in the name of research and potentially saving these people?
the scp foundation is gonna keep it because it could make good amnestics to make people forget about certain scps, like the sealed king, who gains power from people that know of its existence, and influences those people to tell other people about it
It's definately an experiment that can be performed, once the foundation has more instances of it contained. They won't try it as long as they have just the one, or a few

I kinda feel like the whole story would make more sense if it was the other way around. If the victim was drained of their love and affection for others and would just not care, the whole telepathic part about influencing everyone the victim ever meets wouldn’t be so vague.

The video was good, but I was deeply unimpressed by this SCP. It's just too ridiculous. It can affect everyone who knows the subject? No matter the range? The effect is fully persistent across every living subject forever? This power is at a level that I'd have a hard time accepting in even an extremely powerful reality warper, much less a tiny insect. It doesn't feel consistent with the rest of the SCP universe to me. I just don't like it.
