Anyone who actually read the books would realize that Leto 2 was the hero for saving mankind . If anyone were the villian , Jessica is easily my pick for what she did and didn't do to Alia alone
I wouldn’t say that there are any heroes in Dune; rather, they are imperfect human rulers who make the best choices they possibly can under harsh and unimaginable conditions. That said, I agree that Jessica was a trash mother for leaving Alia in the lurch like she did.
I agree that neither Paul or Leto II are villains in exact terms. The Muadib Jihad was inevitable according to the first book whether Paul lived or died, even the means of his death was irrelevant at that stage. This is the true message of what Paul saw. Despite the absolute carnage and destruction across the Dune universe. Paul was attempting to guide the Muadib Jihad with as few deaths and as little destruction as possible. My question is how does that make him the villains? Leto II is born into the circumstances seeing the same permutations as Paul.
Leto II Was humanity's saviour. What he did was what his prescience showed him was the only path for humans to escape extinction. Leto II accepted the responsibility, Paul couldn't bear it (that story was called Dune: Mesaiha).
Paul sees all possible futures, his goal is to ensure the survival of the human specie on the long run. When he refuses to do what needs to be done, he finally lets his son Leto II take up that enormous responsability. How could ensuring the survival of humans be described as "evil"?? Same for the Bene Gesserit: they 're the Jedis of Dune Universe, they're not vilains either. The Atreides and the Bene Gesserit have disagreements, but they all want whats 'best for humanity. Only The Bene Tleilax could be classified as vilains of the Dune Universe, because of their hardcore misogyny, their xenophobia and their religious fanatism. Them and of course the hidden "Great enemy of humanity" that Frank Herbert never got the time to describe.
The video seems to omit the facts that Paul and his mother were also under threat of death from the Harkonnen/Imperial alliance ... and that they did what they did early on with the Fremen ... to safeguard their own lives. Later on, Paul advanced on "The Golden Path" based upon his prescient knowledge that this path is the only one which would lead to the ultimate survival of the human race. Even knowing this, and having advanced upon it to some degree, Paul later deserts the path, due to its great cost in human lives. Of course, it is true that his son Leto takes up the path soon after Paul deserts it. What I've concluded from my experience of Dune to-date is that it is a story of the moral quandry of making decision for people, even when you know that those decisions make for the best possible future. If you believe that Paul was right about what he foresaw, many more would die.
I would never call Paul a hero, but he wasn't really a villain either. At least at first. He was initially far better than some of the antagonists like the Harkonens, but over time he goes downhill and becomes something along the lines of a tragic supervillain.
I think there are marketing people who are trying to change the story to fit what Villanueve did with his changes to the story and I refuse to buy into this crap. The new movies are much better than the TV Miniseries but there are too many changes that do change the story though I'm not sure the writer gets that. Chani new in advance that Paul would marry Irulan, it was explained to her why it had to be and that Paul would never touch her. Jessica explained that thought they were called concubine, history would remember them as the true wives.
I first watched David Lynch's Dune in 84 I was about 15 and it made me want to read books. The movie doesn't convey what the books do because in the books you see that Paul used the pattern planted by the Bene Gesserit to get his revenge. Harkonnens we're awful evil but 61 billion died in the Jihad in Paul's name. Leto II absolutely saved humanity by following the golden path his rule was so long it was almost 100 generations and if you were under his rule I'm quite sure you saw him as a tyrant. Frank Herbert "beware of charismatic leaders" words to live by.
Paul and even more so Leto II see the golden path, that one in 14 million possible futures where we win, humanity that is. Where we don’t go extinct. It was too much for Paul to bear, so he in turning down the burden, passed it to LETO II, and he was able to become what humanity needed to survive, even though for the 3 thousandish years it took to get there, he was mostly hated during that time.
Did you actually read the books before writing this? Have you EVER heard of the Golden Path? As critically central as it is to the story, I'm a bit surprised you failed to even say the words.
I don't even recognize these new movies. They have little to do with the books, no plot, zero acting, etc. Garbage. But you're right. Whatever the novel writer says goes. And only that.
The newest films are great adaptations. Dune Prophecy is based on Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson prequel books. Canon but the fans generally dislike them.

We have an AI with an agenda, narrating.
This is no AI buddy🤣👍
I hear heresy. Inquisitional personnel are ordered to your location as I'm writing this.
Yes and no bro. Read the books 📚

The new movies are infinitely better than that turkey that came out in the eighties.
