I started beach worming 40 years ago. I started with pliers but haven't used them for 39 years. Ditch the pliers and use your fingers. More productive and more enjoyable.

@@ReelFishing765 As the worm starts reaching for your bait, SLOWLY slide your fingers into the sand about 20mm BELLOW it's head. Then SLOWLY move your fingers in until you can feel the worm's body. You must not have any sand between your fingers and the worm. As the worm reaches up and arches it's back to pull the bait down, increase the pressure and pull it out. No sudden movements is the Key. It is amazing how much pressure you can apply without it pulling back as long as you do it slowly. You will never beat a worm with speed. The other thing is once you have the worm moving upward, keep it moving. Eventhough you have a good hold of it, if you stop the worm moving up, it can lock itself in the sand and break itself off. This is particularly true of big worms. If you only have it out a few inches and stop, it's a tug of war which usually ends with the worm pulling straight through your fingers or breaking itself off. When you use your fingers worming is as much fun or more than the fishing itself. It's worth persevering. Good luck.

Most bait and tackle shops along the coast have them , inland fish tackle shops cater for fresh water fishing mostly.
