I'm totally loving these exercises. As a teenager I played drums in a covers band then had to have major brain and spinal surgery and was paralysed in a wheelchair for fifteen years. I was told I'd never walk, work or have children. Now I'm working, walking and have three girls :) :) :) I've never been happier and just three weeks ago I bought a Roland TD9KX. I'm totally rubbish but really enjoying myself. I have no sensation at all in my left arm and leg but muscle memory and these exercises are enabling me to progress (slowly) and have fun. I've had to go all the way back to the begining but these exercises are way more fun than when I was a seven year old learning. Thank you for helping to make a middle aged bloke happy.
Such an inspiration. I love to hear about it. I'm just starting learning, so I can teach my 6 year old son. I will tell him about you. God bless and keep living. That's what life means. Over come the the obstacles and live. Thank God for music.
I'm a musician and have also worked with brain and spinal cord Injury patients. I'm suffering without band activities since lockdown started a year ago, and can only imagine what it must be like to lose those abilities for so long but music is wonderful therapy and motivation, esp drum set and in your situation. Im so happy for you that you were able to get back to playing at least in some manner!!!! It takes so much work and patience to recover from such an ordeal and maybe never fully. I have so much respect for those who keep working at it. Such determination is truly inspiring.
Amazing... I'm so happy for you... God has healed you give him all the glory and praise... When the doctors say there is no hope God says there is HOPE...If your not a Christian I'm encouraging you to seek God and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in doing the will of God👍👏...Have a great day ❤❤
I can only imagine how boring these exercises are for you at your level of drumming but I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video for us noobs that don’t know the necessary exercises to progress. Thanks a million! Very helpful
im 45 years old and taken interest in learning to play the drums and im loving your exercises.. all these are difficult and new to me but i'll keep on practicing
I am self taught and have been playing for 40 yrs. I've never learned how to read music or to do certain sticking patterns. I enjoyed this video with the notes. I have been stagnant with my level of playing. I am currently not playing In a band and am looking to grow and have fun practicing again. Thanks for sharing.
I just started playing like 3 days ago and you’re really helpful! I’m so happy you understand what “beginner” means! Keep making these cause they’re great!
Just started drumming 3 days back. Just reached the kick drum exercise today and so happy to finally be able to do all of the exercises. They were a great help and I’d keep on practising these daily as warm up.
My 5 year old son really loves your tutorial he loves watching your video. He really prayed to God to bought drums for Him however I cant afford yet so I used an alternatives such as plates and pale for him to play drums😊😊.He wish to be one of you soon. Keep pushing the beginners to make their passion more meaningful. Thanks a lot! Godblessu
Hello Gabe, hope all is well. I'll be 50 on 08/19, and get this, I bought my grandkids some drum sets, and well grandma is the one trying so hard to learn how to play them. I tell u, it's so hard, so I got on UA-cam and typed in tutorial on how to play drums, and I clicked on one of our videos. All i say is, thank u very much for your lessons. You've helped me so much. You're Awsome. GOD bless u n family, Sincerely Maria
Holy MAMA! Thank you thank you thank you. Ok, I know I'm a bit excited here, but I have to share why. I'm finally taking time off work, it's just been a HAUL of a few months. Non-stop. Thank you I bought a new alesis surge to just pick up my love for drumming. I stopped drumming 23 years ago after a big bike accident. These first lessons took me back to my beginnings. Thank you.
Just got my first drum kit form my husband this week and first thing I did was try your exercices. I actually managed to make some sound with this thing that are not repulsive! I didn't think I could actually hit a kick drum and a snare and a hi hat in a semi coordinated way, but your video helped me a lot and gave me the confidence boost I needed to start this thing right! So thanks :) I clicked on your course's link though and it tell me that I can't opt in because my email adresse is suspected to be a spam bot :D maybe it's something to look into, I will try again later though! I am a drummer (66 yr old) I've been in some small successful bands and I still learn from young Gabe, he has such an elemental teaching manner that makes one want to progress
Thanks for this lesson! I just took my first real lesson, but I didn't really remember what to do so I found this and started with your first beat, quarter note, 8th note, 16th note on high hat, and practiced that with kick on one and three, snare on two and four. It was great! Then I added in an eighth note roll down the toms, and then back to repeat on one.
I have been a musician all my life. I'm now 51, and just bought my first drum set. This video will be my first foray into a very new instrument for me. I play most stringed and wind instruments, and teach almost anything. The drums are my final frontier. Looking forward to getting started and being humbled by these new Ludwigs.
I just started drum lessons and I love it. Even though I can’t get my feet and hands to obey on some of it but I’ve only had two lessons so it will come.

I’m new to drumming, i have wanted to play since i was a kid. Now at 54 i got my electric drum set so i can make my dream come true. I don’t know how to read notes so i was looking for a video to practice with. This video is perfect for me and i cant wait to try it out tomorrow. I loved how you explained things first then showed what it looked like and sounded like, that will help me allot.
Thank you so much, on behalf of all beginner drummers!! I’m doing my best, it’s difficult though because I’m paralyzed from the upper chest and my fingers and hands don’t work. I think I’m getting it though! Thank you again! Thanks ☺️

Very simple but powerful lesson for a person who hasn't played a set of drums in over 50 years. (like me) I enjoy all of your videos. Thanks for sharing. Joe
Hi gabe you are such an inspiration. I am eager to learn more. Wish someday you could teach me personally. Lucky we have drumset at home and i learn for free. I love you. Thanks
My husband is drummer and i found out that drumming can be a good exercise .,but now i am fascinated to play and i start to learn but my husband is kind of busy si i rely on you tube and i found out that your video is very interesting ang easy ,so i subscribed on your channel hoping that at my age of 47 its not yet too late to learn trough the help of your videos..thank you and more power !!

Your video was very very good. I am a 62 year old grandma and I am picking up my drum sticks for the very first time. I have wanted to play the drums since I was about 14 years old. I have a beginner set of drums by ddrum. I am going to your free drum lesson page. Thank you. Jacki
Thanks for the good exercises! Was getting bored with what lessons I’ve had (take lessons from a buddy on Saturday mornings) been playing a few weeks. This helped expand the exercises I’ve been doing. Thanks!
Hey Gabe, I've bought myself an Alesis Nitro Kit to help me in my midlife crisis (!) I haven't played drums for around 18 years or so, and stumbled across your 20 Intermediate Beats video, printed out the music and went to work. From not being able to keep one beat going, I'm now managing 18 of those. I can't do 2 of them because I haven't yet bought a double bass pedal. Anyway, I really enjoy your style of teaching and the way you play, very inspiring so thank you! I'm going to go through your beginner course and will probably end up buying a course of sorts to help me stay inspired. Keep up the good work, and thank you for your contribution to music and personal fulfilment! Much love from Cape Town, South Africa.
Started on drums at age 5. Got my first set at 12. And got really good! Played on drum line too in school. I’m 33 now and tryna relearn, so I’m getting excited! Set is up and going back to the basics! Thank you for the videos!
Thank you for sharing this video. I’m looking to start drumming. It’s always been an interest of mine, but never had the chance. I grew up watching my dad drum, so I figure it’s my time now.
Hi, I m one of yours biggest fan as well as your student and also my inspiration and I only need to say is plz give me lesson I don't want to miss this one plzzzz... Love your videos
Just got a kit for my family for Christmas. Family bonding on a music level is great and we're finding that drumming is super fun. Thanks for the content. Its going to be what I start doing.
Everything is great with this video. I understood everything though it was my first time. Lemme say I can use the beginner exercise to be a pro. Thanks bro
Thanks for being such an inspiration I started drumming a year ago and I have played in a concert already I started watching you and you have got me so far in my drumming career so thanks p.s. I subbed liked and notified.
Best tutorial ever, my psrents bought me an aleses electric drum set suddenly but i Don't even know how to play drums! But once i finished setting the drum set up i searched some beginner tutorials and this is the first one i clicked and in just 10mins i could already do the 1st 3 exercises!
Rock Morning Gab! ☺ im Rad from the Philippines, i'd really enjoyed so much watching your drums tutorials. I'm glad that there's a lot of good substance and learnings on it. I'm not a best drummer but all I can say your videos tutorials mold me to be a good one. I don't have drum set on our home bec. it's too expensive really😊. I used to played drums only on our Christian Church, for worship and To Glorify Lord God. Now i have a student, currently i am teaching now to kids on how to play basic drum beats on our Christian Church. Thank you for motivating me to continue one of my passion which is playing drums, Now i am very motivated and eager to learn because of you Gab, and now i am sharing my knowledge to others. Godbless.
Thank you so much. Your lessons are friendly and easy to follow and free. I'm a full time single dad of 5 and couldn't imagine life without music and definitely could not afford lessons. Thank you again.
Turned 50 this year and my awesome kids bought me a drum kit so I can FINALLY stop whining about never getting a chance to learn to play. This first lesson was really helpful to get me started!
🙋♀️, I just set up my drum set and started looking for beginner's lessons. I feel hopeful now. Drumming has always been a passion of mine and I really want to learn. Thank you
Dude don't ever let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. Everyone learned to ride a bike the same way, we all fell and it hurt. But we got back up. That's what counts.
@@bekind3050 i bought a used drum for $190 called a Fame drum kit. Pretty cheap and has its issues, but definitely serves its purpose for me to learn the basics.
Found a cheap Yamaha DTX400K on marketplace and picked it up on a whim. My 9 year old son and I went from nothing to something just watching your videos. Thanks for making them.
We just gave our 5 year old grandson a drum kit. (Got it free) Needed a little fixing and a stool. Still looking for a stool HIS size. We’re going to learn together so thanks for this lesson. It’s a start!
Lol right? I tell ya what theres a huge difference between mentally understanding a concept and getting the body to coordinate properly to carry it out. That's where practice and repetition comes in. You must develop muscle memory and that only comes with repetition. As a serious brass player I've had fast licks with awkward fingerings I thought I could never play, but I just started slow and wouldnt go faster until I could consistently play it at the slower speed and wouldn't you know it I was flying through those licks by concert time. It just takes practice. .
I'm totally loving these exercises. As a teenager I played drums in a covers band then had to have major brain and spinal surgery and was paralysed in a wheelchair for fifteen years. Rock Morning Gab! ☺
im Rad from the Philippines, i'd really enjoyed so much watching your drums tutorials.
Godbless.
It's a nice drum set. I wish my TD17 sounded as good as your drums
My grandson is 3 and I just got him a regular drum set, I like your videos I think he can learn from them alot.
Great lesson from the drumist himself hope to learn from you. I'm trying and it's working
Thank you so much. Your lessons are friendly and easy to follow and free. I'm a full time single dad of 5 and couldn't imagine life without music and definitely could not afford lessons. Thank you again.
Just starting out, glad I found you! Looking forward to the lessons! Thank you
I’m glad you found me too! I’m looking forward to helping you out this year!
Turned 50 this year and my awesome kids bought me a drum kit so I can FINALLY stop whining about never getting a chance to learn to play. This first lesson was really helpful to get me started!
Thx for helping
I have just started the drums. I am an Oder platypus which shows it’s never too late. Drumming makes your heart sing.
You have good talent
🙋♀️, I just set up my drum set and started looking for beginner's lessons. I feel hopeful now. Drumming has always been a passion of mine and I really want to learn. Thank you
I don’t have drums but I have sticks.....

Retep Mullenoski me too
I've had sticks and practiced with that for 4 years before I bought a drum set. If u buy the sticks, the drums will follow
Dave Grohl (the drummer of Nirvana and now lead singer of the Foo fighters) learned on pillows.
Just got started so happy to find this awsome lesson ☺️
Deciding to give Drumming another go. After I had a critical person said I could not play.
Dude don't ever let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. Everyone learned to ride a bike the same way, we all fell and it hurt. But we got back up. That's what counts.
Just got my electric drums yesterday and i’ve just tried this and within two hours I managed to do all 3 exercise in a row in 120bpm. Awesome!
I'll start my first drum lesson. I'm 46. How much did your drums cost?
@@bekind3050 i bought a used drum for $190 called a Fame drum kit. Pretty cheap and has its issues, but definitely serves its purpose for me to learn the basics.
Great exercise for foot & hand coordinarion. Amazing vid as always!
Yes!! 🙏
Found a cheap Yamaha DTX400K on marketplace and picked it up on a whim. My 9 year old son and I went from nothing to something just watching your videos. Thanks for making them.
thank you!! you make me better!!
It’s my pleasure!
:D
I'm teaching my 9 yr old neighbor drums and this course is perfect. Thank you so much.
if 90 bpm is day 1 beginner, I am in big trouble.
We just gave our 5 year old grandson a drum kit. (Got it free)
Needed a little fixing and a stool. Still looking for a stool HIS size.
We’re going to learn together so thanks for this lesson.
It’s a start!
Me after watching : see, its easy peasy
Try to play it : just forget it.
It just takes practice.
.
The video is so much better than any other video that I have ever seen
