This was amazing at the time used to play it every time I visited the arcades, and you sat inside the cockpit and it was on hydraulics so moved about in the corners, really was superb. Thanks for the memories
@@FMecha Winning Run didn't seem very popular outside of Japan. Hard/Race Drivin' was big in USA and some people thought it inspired Stunt Car Racer, but Crammond said it was just a coincidence (understandably so, he was making racing sims since Revs).
The Intel 386 or even teh 386SX just never existed back in 1988.. and Microprose F1 GP was actually released in either late 1995 or early 1996... so you are highly displaced in time there PC head.
What a great looking game I have not heard of before! The sense of speed and how smooth the frame rate is, very impressive! Thanks for sharing and subbed!!!
3D polygon graphics in the late 80s? Wowzers! (and yes, I know about Atari's I.Robot) How come a game like this didn't get more coverage than, say, Virtua Racing?
No, before this there was "I, Robot" in 1984, and before that there was "Battlezone" in 1980, and if you really wanna go back there was "Maze War" in 1973.
For a consumer/arcade game, definitely. It was however not state-of-the-art. That trophy goes to expensive industrial systems like the Evans & Sutherland CT series, which at that time already did fully textured 3D with gouraud shading, transparencies, non-linear fog and anti-aliasing(via sub pixel averaging).

1988 and 60 fps of non textured polygons joy....
This is how I wish my old 20mhz 386SX would run Microprose F1GP. 😄
but he never did.
I wonder if British gaming press did ever compare Crammond's F1GP to Winning Run?
@@FMecha Not sure, but the similarity is evident. Other than the 2D overlayed detail of the cockpit in Crammond's title.

FYI to anyone watching, no, mame does not emulate the sound properly. It actually had a very good engine sound. Well, the 1991 version did.

The First Full 3D Game ever made?!?!?
No, before this there was "I, Robot" in 1984, and before that there was "Battlezone" in 1980, and if you really wanna go back there was "Maze War" in 1973.
No, but it was the first ever 3D polygon racing game.
this is Showa era....Namco is really awesome
I miss this game 😢
Fuckin' good old days 🫡
Ha! Never knew this game existed. Nice one.😀👍
A Ridge Racer prototype!
This is impressive for 1988!

Looking good there '88 🤓
Looks a lot like Ridge Racer
Zero to 320 km/h in five seconds 😅
Man that engine noise is … something,
its sound emulation needs work
ua-cam.com/video/aeBNwT_S69k/v-deo.html
Looks fantastic for its age. Sounds awful.
Emulation isn't quite there yet, the real one sounds a bit better.
The real sound is great, it sounds like an actual indycar / f1 car. The emulated sound is totally messed up.
Shut up sega fanatics boys , Namco was beast😮😮
