      It's good. Not the best. He got lucky and the floor landed where he did not have to cut a sliver of the flooring to fill a gap. He didn't do a proper layout. Look for a video from a person who only does laminate flooring to see the layout process.

      By any chance, do you have any suggestions on how to approach an issue where your wall is not entirely straight as it pertains to cutting the boards to fit?
      Should I start paying wood at the level line? Or should I start by trying to get the first row cut to where it had a sloped edge against the wall?

      Cotton Oh So Cotton laminate, hardwood etc expand and contract depending on heat/cold. If there isn’t space to expand then the floor has to expand somewhere else. Causing the boards to lift up and out somewhere in the room. Take a piece of paper.. then push from both ends of it, you will get the picture.

    Oh my goodness FINALLY someone actually shows how to lay flooring!!! Thank You so much!! I've watched many videos and the best teacher is Joe, so that's how you do that channel, but... He explains it as if you've done it before, I can't say thank you enough, my only question is once you cut a plank, how do you get it to connect to the one in the row? It seems like I'm doing something wrong? I guess what I mean is do you always have to have a groove to snap into? It seems like I'm waisting way to much flooring?

    I have a 18 ft. Built in Dresser that runs the total width of my master bedroom . The dresser currently sits on top of old carpet. After removing the old carpet I'm thinking of running a strip of laminate parallel to the dresser that would slide under the dresser. Then lay the rest of my laminate perpendicular to that one strip of laminate . I'm worried about losing the " Floating Effect" on that one side of my floor. The dresser has Intricate mounding at the bottom , that's why I'm thinking of running that one strip parallel to the dresser and sliding it half way under the dresser.
    The other solution would be to remove the drawers and jack the dresser slightly off the floor, slide the laminate under and continue running my flooring perpendicular to the dresser. I will end up damaging and having to repair the dresser . Again I worry about losing the "Foating" effect and the floor may buckle because of the weight of the dresser would lock that end down.
    Please give me some advice on solving this problem. Thank you

    • @TheFixerHomeRepair
      @TheFixerHomeRepair  5 років тому

      Hey Robin! Yes, it should be the same. If you have a situation where you have a lot of moisture like a basement with no sump pump maybe you could paint the floor with a sealer or install a subfloor but this stuff is very durable and resistant. That is my opinion anyway!

    • @jennifereshelman917

    🌟✨🌟 Great video. Thanks. Is there a way to turn around and install the flooring in the opposite direction? I
    Have to go into a closet. The doorway is 24 inches and the closet opens up inside to 5 feet. The boards will be perpendicular to the doorway not parallel so when I run the first row on the left side of the doorway extending them into the closet then moving to the right I’ll have a few more pieces to install going to the left. With hardwood flooring you can put pieces back to back. Groove to groove which allows you to go the opposite way in certain areas. ✌🏼

    • @TheFixerHomeRepair
      @TheFixerHomeRepair  4 роки тому

      Hey, James! There is always a way... I would not recommend flipping the floor. You should still be able to continue the floor into the closet the same way, it will just take some extra effort. I suppose if you really wanted to you could flip the boards and put a threshold over the seam. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, James!!

If you nail it down there is potential of the seams popping out of each other and i'm sure some other issues. You can do whatever you want but the product is not meant to be nailed down. Can I ask why you don't trust it? What do you think the issue will be? Thanks for the comment.

    With the trim cut off saw...it should cut through the molding very easily. If you find any resistance,
    you hit a nail....STOP there and remove that nail, otherwise you will destroy the cutter blade.
    That happened to me ...had to go buy another blade... Just saying.

    My floor has a carpet that I'll be replacing with a laminate floor. The carpet has a 1/2 in. Particle foam pad. Should I leave the old pad and lay the new laminate floor on top? I thought it help insulate the sound . Please advise. Thank you.

      Richard A. Valdes - carper pad should be removed. If you use carpet pad as laminate underlayment the click system will break due to instability.

    Why do you call it a floating floor?

    • @TheFixerHomeRepair
      @TheFixerHomeRepair  4 роки тому +1

      Great question! The reason it is called a floating floor is because it is not glued or attached with fasteners. It literally just sits there and “floats” around with the changes in humidity and temperature. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

      That’s the design of this laminate floor. Some have a V-groove as a design to look more like a real wood. The “gaping” is designed on purpose.

      Kevin Watkins - last years the laminate flooring improved a lot, the patterns are more natural looking and the click system is stronger.
      Enjoy your new floor! I’ll be installing my next weekend.

    I am a DIYer. I do all repairs and maintenance on my home and car myself so this video irks me. The first thing: If you are going to give advice, advise people to purchase the proper tools to do the job such as a tapping block and pull bar. A simple set with spacers cost $20. I could clearly see where the edge of at least one board in the closet was damaged from the crow bar, and I'm sure it will be covered, but proper tools could have prevented the damage. 2: 99% of laminate floor manufacturers recommend end pieces be at least 8" and I know I can not measure with my eyes, but some looked to be smaller than that. 3: The larger the room is the larger the expansion gap should be and should never be less than 1/4". It is very difficult to know how much space is under the drywall and to be 100% sure that the floor and drywall do not touch in any part of the room. 4: Never cut the materials in the room you are laying the floor in, the flooring probably has tons of saw dust under it now. & 5: an easier way to measure and cut end pieces is to flip the board 180 degrees, slide to the wall with a spacer and mark where the end of the last board is. No numbers or subtracting and you get a perfect cut every time.

      Square your rooms out. This is a really easy install. If u don't it will be messed up. Find out what wall to start out at or if u need to start the install from a hallway. A lot of math is involved to get a proffesional look. That also keeps u from using multiple transitions points. A lot of these Diy videos don't really show u how to install the flooring properly. Been installing floors for year's, and actually go in and reinstall floors that Diyers have destroyed

    Reply to my comment, i have installed 30 different floors of varying brands for a landlord i work for. I think its all junk. Every single piece you have to beat the ends, and many times the long locking sides ,with a block as you illustrated. Some you literally have to pound HARD. Especially if you have a second doorway at a 90 to the first doorway, you have to beat it both directions, length and width.
    This product CAN NOT BE HIT THAT HARD, it splits the groove more than just occasionally, making it a junk unusable piece. and yeah i use the pry bar on the ends (thats OK )
    Sometimes you dont see the damage until you are many rows out. tell me what is wrong. I see you beating it with a tongue block, so I KNOW you damage pieces. Whats the deal?

    pro tip ,notice how your paint stirring stick went under your base board when you banged on the second row,not good sticks will get stuck your flooring is being driven under baseboard,get your first row set straight then get some wood screws you dont have screw but a inch or so into subfloor 2 to 3 ft apart ,screw behind first row nxt to baseboard they stay in place i do flooring for a living

    My first issue is that my first two pieces wont lay flat. They kinda wobble back and forth. Is there a trick to laying them down even with the floor ?

    • @TheFixerHomeRepair
      @TheFixerHomeRepair  5 років тому

      Hey! Floor leveler would be your best option. You can get the stuff you add water to and spread it on the uneven part of your floor. You could try to take a few pieces and put them together on a flat part of the floor then move them to the uneven part but if it is too uneven it will move when you walk on it and potentially the seams could come apart. Do you think you could do the floor leveler or is it not worth it to try?
