    queen beds are sufficient unless you are a "mountain man". To me the walk around space is important.

      Totally agree. I'm wanting to get ideas on an RV TT to pull behind my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited & this is part of my learning...like going to RV school which I feel I need. And I used to have a 5th wheel a few years back but now I need something Totally different.
      This knowledge, I'm gathering is priceless.

    These videos are great, just purchased an SLX from Haylett and honestly didn't know there was a difference between the Jay Flight and Jay Flight SLX. Haven't seen many Jay Flights around. There are a lot of things nice about the Jay Flight compared to the SLX but for the avid weekend camper I think the SXL works well. Keep up the good work Josh!

    I like that there’s no pull out on the Slx 2021, because typically I feel I would lose heat.As far as durability you can see. I look at electric option then gas because gas tends to be some issues there. 2 100 watt solar cells could run electricity.As the table issue and awning . I would take those out. Simple foldout table better. Besides if you moving who’s going to put stuff on the table. slx has enclosed underbelly on 2021 versions. For roofing could establish different materials to last longer. I would Lose Awning and have traditional tarp and use electrical port to have light. I feel there’s a way around certain things but when It comes to some things. I think about it ,if you actually going to live in these trailers. That is it because who wants to freeze , and do you really need certain things awning. table, or propane. It’s about solar power and thermal power cells. Off grid away from people is possibility to why you travel right to clear your head.It is y more people are leaving California too many people. Everyone needs space.How frustrating would it be if you did not have space?I feel by the video you see upgrades to certain ways but then draw backs on other things. Slx I feel ok just think about customization, what can come off and what can be put on. Nice to have comparisons , but more nice to know how to make things last.

    I am looking at this type of trailer and much prefer the walk around floor space over a king size bed. My husband is 5’8” so even a short queen is great for us.

    Team Queen. Makes it easier to get around the bed. Also, like the basics and price of the SLX, but we also don't spend much time in the camper when camping. Looking to trade my full Jay Flight 28BHBE for a SLX8 267bhs for easier half ton towing. Thanks for the great videos Josh.

    Also. Pass along to the manufacturers to eliminate the island in some of the larger models. My unit has to be turtle friendly since it's just me and I park in parking lots frequently. Many units would be very turtle friendly if it were not for the center island. If one does more traveling than parking, the island doesn't do much for me. The travel friendly does. You reviewed a model recently that had no island and it was perfect. Also, not everyone needs a bunk house but I do need more multi season storage for clothes.

    We have a king bed at home. Why? Big dogs. They don’t always sleep on the bed (well, one doesn’t) but if there’s a storm? They have to be on top of us practically. So we prefer the real estate to work around them.
    I like some things on the SLX, but the one thing that sets them apart is the heating. I too am in Michigan (only about an hour away from Coldwater as it happens!) and it gets COLD here, surprisingly early in the year sometimes. It got down to the low 50’s last night, it’s still summer technically. Camping can happen into November at times, maybe even December i. some niche situations… I’m gonna need that extra 37% furnace air flow and thermal package offered by Jay Flight vs. SLX. If we lived in Florida, sure, ventless is the way to go. We do not. We go north to camp, it is colder up there than even here. So, floor vents are a must all other things being equal.

    We bought a used 2016 Flight 28RLS from an individual two months ago and love it. Love the standard Queen bed. Pulls great with my Ram 1500 with a Hemi 5.7.
    The quirkiest thing we've found on the camper is the light switch for the bathroom is not beside the door as you would expect, but under the medicine cabinet next to the GFCI outlet. Weird.

    Thank you for all your videos. We are actually hunting and comparing these exact models. To answer your question we would do standard queen over king. Same length and ability for more walk room and cheaper sheets/bedding to purchase. Wish the XLS had an optional thermal package. Our front runner is the 264 BHS. Family of 5 We do like 1 full hook up trip per year, maybe for visiting in-laws but the timeframe of season can vary there and we live up north. We really want to use it for Deer hunting season which for us is 3 days of camp x 2 weekends in a row- sometimes warm sometimes cold. Generator and no water hookup.Just a place to use the bathroom and sleep. What we currently use is from the 80's so anything would be a step up but still weighing our options. 🙂

    Great job Josh! You pointed out so many of the things I was not aware of back in 2013 when I purchased another brand basic camper based on price compared to a Whitehawk that we were also interested in. I regretted that decision almost instantly. It was not that the camper we had was bad, it wasn't and we used it for 7 seasons without any real problems. It just didn't have the extra lights, the added cabinets etc that the Whitehawk would have given us. I feel really fortunate to have found a 2016 Whitehawk 28RBKS this year that was in excellent condition and I felt reasonably priced and WOW what a step up!! Your videos always help with this information. You will definitely help potential buyers by showing these differences. Love the work you do.

    Great review. I owned a Jayco tin & stick for 16 yrs. it had the designer interior . Well built. Going to retire soon, want a small rig for a couple. The slx 237rbs is almost perfect. I am over six ft. the bed is to short. The SLX has no black tank flush. So on the jay flight the shortest rig is 24 ft. then goes to 28ft. The 24 has no theater seating and is an old floor plan. So the design goes to SLX, All couples want theater seating across from a big tv. For me, I have a 1/2 ton F150. I listen to the limits and opinions of 1/2 tons. My wish is for Jayco & Coachmen to have a redesign of their floor plans.

    My wife and I currently have a 2007 WildWood, camp queen size bed. On a personal level, residential size queen would be great to have and much easier to select a mattress, I mean, if you were so inclined, you could take your queen from your home and put it your camper. With that being said, the layout of the camper and ease to remove the mattress is one major thing to look at and I feel many over look. Wrestling a mattress out and in is not easy, my wife and I did that in our camper. King seems and sounds nice, but, we also like to have more room around our bed. Queen it is for us.

    We like the bunk beds that create less weight, less length, more room and more comfort for sleeping. A couples bed takes up too much room for us functional folks. Great idea for the table legs. We have a large dog and the table would easily be removed for him to have extra room in our 20' Jayflight.
    Love the full Jayflight with the kitchen at the back/front....I can't tell what end it was at, or was it in the Jayflight SLX, dam....

I have even considered driving to the Xichigan Coldwater location as the 264BHS is several hundred dollars less than my local dealer. Hi Josh, Just watched your video on the Jay Flight vs the SLX. We prefer the Jay Flight. In fact we just purchased a 2022 Jay Flight 32BHDS. It came with a king but we prefer the queen. With the king bed we could hardly get by the bed. Both my husband and I are quite small in stature and we were bumping into the blackout shades that were down at the time. Putting in the queen bed gives us 5" more on each side. We are also singers with a bit of equipment so the bunk house is now going to be the music room. Really enjoy your videos. We have been RV'ing since 2004.

    You missed one of the most important differences and that's the cargo carrying capacity. The SLX has smaller tires and lighter axles which limits your cargo carrying ability, especially if you fill your freshwater tank for dry camping. Still fine for most weekenders, but an important difference.

    My plan is to buy a quality mattress in California King, which measures 72x84. That extra 4" means no foot cramps, and my waterbed sheet sets will fit it. Length... always in short supply in RVs.

I've stayed away from slides, as we tend to take months long trips, with many overnight stops. One less thing to go wrong on a multi stop trip. Having a slide stuck might ruin your day! curious if there is a difference regarding "SLX8". Most of the differences you pointed out were present on our 2021 SLX8 212QB. on the overhead shelf over the bed I put some thin indoor outdoor carpet down from Home Depot and my wife found some baskets to go up there and it actually looks better than the Jay Flight cabinets now, especially with the blue LED lights. I also cut up that same indoor outdoor carpet and lined the cargo compartment and made a floor rug to go on my wife's side of the bed.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 роки тому

      SLX8 is what is referenced thru this video. The SLX7 are the single axles. SLX8 are tandem axles. I may not have made that clear. There's always so much "house keeping " to cover...

  • @andrewhood4997
    @andrewhood4997 3 роки тому

    Due to me being 6'2" I would probably not go with the SLX due to the camp queen.
    As for the qreen vs king, it really comes down to who's buying. Couples with dogs that sleep with them and/or families with small kids that still find them in their bed when they wake up probably want the king. But as you stated, these are not long term campers, so I would probably say queen in the smaller couples campers but a king in the others.
    I also thought you could do an after market upgrade to the propane on the slx. Is there also an option for the masurator and/or black tank flush on the flight?

    Thanks for an interesting video, putting in perspective the differences between to product lines that look similar in many aspects. You have highlighted those differences that are not necessarily apparent to untrained eyes or inexperienced shoppers like us.
    Your comment on floor registers is really appreciated. My wife and I are biased towards no floor registers for the neater look and no place to collect dirt and spilled coffee beans - and the nightmare to clean up spills. However, the difference in efficiency is making me think twice. Is the floor register strictly for heat? If so we can cover them up with magnetic covers until we need heat.
    My pet peeve with entertainment centers is this: why is no one offering a Blu-ray player? At least I have not been able to find that even as an option. DVD is so last century. Therefore, a shelf or nook around the TV to place a Blu-ray player is a top priority to me.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 роки тому +1

      Floor vents are for heat alone. I have another "coverage" idea for you here that's incredibly cheap and effective: ua-cam.com/video/qefaBTTdt8A/v-deo.html
      Regarding Blu-Ray: That medium was *mostly* skipped by the RV industry. Physical disc media is not our primary medium for media consumption anymore. More and more folks are shifting to streaming (though I contend the difficulty in getting good bandwidth at a campground can be difficult)
      Phones are now capable of providing the entertainment for an entire household and easily brought along for camping time. You can plug devices into HDMI slots to "build your own" entertainment as well -- blu ray included
