I finally got to do this today on my wife's 2001 W203 2 door Coupe (is a RHD in Australia). Wasn't hard to do at all thanks to this great vid - and finally our swearing and cussing when we try to use the remote has stopped 😃. Many thanks for providing this detailed and pretty simply repair.

Thank you for the instruction. For my case soldering was not necessary. Just removing the glue and scraping the contact points with hot glue sealing afterwards helped. I have also removed only one metal bracket (the bigger one) to get to the IR-sensor. Now the summer opening feature works fine (up to 2 meters away from the IR-sensor). Cheers

Fixed my 2007 W203 coupe yesterday with same issue, dry solder joints on IR receiver.
Had one problem, the threads stripped out of the lock,for the allan screw, so use caution when replacing, not sure if they got damaged when removing the screw but I hardly tightened it and I felt it go, also the screw seems a little too short.
Will helicoil it when I get a chance.

Big thanks it worked for me on my C203 Sport Coupe 220cdi 2002. I had just problem to fit zip tie because i had little bigger than you. This works on every W203 and C203 shassis.

Weird, my IR sensor works fine in my garage where there’s a low light. However, in the bright sunlight, sometimes it doesn’t even work 5 mm away.
I tried cleaning the exterior of the IR surface and it got marginally better.
Do you think this would help?

I'm going to try to see if this will fix my CLK320. I have to put key right up to it and cup my hand over it to make it work. Remote key quit working after window tint so no other way to lock/unlock car.
I can try to do that but I’m just curious if I could replace the IR sensor part from another car? Is it bound to the car? In older models you could just swap the sensor and it would just work. The reason I ask is that it’s easier for me to get a new unit rather than finding a gas oven to heat the screwdriver ;)

Quick question for you: Is it possible de get a used working sensor and replace the whole thing instead of resoldering the contacts? I mean does the sensor itself recognize the signal that authenticate and open the doors (and therefore is unique to this specific car)? or is it a module in the car and the sensor is only there to catch the signal and let the module decide?

What is the tool you use to get handle/sensor loose at beginning?? Thanks man. Great video just need that little tool. My sensor is bad. Infared doesn't work have to hold key next to handle touching it to open doors. Windows do not open.

Do the same operation to the sensor board on the side of the connection to the plug! Those solders were made with shitty lead wire at the factory and they crack from vibration from closing the door! 👍

What is that glue thing you put on 4:32 to seal the Platin up ?
hot glue?
Why are you breaking the lock?
There is a roll pin at the front of the lock. This is knocked out with a Pin Punch, then you can remove the front part of the lock and pull the sensor out to the front.
I have E200 2007 manual. Does my car have that? Because it can't open from key.
