Hey, great kit there. Luck you! An LPL easel, good quality. Paterson stuff, always the best. The focus-finder, the single-format easel, the safe-light, and the contact printers. The foam always goes bad on those. Easy fix. Definitely worth replacing. The test printer works a little differently your other Jessops test printer. Each finger lifts up the next, so start from the other side, or, lift all of them, and drop each finger, one at a time. You probably want a diffuser under your enlarger lens (where you otherwise have a red-filter) when you use the light meter. That way, you can diffuse the whole scene, and therefore measure the enlarger, not the selected frame (but keep the frame in the neg-holder). What that lets you do is change the size of the enlargement and compensate for the changed exposure / light intensity (usually with the enlarger aperture). You never have enough tongs (or negative clips). And, yes! People are always keen to find someone who wants to take on the darkroom equipment. So much more satisfying than throwing it away - especially as no-one makes much of it any longer. Great vid, good stuff. Keep up the good work!

Ah, all those Patterson stuff from the early 80s and that exposure timer, they brought back memories. I think that timer is for B&W prints. I used to have one for colour printing ( pretty useless TBH ), and if I am not mistaken I had something that used to suggest a colour filter value. Good pinhole shots too Rog. Will Gudgeon is a wizard with pinhole as is Steve O'nions. Sadly, pinhole has never been my thing but I can sure appreciate it. It certainly is no gimmick. I guess I just can't do simple things. Typical male.

The pinhole camera has got to be the most fascinating feat of machination. We really need one of these in space.
How could this tech become binocular? Two holes to one plate. Is that a thing? Would it change anything about the image?
Like I said, fascinating. It flips the image without the need of our complicated eyes and brain. It sees perspective with no lens. I love it.

    • @ShootFilmLikeaBoss
      @ShootFilmLikeaBoss  2 роки тому +1

I'm not sure of that would work. Be interesting to see. I saw Canon released a macro lens binocular!

@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss … forgot to ask ☺️… Ever seen a Mirascope? Two mirrored bowls reflecting out of a hole 🕳 in the top bowl. Good light through the top creates a 3D image of the center contents of the bowl. Very real.
Keep, keep on. Thx for the response. 🤩

Commenting as I watch: I guessed from context what "high street" meant but it's good to get clarification. We call it "goin' into town" ... doesn't matter if it's a small village or a major city, it's still going into town😆
Second slide...I thought 6 sec exposure might be a bit long to capture people walking but it came up nice regardless. Half or 1/3 sec would be better.
I like the last slide too.
Great find with all the darkroom stuff😁

Roger, if you do go do the bells that would be a really interesting video.
Regarding your bum bag, we always wore them with the pouch at the back so it’s out of the way. When needing something just spin it to the front. I’ve always assumed the name was because they sat on our bum.

The LPL easel 40x50cm is very nice, I have the same one. If you find the blades a bit bent you can get them perfectly straight with your fingers and a bit of time, after removing them from the easel.

As always I enjoyed your video. A bit different than this time. I've never been into pinhole much. I remember when I started out with photography as a kid back in the late 1950s, I built a pinhole camera out of a cylindrical oatmeal box. As a kid it was exciting to build a camera. When I was teaching continuing ed photography classes, I always had people build a pinhole. It helps to learn about photography. Some students liked it, others didn't. It interests me that there is a renaissance of pinhole now. I suspect the sterility and perfection of digital is reawakening interest in a part of photography so fundamental and flawed. Good job.

good luck with the foam of the first contact printer, i got the exact same when i bought my darkroom suplies (got the whole thing for 75$ CAD super cheap! but it had been sitting in a basement for the last 25 years, it was filthy to say the least! but yeah, the foam was a nightmare to clean off! used 99% alcohol, soap and water and cleaned it about 5 time to make sure there werent any sticky foam residue that would ruin my negatives!

@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss maybe i should have tried that! i must have spent 45 minutes struggling to clean mine! also as a replacement for the foam, i used a sheet of 2mm EVA foam or craft foam that i lightly glued in place, seem to have done the trick quite well if i do say so myself with my minimal amount of experience with it!

i'm surprised lerouge doesn't have the tripod mount centered in the base of their pinhole cameras. it'd be nice if they had one on the short side as well to facilitate portrait format shots. a cable release option seems like it would be a nice addition as well. it was good to hear your feedback on that manfrotto tripod. i'd been considering getting one for my pinhole but now i think i'll keep looking for an alternative that might be a bit more stable.

Great video! I got an idea, I noticed you were needing faster shooter speed to capture people in your pinhole photos. Why you try pushing your film (HP5 would be ideal) 4 or 5 stops. Because your working in 4x5, you may get good results. Keep on making great videos!
