Happy new year!
Is this the same boat from "A little bit alsorts" youtube channel?
Happy New Year Sweetheart lovely to see and hear you hope the new year is fantastic for you 😀🙏😀
Happy new year! Lovely to see the happy sunshine that is Twiggy 😊
Yo. Happy New Year.

Remember the only person you can guarantee to please most of the time is yourself
I would say the huge majority of your audience (I’d like to call us “cutters” but that does make us sound like we would need an intervention, and let’s not even think about “cruisers”!!!) are a loyal bunch who pretty much like what you like!
Thanks for all your hard work putting together some blooming smashing videos David, I have enjoyed them immensely.
And as I love and rewatch many of your vandemonium diy vids I’m really looking forward to seeing you do up Twiggy!
Perhaps we can be 'crucuts' ? ❤
Cut cruisers
@@Tom_Bee_ or maybe ‘crewcuts’ ?
"A boat is a hole in the water that you pour money into." Also, this was more of a"dock talk", than a fireside chat....😂Happy New Year Dave!!!
Have you been talking to my father, he used to say that all the time lol, all you missed was the bit about standing in a cold shower while you are doing that.
What are the 2 happiest days of a boat owner's life?
The day they buy their boat and the day they sell it.
BOAT - Bust Out Another Thousand. XD
@@cachecowIt was the worst day. My boat was the best you could get of that model. I would like to buy another the same. It has been sold twice for more than I sold it for. The new owners keep doing stupid things to it and my beloved barbeque looks very unloved. Only ignorant stupid people feel good about getting rid of their pride and joy. Note, I had 10 calls within 2 hours and the boat was sold in 6 hours after advertising it. My friends boat in the quarter million dollar range sold for cash in a day.
Yes never work put the cost per hour
The steam tug boat project looks ace ! The skills needed to bring it back to life will be fascinating
Definitely
it would be good to know what it cost and how much its going to cost to get it back as it should be.
Then is it really worth all the trouble doing it, other than it brings back some item from the past and makes it live in to the future.
@@davidsworld5837 - You wouldn't be an accountant would you?
A Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous 2024 to you and yours, David! The DIYs will be excellent, I'm sure. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct inspection would be a great video. In future, I'm hoping you'll be able to take the camper van with Twiggy in tow to some canals and rivers to which you wouldn't have been able to travel on your narrowboat. Have fun at the Boat Show!
Thank you!
If people don't enjoy your videos, they don't have to watch. I would watch you screwing in a lightbulb. Your calm voice and enthusiasm makes me feel happy. I love the countryside and canals, but as I'm disabled on the youtube is all I can see them on.
The great thing about fiberglass and wood is that they’re so repairable
Well DIY, cruising, canal stuff, AND poking about other peoples’ boats all in one year sounds bloody lovely to me!
I had a 9.9 Yamaha high thrust electric start. This is the outboard motor I would suggest for you. It has a prop about the size of a 30 horse to push you around. But the thing I liked most about it was it charges your batteries as it’s running. There is no other 10 horse worth having in my opinion.
Happiness is…starting the New Year with a video from David! I don’t boat, I don’t camp and yet I love the videos on both his channels - I’m pretty confident David can make any topic interesting! Looking forward to enjoying more in 2024 ! 🥳
Happy New Year David, and so glad to hear your wonderful news on upcoming events for you and Twiggy. It all sounds really interesting, entertaining and informative. As others have said, I always love the videos you put out and so it is great to know there is a plethora of Johns' humour coming over the ether! It is great that we get to see new and informative material from you about 'boaty stuff' even though you no longer live aboard; you can't give it up just yet! Anyway looking forward to your next vlog on your cruise. Every good wish for a joyous 2024. 🎉x
Happy New Year David, may 2024 bring your health, happiness and laughs.
It's quite amazing how little understanding there is regarding the limitations of solar power, especially among those who are proponents of electric power, which I am not.
Twiggy is brilliant and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! And, yes, keep it yellow - that's part of its charm! Not sure if you've bought the fibreglass yet but I have a fair amount of spare matting (a couple of metres of coarse and very fine) plus about 10 litres of resin and catalyst if you'd like it. I realise, being in London, it's not that handy for you. But, if you're in the area and want it, it's yours for free 🙂 It's been stored under a tarp, outside, for a couple of years but it should be fine as the resin is unopened. I'll be sure to check it later this week though, so you wouldn't have a wasted trip! Oh, and ignore anyone who says they want you to change the sort of videos you do. They don't know what they're talking about. You know exactly what makes a good video. Only ever do stuff that YOU enjoy, otherwise the channel will become a chore. Looking forward to the new videos 🙂
Thank you, that's very kind. I suspect I will not be in range of you in the near future, unfortunately
We definitely will get you on Boutari this year and take you fishing!
Boat trip! Yes!
I've now spent three years renovating a 30 ft. dutch steel cabin cruiser. It never ends... :D
Happy new year!
It will end when you can not be bother to do anything else or you sell it.
You have to ask a question. Is what you are doing adding value to the boat, OR making your life on the boat better for you.
why are you spending money on what you are buying.
have to kept any reciepts to work out how much you have spend over the 3 years. and would the cost and what you spent give you a boat that you could have just spent that money getting in the first place.
It never ends for any boat, house, camper, cabin, etc... maintenance is required to keep anything in proper condition.
Renovating is not the same as maintance. well not in my eyes.. so maintance is never ending but renovating has to have a point were you are happy. or you just spend more money than what you could spend buying a brand new item
@@davidsworld5837 - Few but the richest people buy a boat for profit. Most do so for the pleasure. Maybe @tremorist is paying *_HIS_* money for the satisfaction of renovating or restoring a boat he likes. Not a thing wrong with that, don't you think?
@@davidsworld5837and quiet frankly Davystickupyourbut it's none of YOUR concern what anyone does with THEIR money and time. 😊
That steam Tug has potentialtal,, Keep up the good work Sir !
Nothing beats the convenience of gasoline (petrol) power! Especially on a limited use machine like a boat. Happy New Year 🎆
Maybe you need a program about bathtub boats! Just think how many kids and folks have collected their own bathtb fleet.
Sounds like you have bought a good 2024 project. Nothing wrong with that at all! Fun!
Whatever you do David, it will be interesting and great to watch.
Here's to 2024!
Very much enjoyed your fireside chat about your plans for 2024. Looking forward to all your videos (DIY, channel boatings as a guest, the tugboat refurbishment, boat & camping shows, et al.)
Don’t forget the gunboat P22 you would enjoy looking around the boat, a trip down to the seals and back , always welcome. Friendly crew.
We had a few cruises, wonderful. Alway a pleasure to watch your chats sir.
Just to give some feed back on the new power plant. We had a 29ft sail boat on SF bay for years with a 7.5hp motor with a single 3 blade screw. Underway on the motor once past a few knots we had not issues however, torque would cause issues with steering so much so we needed to add 18in to the rudder to make steerage dependable. In the short term when at the show you should have some conversation on how to angle the motor mount to compensate for the torque at low speed.
Good luck, my wife and I will be following your journey.
I am sure that anything you post would be informative and interesting, keep up the great work.
Throw some food colouring in the well at the rear, if the water coming though turns red, then you will know that’s the culprit. A very easy, cheap and effective way to determine a leak!
I bought some last night!
@@CruisingTheCut I do hope it works! Very much forward to a video update as Twiggy is looking beautiful. You are going to give her a brand new lease of life I’m sure.
Don't worrry. As I bought my 20ft sailing yacht extreemely cheap I found out that it at some time had been standing on a stack of pallets and therefore cracked in the middle of the button. No problem. Up on a real stand. Cut out the damaged part and rebuild in fibreglass. Still sailing 4 years after. 🙂
Oh yes - happy new year to you too. Looking forward to your videos in 2024 🙂
😳😳😀😀
@nesleinf - Well done. Glad you're enjoying yourself.
happy new year cruising the cut
Love the new boat David, looking forward to see what you do with it!
consider a product called liquid transom for Tiggy`s transom repair
Happy new year. Can’t wait for the upgrade videos.
If it's out of the water doing the transom then I suggest putting a larger keel full length to increase straight forward suitability. It shouldn't be spinning like a coracle boat on every turn.
Here on the coast boats tend to have 2 motors one large one and a smaller one for trolling. I think that might solve your canal cruising speed problem.
We're with you David. I've been watching your boating antics for a while and have enjoyed them all including the people you feature. Keep following your enthusiasm. Thanks, Ronn
Happy New year and thank you for your beautiful content!
Thank you so much!! Really appreciate that 😀😀
Yes it will be spent on cheese sandwiches and DRINK !!!!!. heheheh.
We have to keep him alive somehow! Money well spent then sir!
This makes me laugh, the guys got plenty of money, he gets paid thousands from UA-cam as well as from the advertiser's. Thousands! It's roughly 800 dollars per 250,000 views he makes.
I was on the street, homeless basically and I built a raft house from recycled materials which I live in now, I did this on universal credit at the time... I've asked David to come film my raft house as I'm not tech minded or a presenter like he but, he didn't even reply to me.
I just think its ridiculous how someone who can afford more than others accepts donations from people who don't realize he gets paid by UA-cam for his videos anyway while people like me struggle to make ends meet and get no one backing me up.
From a doorway to a raft house basically while staying in a tent yet, not even David is interested in helping me show my creation.
Actually I did reply to your comment about your boat three weeks ago *and* gave my email address requesting you send more info, which you have not done. I try to reply to all sensible queries despite receiving hundreds of messages each week across the various media platforms.
As you have seen fit instead to post this comment, I have removed my reply and no, will not be coming to film.
SO excited about the steam boat restoration! I will subscribe to that channel! Thank you! Also LOVE your videos, DIY, tour, canally stuff, you name it, keep it up! :)
Do what you love "IF" you love what you do. Glad to hear you'll still be in the saddle this year. Giddyup.
Happy New Year 🎉David. Really looking forward to seeing you and Twiggy in the future!
I love the idea of looking at the steam ship. Project. As they say variety is the spice of life. Enything that floats your boat, as they say. Keep up the good work
David, David, David, A Happy New Year. That was the most interesting " fireside chat" we have ever had. I am sure 2024 is going to be very interesting. When Twiggy is back in the water I am sure Twiggy will be more than delighted to launch her.
This is very timely as, after several years of neglect, I’ve finally started restoring my 24ft fibreglass cruiser. I’m ahead of you in so much as she is on a trailer and out of the water (‘at North Kilworth Wharf - opposite the marina where you so,d your narrowboat), but a long way behind as I’m still pumping / draining out several years of rainwater ingress. Looks like next job is to replace the main cabin floor as the wood has rotted. Then it will be a largely replaced interior, including the good old stretchy carpet, and repair gel coat. So hopefully you’ll be a few weeks ahead of me and I can learn from your great videos!
I'm very slow, I'll probably want to learn from you! Good luck 🤞
She’s a lovely little boat..love the colour ..happy new year David.
Can't wait to see the tug boat vids. Happy New Year and can't wait for the DIY's. :-)
Happy and healthy 2024 to you , always interesting videos love them
2024 starts here. Looking forward to the coming DIY sessions. Happy New Year David
Happy new year 🥳
Take a look at outboards intended for displacement hulls, often called “sail drive” units. Remote controls, electric drive, correct prop and gearing, quiet, maybe higher output alternator for battery charging etc.
Have a happy and preposterous New Year
Sounds like a busy, fun, productive year ahead - enjoy and we’ll enjoy with you. Wishing you lots of good health and good days ahead.
😮 wow such a lot absolutely amazing 💕💕💕
You have such fun projects coming up. I look forward to hearing / seeing seeing how everything pans out. All the best in the New Year Gloria 🐂
Both the steam tug and the wooden boat look very interesting.
I enjoyed your DIY Vandemonium videos so more but with Twiggy sounds perfect.
When Twiggy has her trailer you could take her to the Norfolk Broads, she would love those waters. NO LOCKS!
Happy New Year.
I agree - the Steam Tugboat will be very interesting - and you're right, you put up what YOU consider interesting and set aside all the whimpering comments. Thanks for all the entertainment you gave us this past year - Happy New Year to you and I look forward to more of your videos in 2024!
Happy New Year CruisingTheCut...All the best in 2024 😀
YES, More repair videos! Happy New Year David.
Crikey David, I'm convinced one day you will surprise us with "I've bought a cessna light aircraft" , and we will all be avidly following all the video's that follow, such is your enthusiasm and presentation. You follow your heart, we'll be here. Have a good one 🍻.
Hahaha maybe. I quite fancy a helicopter 🤣🤣
Can’t do any DIY on aircraft without a mechanic’s license.
Would love to see renovations of other boats! So much fun and that you for thinking of this idea David. A tugboat would be wonderful!
Happy New Year, David. It sounds as though you have a full schedule of video topics planned, and I'll look forward to popping in to watch over the year. Again, I wish you a happy and healthy New Year.
Happy New Year!
Twiggy... That name brings to mind a certain era. That odd little boat, Nessie, will be an interesting video. It looks like a steam powered dinghy.
Yep a new back end all old boats need them sometime in life also an electric start out board motor 👌 you got a beautiful boat very solid them and painted yellow and white is good looking makes it easier for the silly knobs to see ya and not hit ya , looking forward to 2024 with what you do , Australia 🇦🇺
BOAT = Bust Out Another Thousand ...... all the best as you proceed in 2024 ...
Well done David, as someone well used to renovations, I find its all good fun, there's lots you can learn and very satisfying. I'm sure you will enjoy it and be very proud with the results - one job at a time. I always look forward to your videos. Thankyou!
There were days before the Jumbo 747 when passenger ships. travelled to and from Australia on the high seas, the journey would take anywhere from 1 month to six weeks, full of £10 Poms on the way out, but loaded with young Antipodean revellers on the way back. I travelled on ‘Castel Felice’ in 1970 such a wonderful experience, it was the time of my life.
Happy. New year David, 2024 sounds like an exciting year for you.I am looking forward to watching the transformation of Twiggy and your subsequent adventures.x
Looking forward to your upcoming videos. I really enjoy your DIY videos.
I'm looking forward to a broader range of 'interesting' videos from you. Good luck and thank you.
Sat through this one, sipping a whisky.
I am not among the people who want you to sell this boat! Looking forward to seeing you work on this! It's going to be ... a bit more but quite similar to your van-outfitting videos, I guess!
See you a few times over the year, then!
Happy New Year, Cheers!
Looking forward to the DIY videos because, let’s be honest- sometimes they turn out really funny. I love that you’re not afraid to tackle new projects.
A car windscreen washer pump with a bit of pipe will suck out the water and pump it over board..as a temp fix...I got mine from a scrap yard ...look for one that is sat in a rubber gromet ....that can be pulled out and take the pipe from it to go over the side...the type of pump is the type that has the inlet at the bottom not the side...hope this helps you and I run mine of a motor bike battery and solar panel..
Cheers. It's such a tiny amount of water there's not enough for a pump to even suck on, it just soaks a towel through after a couple of weeks, enough that I can wring out a small amount by hand
@@CruisingTheCut Hi I also use it in the bilge box over winter in the drink...just in case...and thanks for the reply..I wish you all the best on your project...."like twiggy" I have to replace the transom and it appears most of the floor aswell oh well such is boat life good luck...
Happy new year David all the best I've missed your videos looking forward to viewing you on another diy project let's hope project twiggy is kind to you
main difference with buying a boat and a car is that, any undiscovered major faults on a car won't leave you on the bottom of a river or lake lol. Happy new year , Frank from Sydney, down under.
Sounds like there are going to be some great videos to look forward to. Happy new year David 👍
Happy new year David ❤xxx
Ohhhhh, this year is going to be exciting!!! Have a wonderful New Year!! 😊
I can't wait for the DIY vids.
😊Thank you David so enjoyed your chat , good health and safe travels in 2024
The small boat is an example of Period lake and river chuggers we had in the 1000 Islands and on Lake Ontario between 'The Wars.'
That's a lovely little boat and you will have lots of fun doing it up and I'm looking forward to seeing it all happy new year.
I would love if you could cross the channel and show some of the mainland canals. You might be able to combine it with a van trip for dual channel content. Unfortunately I'm way way too far way from any canals to offer any help in this regard but I would love to see it. The steam tug looks like some great content and I love your new boat and am looking forward to the DIY content.
Happy New Year 🎉🥳🥰2024 David 🤗🥳🎉 all the very best in your adventures in Twiggy . Looking forward ☕️ to your renovations.
Buying a boat a bit rushed and having to fix it up? Been there, done that! Fixed some damage with fiberglass and epoxy and repainted only to use the boat much less than anticipated and sold it.
Luckily yours is in better nick than that tug boat. Wow, he/they have their work cut out for them but it will be glorious when finished.
Happy New Year!
I remember about 50 years ago finding out that in the Middle Ages, or maybe the Renaissance, people went to universities "to learn more about what interested them." There were no exams or degrees -- not sure how the financial aspects worked -- but you stayed until you'd learned all you wanted to, then you went home. That sounded great to me and of course today's world isn't like that. Too bad. Well, this video seemed pitched to, or maybe from, the same type of medieval scholar and I think that's a great way to start 2024.
Your video introducing Sarinda led me to subscribe to Simon and Gemma's videos (actually they have a second series on a smaller, 80's vintage express cruiser they restored), and I'm sure your take on restoration of a steam tug would interest me greatly. No problem with DIY videos either, and I hope in the new year you'll get to cruise on Twiggy and tell us about it.
Cruising the sea instead of the cut? :D ^^ (SCNR!)
Hm...don't know if I'd want to go on a cruise ship...I prefer going somewhere and renting a car to check out the place. I also don't like being surrounded by people all the time, not to mention that WiFi is quite expensive on cruise-ships and I would bring my laptop, which is only half as useful if I don't have access to the net. Still, I am happy you had fun, David :)
Yeah I didn't pay for the wifi, just used roaming on my phone while docked
Welcome back Happy New Year David
It sounds like an interesting year ahead. That steam tug project in particular is very intriguing, I hope that comes to be and that we get a nice video or two from you about it (and many from the people doing it as well). Actually, it all sounds interesting. All the best to you in 2024.
"Entrenchedly Lazy." I love this, I'd like to borrow that turn of phrase.
All the best for the new year, David.
I am really looking forward to your steamboat series.
What a surprise! Am in Illinois , disabled and dealing with a moneypit house so your videos in the past were pure escapism. Because of the house my mental health is precarious as the finances most days. Just wishing you serendipity, good sales and smooth projects.
And best wishes to you, I hope your circumstances improve
Happy New Year David. May your canal adventures in 2024 be safe, fun, and enjoyable. An idea on a slow cruising boat is to add a remote trolling motor on the bow. This way you can is as an inexpensive bow thruster. The Minn Kota 54 would be perfect.
Cheers
Haha. Your enthusiasm for your new project is cracking me up. It's infectious and now I'm looking around my house wondering what I can fix up and improve. 🤣
We are in for an interesting 2024...a "mixed bag" For me this keeps me comming back for more vlogs. Like the fix it, scenery and intro to other boats/boaters.
Good luck with Twiggy Jan Adelaide
I like the yellow.
Happy new year David!
I'm glad you are keeping the attic clear of cobwebs !
David HNY , as many boat or van DIY vids as you can manage please ...cheers
Happy new year! Really looking forward to seeing the steam tug, thats a project and a half.
Day 1 Happy New Year I will watch what you do
Happy new year
Happy New Year David. Re trailers and outboards, speak to Simon and Gemma at “Ship Happens”. They have recently purchased both for their fishing boat on “Ship happens Adventures”. Good luck with all the projects, both large and small.
Oh, I have been already!
The steam boat and your DIY sound amazing and your channel as well us enjoying your endeavors. I find the same with my channel ( different topics) but I just like sharing my adventures. HNY and keep the content coming.
Thank you very much!
Marigold yellow is so pretty. Twiggy would look grand in that color.
Ah David you’re gorgeous. Yes keep Twiggy yellow. It’s so “in” and “retro”. Love it. Really looking forward to her makeover, she’s going to look beautiful. Our grandson just bought a Suzuki much the same way you purchased Twiggy. His wee car needs a bit of a makeover n all. Happy New Year and let’s have the best year we can! 🇦🇺🧶🌸🥂
