- An alternative to Rosewood, Padauk is another wood from Africa that's very resonant. Make it into a steam bent solid, and you have the most resonant combo for a snare drum! This MCD 5.5 X 14 solid shell padauk snare not only looks amazing, but is the most resonant snare in the collection.

Hey Nick! It’s a beautiful snare drum. The reddish color of the wood pairs it really well with the nickel colored hardware. Very beautiful combination indeed.
What it was different to me in this one is that the low, medium low and medium running you can really listen to the distinct, let’s say, 2 different “keys” that the snare produces. It’s almost like you’re hearing to 2 pitches. As you progress to the higher runnings, these 2 different “keys” are getting closer in a unison sound. Warm, fat unison sound.
That’s why for this snare, I prefer the lower tuning as it sound like a richer resonance, without being metallic like a metal snare would sound. So, it’s for my ears a much more controlled warm sound giving it a rich double “key” or “pitch” to it. Super cool!
Much appreciated @dad.son_drums - this drum was a blast to make! Great observation with the tunings too. I was shocked to hear how much like metal drum this thing sounds like when you get higher. Pretty cool to hear a similar, yet more detailed perspective - thanks for that!
My favorite tuning was the medium tuning. It was the most controlled, yet had a little ring to it
Nice! Definitely pretty versatile in that tuning too
Great sounding and versatile snare drum. At cranked tuning it almost sounds like a Piccolo snare to me although it is 5.5 inch in depth. Thanks for sharing.
Pretty crazy, right?! Still plenty of body in the lower tunings too. Appreciate ya checking out the vid and continued support!
Nice snare Nick
Hey thanks, @stanfordkoch1271 !
Thanks!
Thank YOU, @sam-drums !
Padauk is fun to work with since it coats your entire workshop in a red dust that stains. Super dense and sounds amazing though.
Definitely wore respirators when working with it too - didn’t wanna breathe this stuff in. Very easy to work with, though 😅
I have a steam bent, solid shell, maple snare that Joe Montineri made. Beautiful sounding.
Very nice! You can’t beat a steam bent solid in any species, in my opinion
@@NickCostaMusic I agree. I always love solid shell, a Supra and the Slingerland COB Gene Krupa model. Love em!
That's a killer trio right there. Can cover almost everything with them!
