On most fronts, this looks like an excellent car - handling, noise levels, interior quality, even external looks, seem very good.
Annoying software bongs are a nuisance (though they sound exactly like all the useless chimes and bongs on my smartphone, so maybe they let some IT geek go a bit too far…), though eminently fixable with a software update.
The rapid charging speed does seem a bit low. In everyday driving that’s probably irrelevant, but on the occasions you do longer trips it could be a bit annoying.
Agree that the doors are a bit gimmicky, just like the falcon wing doors on the Model X.

In regards to the chimes, I think the Chinese don’t have a problem with it. So why would they need to “fix” it? However, they are now importing to Europe and they should look into localization to adapt to what Europeans want.
How is the UI? Is it simple and easy to use? You brought up a legitimate point about switching the control when using assisted driving. But I seem to get the idea about not liking the software due to xpilot’s annoying chimes and control more than the actual user interface
Furthermore, you should base your review NOT only on X pilot and assisted driving but on other factors too.

The ride is controlled by the damping in the shock. High(sharp bumps not car speed) and low speed(wallowing) compression damping while compressing. And rebound damping while pushing the wheel back with the spring force. The one thunk BMW has much better controlled rebound damping valving. It's not that complex although there are complex electronic and magnetic control systems.

@@tobiasforsberg2497 I know that the most relevant argument I remember is that Tesla is doing it and they don't do misstakes 😉 Just kidding.
The most relevant reason why to have it on the right side is that if you park sideways next to the road to charge your car the powercord has to be long enough to reach the other side of the car and you will stay on the street to plugin the charger. Not a good idea Imagine there is a lot of traffic.

There are definitely cultural differences but in this day and age chinese manufacturers have to know what western customers expect and dislike - Xpeng even operates partially from California. They are either not capable, which would be baffling or they don't care. And if they don't care it could be because they don't think western markets will be signifficant for them. But it could also be, and this goes back to the cultural aspect, that it is deeply engrained in them not to adapt to western ways.

    • @kardy12

  • @medman36

I agree. In European cars I think, people think when there are dings and dongs the car is trying to say something is wrong with the car, we have to stop the car by the side of the road immediately and call services for help. People are not pilots and easily distracted. More dings and dongs will not help people assess the situation and frankly in the long run be desensitised to danger, because we just don't listen to the dings and domgs amymore, because they distract from focus. Based on this one could argue that so many dings and dongs are dangerous and dysfunctional, thus should be illegal. That's how cars sounds have been implemented in the past. With all the dings and dings people are actually confronted with information overload which only aggravates the situation. I think it has nothing to to with Chinese EVs being cheaper and that we must accept this orchestra of nonsense sounds. But its a trend I see in general with companies and sofywar. People want to cater design and sound for people, curate. But I think the dilemma with software and increasing induvidualism people want to design their layout and data dashboard themselves. This conflict with quality of software I think is what is fueling the dissatisfaction in current computer tecnologies in car dashboard/infotainment and compters, tablets and computers in general. Apple who had for the longest time kept their home screen exactly the same for years is also letting go and allowing a higher tier of personal customization/personalization of the home screen. Android could do it already more advanced for decades. Microsft is trying to find that balance, but recently thinking they want tighter control of the desktop and tablet mode deign by curating the software more tightly than previous editions of windows. For me the company that allows for the highest degrees of freedom with eventually provide the best software experience in the vehicle. Even Tesla has sgown people are dissatisfied that the layout has changed wothout the user veimg able to persinalize the layout they want on the center screen. To me ot is not a surprise this dissatisfaction of a more curated design with the end user having no control of the end user experience. It is in fact a downgrade in essence, because we all know we can do far more with software to cater for the individuel friver/owner. I think in a way the Chinese are doing the same, copied or not. I can understand this behavior of automakers to a degree, because they want to cater for what they think is best for us, preferably through data driven evidence. But I think when it comes to the sofyware experience is where we lose the individual customers wishes to the trying to set the average by skewing buyers to the average, letting peoples preferences in software get lost in translation to the averages. I personally think the big companies want too much control of the software experience. In the long run I think big companies are going to shoot themselves in the foot for this, because a growing part of society is growing up to be more literate with software and customizability. We already have over a decade of experiemce with this with the current smartphone and tablet technologies. That automakers, even Tesla and Chinese automakers want to cater for that too os getting to feel old, fast, frankly since the first Tesla with a big screen hit the market. I think the future of EV software is to simply cater for options of customizability. Options, options options (this also means the option to literally rurn a feature on or off (even turn off the infotainment screen!!!) it should be childsplay by now). I think this will greatly improve the software experience in any EV, from the cheapest to the most expensive EV on the market, today.

For me the bmw i4 with Tesla engineering, would be the perfect car. With this in mind, the things that are wrong with chinese cars (often); Software (as Bjørn says), No Hitch and no Hatch, and often no Frunk either. Edit: Chinese automakers apparently have some of the fastest charging EVs, however i think almost all EVs sold in norway top out at 120kw and many wont get past 80 even. Thats just not good enough
