This figure looks great, but I genuinely don’t get why they didn’t include a flight stand, or why they made the wings move. Showa Gigan’s wings/sails didn’t really move or flap like that, at least not from what I recall. So I don’t really get why they made them move at all.
It’s not only sad how something that could’ve been amazing is held back by so much, but also tragic that the line has been around for more than a decade and each release still feels analogous to loot box mechanics in terms of quality. It’s as if you’ll either receive a S.H.MonsterArts figure or a S.H.FraudsterArts figure.
Yeah the Final Wars Goji really turned me off from the line. I wish Neca had the license still, for a far cheaper price you got a much more durable figure with good articulation and more expressive paint applications, and accessories! Maybe I'll see about the Super7 Ultimates line, though those seem pretty expensive too.
I think it's a complete missed opportunity that gigan didn't get any sort of accessories. Like the Godzilla tower or some blood effects since he's the first to make Godzilla bleed. I feel it would've made total sense if this gigan release had those accessories and then released a showa Ghidorah (if that bootleg is indeed the intended sculpt) that has the greenish blue diamond and fire silhouette that both came in. It would've made for a great complimentary set.
Gigan’s actually pretty tall for a Showa monster, coming in at 65 meters tall while Godzilla and Mechagodzilla are 50 meters tall and Hedorah’s 60 meters tall in his final form. So I’d say the scaling’s alright, all things considered.
I'm still pissed that the Godzilla Minus One Sh Monsterarts is 140 dollars, and includes nothing but the figure. It's the same size as the 1991 Godzilla coming out soon, and that's 100...what the hell. For the price these are they should absolutely include some accessories.
Im Glad we’re getting more Showa. But what we really want is an Anguirus, Showa Mothra, Showa Rodan, King Kong 1962 and a Showa Ghidora. Also Godzilla 1955 was one of my favorites but i’d doubt we’d get it for a long time since G54 is getting reissued again soon. Also Final Wars Anguirus and Rodan might become a thing soon, I also wouldn’t be surprised if Kaiser Ghidora or spitfire G2004 comes to. Im all for complete sets.
Thank you Steven you are honestly the best. I am still getting Gigan because well it’s Gigan, but I’m thanking you because I was able to get my fiancé the 1996 Gamera and I’ve got her the rerelease of GAMERA 1999. So thank you for helping me find out where to get the 96
Damn gigan standing next to hedorah kills the wow factor. Hedorah is one of the bigger showa Kaiju so you will think that the company would take into consideration the scale but no.
After getting the Bandai Movie Monster Series Showa Gigan, I promised myself that I wouldn’t get another 72 Gigan figure unless MEZCO announced that they were doing a Godzilla vs Gigan set but when I found out that Tamashii Nations were doing Classic Gigan for the S.H. MonsterArts line, I couldn’t resist and I preordered him from Forbidden Planets website. However us Kaiju collectors of Great Britain won’t be getting him until October.
That's the shame that this space chicken's sails are fragile and might break if you move them correctly. Hopefully there might be fix, but that's doubtful.
Writing a new comment so it has the possibility of being answered. Do we think this figure has the possibility of undergoing the “Ghidorah trope” and obtaining a not to far away re-release to fix some of the problems it has similarly to the two Ghidorah figures? The Gigan sculpt and paint look amazing but if the engineering is as bad as the Rathalos figure is it really worth it at this point? A new release with a new coat of paint and maybe some accessories might be worth the wait rather than dealing with the current issues like the original Heisei Ghidorah figure. I can imagine this figure getting a new run maybe around the time a Megalon figure gets pushed out in maybe the next 2 or so years. Wonder if it’s worth or not.
Well Gigan did appear alongside Megalon. So if they ever get around to doing that particular set we might get an improved Gigan, but not for a long time. A Jet Jaguar would sell like hot cakes but I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up as an Sh figuarts instead of a monsterarts release.
Can't wait for Hiya to come out with their Showa line so I don't have to pay $100+ dollars for an average figure from a company that's gotten too comfortable having a monopoly in their domestic market.
Love this guy to death and so grateful we’re finally getting more Showa representation, but yeah my Gigan’s left sail/wing broke at the ball joint right out of the box. Gonna try and fix him. Also! Don’t forget his buzzsaw does in fact move up and down, but it’s quite stiff at least on mine so I would be careful.
For my gigan figure the right leg popped off once and I just can't put it back in again. I've benn trying to see what to do to put it back in and doesn't pop off when I move it in the slightest when I can put it back in.
Showa Gigan during 1972 was my most favorite Gigan design 🤩! Unfortunately, i not buy SHM much attempt how expensive this figure is and sometime not really worthy to pick up at all. To be honest, i biggest fan of Ultra Kaiju than Godzilla Kaiju, plus Ultra Kaiju alway in SHF line, that's why i love Ultra Kaiju so much 😊! Overall, super awesome video, Steven 👏🤗.
Thank you for making this review! It's allowed me to decide if I'm getting him or not. And i have decide to not get him. The fins are way too fragile. Even for me. I'm just going to get something else besides him.
Thanks for the review and honest opinion! I ended up buying the Gigan figure since as a kid 1972 Godzilla vs Gigan movie was my favorite, I'm really crossing my fingers for a Showa Angurius Sh.Monsterart and I saw that 72 Godzilla is coming. So hopefully I can get all 4 Kaijus from that movie!
I have the bootleg Showa King Ghidorah figure and the SHMA 1972 Gigan is supposed to be delivered to my house tomorrow, and yes I would love for Tamashii Nations to make an SHMA Anguirus figure.
This vid kinda sealed me on giving up on monsterarts, the price just goes up and the problems get worse. Real shame. (Time to start customizing the vinyl figures woo)
I can't justify the new sh monsterarts, i just don't see where the money is actually going to in these figures. No accessories, not as much paint as they used to, worse quality joints, more QC issues, and they've been marked up significantly for less plastic. The Final Wars Godzilla really blackpilled me on the line so after that point I decided I'll just collect the vinyl figures and super 7 Reaction figures. If NECA still had the license I'd be buying those. Those 30 dollar Godzillas at the end there, 1989 and 2003, blew SH figures out of the water.
I know the quality control still isn't great on many figures but it has gotten better. Especially in terms of loose joints and eye paint (mainly on showa and heisei figures) Also the neca 1989 and 2003 are no where near as good as the shma 89 and 02. Where are you getting that from?
After many years we are finally getting another Showa Godzilla (Not reissue) GODZILLA 1972!! Edit: ok so I finally ordered gigan and MAN I’m afraid about the sails breaking snapping or anything like that so I’m probably never gonna move the sails because I don’t see a use so I might just glue em in maybe
Meh, I think I'll just stick with my Final Wars Gigan. $165USD for a reissue with extra accessories is much more of a deal than $120-130USD for a new figure without accessories. I also got the decisive battle reissue of Mecha King Ghidorah. ~$300USD did sting, but it arguably had much more plastic than FW Gigan, including the additional accessories (such as the second set of wings) (and I did a payment plan instead of outright shelling out that $300).
I really wanted to get this, but seeing how fragile you say this is, I think I’ve got to pass. Really like the honest reviews though, feel like it’s saved me some money 👍🏻
$120-130 for scarily tight joints on the limbs and sails that could easily snap off? Sure, the tight limbs may just be a QC issue, but I'll play it safe and stick with my Bandai Creation Gigan unless we get a rerelease that fixes these issues and uses something BESIDES a clear plastic balljoint for the sails.
SH is just overpriced garbage at this point.... you could bye a second hand neca pacific rim kaiju at somewhere around that price and get two and a half times the figure even if you have to pay some guy an arm and a leg... nothing from SH seems to be worth the asking price anymore.
Would of ditched the catching light thing with the sails as a whole and make the joints solid, opaque plastic instead. I'd rather take a lasting over a pointless aesthetic look.
The reason gigan doesn’t have accessories is probably bc in 1972 we don’t see any accessories in the film no beam no new hands the only thing that they should have is a head with a closed mouth
I really don't understand the SH prices... i feel like for 100$ they would have way more quality and SH is becoming like how i think of mafex after getting wonder woman and superman, it's really like you get a better sculpted marvel legends that's not as big for 5x the price. This goes for most figmas too and i hope neca is able to get some more godzilla out because they seem to be killing it and you don't really need to fix the paint work like you do with mcfarlane. I'm just not sold on these flimsy over priced things...
