    Very curious about REPAIRING the compression post.
    Lived on a 79 Cat 30 YEAR ROUND
    in RI ... I could have had a great You Ytube Channel
    Loved that boat. Got chased off by kidney cancer.
    Shopping again. Real interested in another C30 because" I know it."
    God I let it go cheap. It was top notch.
    All I did was impove it all the time.
    Keeping an eye open for the CP fix...
    House jack ????
    Where? How?

      So my friend decided to pass on this yacht
      If your interested let me know
      Basically need to cut out the stub then install the jack
      The jack is rather small and is only 160 on Amazon

    Water leaks on stbd chain plate as witnessed by stains on top of hanging locker. Both chain plates need to be removed, inspected for crevice corrosion (cracks), and replaced if bad (or just replaced..) Replacements available from Garhaurer Marine and/or Catalina Direct). Then reinstalled with proper sealant.

    • @Sailing.Artemis
      @Sailing.Artemis  3 місяці тому

      Yes the entire boat needed to be gone through the new owner opted to do the leaks and deck on her own however it is coming along nicely

    Bryan, I made my own keel socket. I went to menards and bought 2 11/8 inch. Deep sockets cut the one-off and welded it to the end of the other socket. Of course, lined the flats up on the inside. Then ground it off and painted it came out. Great cost me 20 bucks, maybe 22 bucks.

    • @Sailing.Artemis
      @Sailing.Artemis  8 місяців тому +2

      I was thinking about doing the same thing for a friend
      My socket was over $100

    Nice job with the survey!! Be sure to use a closed cell foam to encapsulate the house jack when you replace the mast step.

    What are your thoughts on the water intrusion effecting the compression post? Seal between the deck and mast possibly compromised?

    • @Sailing.Artemis
      @Sailing.Artemis  Рік тому +1

      No I believe it to be years of ice box and shower sitting in the bilge
      However I do plan on performing a bunch of tests to see if we have leaks
      This is one reason when I vacuum out artemis's bilge every time I put ice in the box

    I’m surprised you didn’t use a. Moisture Meter to check the rudder from to bottom, the check the hull for moisture, and to check the entire deck and coachhouse roof for moisture. A replacement or rebuild to a rudder is $7,000 and wet deck repairs are $1,000 per square foot. You did not give estimate to replace compression post mast stud, which has rotted. You did not seem to examine the rigging or chain plates. Seems a very cursory examination. I would have paid a licensed Marine Surveyor who used a moisture meter and who provided a written report and current actual market value based on its actual condition to see whether I wanted to purchase the boat, and to negotiate the price I would offer. I would also get a marine mechanic to evaluate the condition of the engine, including compression test for each cylinder and the output amps of the alternator.
