0:03 | Creating separate text (with text tool)
- Select the Text tool in the toolbar at the top of the editor (or press the 8 key on your keyboard). Click on the canvas where you want the text to be and start typing.
0:10 | Creating separate text (with double click)
- Just double-click anywhere on the canvas and start typing.
0:19 | Creating text within objects
- This is also very easy. First you need to create an object (rectangle, diamond, circle or arrow) to place the text inside. So select the shape tool of your preference, create that shape on the canvas and create the text using:
-- Enter (0:20, 0:42): press the Enter key while you have the shape selected, and start typing,
-- Double-click (0:27, 0:50): double-click on the shape you have created and start typing,
-- Text tool (0:35, 0:59): select the text tool and click anywhere on the created object.
1:07 | Advanced text functionality
- 1:10 - Any text you write can easily be wrapped in the container (1:13). Just create the text using the text tool or double click. When the text is complete, right-click on it and select Wrap text in a container. And voila, a rectangle will appear around the text (you can change its appearance in the preference pane on the left).
- 1:24 - You get a similar result if you create the text and the rectangle separately. So create the text either using the text tool or via a double-click. And create the shape of your choice. Select both text and shape, right click on the selection and choose Bind text to container. Once the text is bound to the shape, it can be unbound again (just right-click on the shape and select Unbind text).
1:45 | Customizing text
- Customize the text you have created using the preferences panel on the left side of the editor (note that the text you want to customize must be selected first). You can set:
* Color (stroke) - note that this video was made before we've released a newer version of color picker (with more colors and shades), but the idea is still the same
* Font size (S / M / L / XL)
* Font family (Hand-drawn / Normal / Code)
* Text align (Left / Center / Right)
Note that if the text is bound to the shape, changing the stroke and opacity will change the stroke+opacity of the shape too. If you want to have a different color+opacity of the text, you first need to unbind the text (= have the shape and text separate).

TIP: Combine text with lines, arrows, basic shapes and layering (also available in the left-sided preference bar at the bottom) to create diagrams, wireframes, mind maps or graphic designs in a unique handwritten style!

how do you make the text on top/outside of the diagram and not center/inside?
If you mean to add it as a bound text, but outside the shape, that's not possible at the moment. You can just create the text outside and maybe group it together with the shape (cmd/ctrl+G).
i have excali on Obsidian.. anywya to change font?? i dont mind the OG font it comes with but its too "much" imo
Obsidian integration is not our work, so we can’t give you a proper advice and you have to ask the creator directly. You can do so on our Discord server (discord.gg/8yuXRk9V), where we have a dedicated channel just for Obsidian, which is managed by Zsolt (the creator of the plugin).
I'm trying to write on pdfs in portrait mode.... is it possible to move the stroke box?
I'm not sure what you mean by "stroke box". The preferences panel on the left?
I am unable to draw a curved arrow using macbook trackpad. how to do it . thanks.
Hello, in order to create a curve, you first need to create a multi-point arrow (or line). Once you've done that, you can set the edges in the preferences panel on the left to the round option. Check out the tutorial for how to create arrows here: ua-cam.com/video/XW2ydQLKM6I/v-deo.html
@@excalidraw Thanks. Actually posted wrong question. I would like to draw a zigzag arrow. How to do that in macbook using its trackpad. I saw you tutorial, but I am unable to do so.
It's basically the same as with a mouse, but you have to use the bottom left side of the trackpad to click. So you click on the canva, move to where you want the next vertex, click again, and repeat this process until the desired shape is complete. Then press the Escape key to finish creating the arrow.
The only difference between a single line/arrow and a multi-point line/arrow is that with a single arrow you will be dragging from one point to another. However, you have to click (not drag) to create a complex line/arrow.
Why does breaking text with enter not work in Logseq with embedded Excalidraw?

@@excalidrawThere isn't much I can say. I try hitting enter and it does nothing. Shift+Enter also does nothing. I recall it working when I started using Logseq.

@supernova6553 Unclear what is going on in Logseq. We'd recommend raising an issue/bug report with them. If it turns out it's an issue we can fix ourselves, they'll let us know! 🙏
