I had a lazy week of recovery until Friday when I tested negative for covid. I wanted to be sure as I could that I was over it. I was bored and used my phone for entertainment. I hope you have a better week.
Ugggh I am so sorry about the dog skunk incident! I'm glad it's less stinky now. It's been a bit rough for me lately, a lot of mental health-related stuff, plus the political climate and its horrific impact on my general region of the state... not to mention a medley of apartment-related things. I'm looking forward to cooler temperatures and to the maintenance folks having the windows replaced on my unit (and therefore not needing to come into my apartment!)
When you do a livestream I'll watch something else. Guess it's grumpy Monday. Livestreams are so less than pleasant for me. Even watching them later is dicey. Too much something. Not enough something else. But maybe that day I'll look for a porch coffee episode blast from the past. Late diagnosed or late getting a clue, getting to know the part of me whose many preferences have caused much misunderstanding and misalignment is a step. Toward what? Acceptance. Meltdown prevention. Burnout prevention. Worthy pursuits. Happy Monday.
Hello Claire. I am sorry about your Dog. getting sprayed by a skunk. And i had a rough weekend. I had to have blood work done at the hospital. And i have a fear of needles. And i had a meltdown and i cried.
As others have said I can relate, I am not a fan of needles and even to get blood taken I have to look away and brace myself and hold my breath. I'm not able to relax or look at it.
Good morning Claire. The skunk experience does stink, I have been there as well. I really love how you try to be kind to yourself. You radiate comfort to us all. Even when you are grumpy. Did not notice. I am new at this, so still learning not to beat myself up so much. Getting there. Looking forward to your podcast, which is always educational and entertaining.
Oh, I'm so sorry about the skunk! I know how debilitating the olfactory overwhelm can be. I had the good(?) fortune to grow up way out in the sticks, so some odors that should upset me don't - skunk, hog farm - but I can still get ruined by a number of scents - garbage, fish/ocean (New Orleans' French Quarter is like strolling through downtown hell). My childhood dog only got skunk-sprayed once, and I live in a city now so my current dog doesn't have to worry about it (which is good because he is both scrappy and stupid, so it would happen all the time). My last week: nuthin' My next week: prolly nuthin' 😅 Hope your week has sumthin' and is happy!
Autumn! So nice to see your collection! My mom was a geology major, so I grew up collecting rocks. My daughter, Alice, loves collecting treasures on her way to the bus stop! Both my kids are in school, and I'm still not used to it after 2 weeks. My daughter is thriving, but my son is struggling. It makes it hard to relax. I'm going to try to keep myself busy this week so I can keep my mind busy. I hope you have a great week, Claire and friends! 💞
O fun. I can't help but collect rocks and other treasures. I passed it on to my daughter too, we were going out rock collecting sometimes together it was nice
My son is struggling as well. They changed a lot of school rules over the Summer. The worst is that he managed to bring home COVID within the first week of school..(AGAIN)
Hey girl ❤❤ my week has been good! My boyfriend quit his 3rd job so we got to spend a day in nature and I was so excited and happy, I brought home a pine cone. I made blueberry banana muffins today. And I was back at work after being off due to what looks like FND symptoms. I have bloodwork coming up too to get the FND (or whatever it is) diagnosed. I had no energy yesterday after my walk to rested and am catching up today. So sorry about the skunk smells ❤❤❤
Sounds like a pleasant day - I once took home a HUGE pinecone from the mountains. I was shocked when the weather turned that it opened up! I hope things go well with the FND bloodwork.
Good morning, Claire. I have never dealt with that with my two dogs thankfully but I do worry for the possibility, especially living in a rural area. I can imagine just how terrible and overwhelming this had to have been. I have had my own clutter and dirtiness that makes me want to scream lately. Taking care of my husband and homeschool leads to no time for much else. Resorting to waking up super early to do the cleaning and straightening now. Thankfully, he is improving. Proud of how he is picking up and pushing through. We see the neurosurgeon Thursday so we will see how that goes...Looking forward to the podcast later and hoping for a blessed week full of beautiful scents to erase the bad. ❤
A few years ago, I came across a skunk between the neighbor's house. Skunk was shocked too. Thank goodness I didn't get sprayed from 10 ft away Im ready for cool too 😎 Great week y'all
Hey Claire, Watching in the afternoon today been busy tiring out the kittens all morning. They are 10 weeks old tomorrow and full of energy😂. Great show and tell again. Never had a problem with skunks spray what with being in the UK, but I know the smell and wow, sorry that happened to you. Hope you have a nice and productive week
Sorry to here about your sensory hell, hope you and the dog will do better this week! Last week was good. I had some really good workouts at the gym, and did som small but for me a huge stepp on challenging my "mild ocd"😊 (I done know what its called in English when its not clinical diagnosable OCD, but rather symptom of me just being autistic)😅. Hope you all have a safe and regulated week every one.
Oh no! So sorry to hear about your pup's skunk encounters! How terrible for the smell to hit you when you're falling asleep - I can't fall asleep with strong cooking smells, I can't even imagine skunk smell, which never seems to go away.
Hey there Claire! I'm joining the Cranky Club today, due to crappy sleep. I have a really good merch idea for you: a stim toy that sings "Sensory Hell" when you squeeze it. Remember me when you make millions lol.
combining a live episode with a somewhat silent coffee with occasional words mixed in would be kind of relaxing, I think… And speaking of coffee, I need to make mine because I took way too long to formulate that sentence without it (it being the coffee) in my system. Because it’s Monday I’m going to use my little porch coffee camping mug, it’s so cute and I love it. OK, going to listen to the rest of this video now while I make my COFFEEEEEEEEEE ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️🤎
I hope you enjoyed your coffee! 99% of the time I am drinking my first cup of coffee while I film these so I appreciate everyones patience and kindness lol cause it is a struggle. If i didn't edit it would be so long. I should put one out that isn't edited.
We had a super sweet rottweiler years ago that got sprayed by a skunk in our back yard one evening years ago when we lived in the southern tier of NYS. It was a late weeknight (like 10 pm) and we had just gotten home from my teen son's dress rehearsal for a play. I let the dogs out and then flipped on the backyard lights just in time to see her cornering the skunk. Not in an aggressive way, but curious. Well, the skunk didn't get the memo that Bailey was a sweetie pie and it turned-tail and let loose. My poor girl ran straight back to the door and the cleanup chaos began. That 'newly sprayed' smell is so insanely potent and NOTHING like I had smelled a million times before out and about. It burned my eyes and nose immediately. We got her in the tub and all tomato juiced. Several times. So, the next night it was my turn to be on stage mom duty. During the end of the first act, I heard someone say, "WHY do I keep smelling skunk?" With an immense amount of embarrassment, I raised my hand and said it was me... Outside of the bathroom we bathed the dog is the back entry hall and where I hung my purse. I had no idea, but the smell had permeated everything in that hallway. Soooo awful. Kinda funny now but not at the time. 😂
YESSS I am glad you pointed this out - the just sprayed smell is nothing like smelling it later or from afar. Esp if the dog has the oil on them - it really shocks you. I'm sorry it spread to your stuff too that sucks
Good morning Claire! ✨️ Omg, I'm so sorry to hear about your skunk experience.. I've never smelled that before myself but smells are one of my biggest triggers, it makes me angry long before I even realise I'm angry, but a skunk?!? I'm sure it would've exploded my brain and body.. 😬🙈 I can completely understand why that set you off for a couple of days! 🥀 But even so, you managed to get a lot of things done, so wow, that's amazing.. 💜✨️ Thank you Autumn, for showing us your bugs and rocks! 💜🧚♀️✨️ I have my own little crystal collection, I just love beautiful, enchanting rocks.. ✨️🧚♀️💜 They don't have to be crystals even, I find other rocks beautiful and enchanting as well, some of them are filled with strange, calming, uplifting, strengthening, etc energies, and I love it.. 💜✨️ I'm not so interested in dead bugs, I like them alive.. 😅🤭 It's not like I throw a funeral and mourn every dead bugs or tiny animals I see, but I tend to say a little "I'm sorry and pout appropriately" before I go on with my life.. 😹 But live insects and small animals will get my attention, I often take them out of the road and into the grass next to the pavement, make sure I don't step on them while walking, stop and have a little chat if no one's around to see me.. 👀😹 And by small animals I mean snails and tiny frogs and such.. 🤭 I definitely talk with squirrels also when they come around but they rarely need my help for anything.. My week isn't much, wasn't much.. I managed to hang up some curtains, so it's more appropriate for wintertime, some thicker ones that'll hopefully keep more of the warmth inside my apartment.. Yeah, that's basically all I managed to do this week.. This week my girls are coming, so I'm a bit excited about that, hopefully it'll also give me some energy and motivation to do some more work, but I'll see.. 🤷🏻♀️ Thank you Claire, for keeping me company, ✨️💜Internet Friends💜✨️ I'm looking forward to porch coffee all week, and now I'm looking forward to your podcast episode with Amanda, I like her so I'm very excited to hear what you guys were chatting about.. 💜 I wish you an amazing week and see you soon.. ✨️🧚♀️ (In your next video of course, not something creepy 😅)
Oh no, no wonder you’re a cranky Claire! We have lots of skunks around here too, but I’ve thankfully never had a close encounter with the spray like that. I’m so sorry! I hope the rest of your week is much, much better.
Also! Autumn's share was awesome! I don't have any cool deceased insects, but I've had some cool living moths turn up at my workplace recently. Of course they're all common and some are invasive, but I don't know any better until after I'm done cooing at them and taking their pictures. 😂 We need more of that kind of joy in our lives.
I saw a Luna moth at work at a gas station one time, I thought it was terribly exciting, I kept checking to see if it was still there, so cool. It's hard to keep on with your annoying job when there's cooler things to do like see a moth lol
@@Holly-tw6bt it was so cool the other day at the school playground on the weekend, my kids and I were watching this fuzzy yellow caterpillar crawling for quite a while, nature is so cool
I love moths too! Just as pretty as butterflys IMO - where we used to go camping as a child, the moths would gather around the bathroom building around the one light. There would often be luna moths and we would stop to look at them
I just spent an hour trying to twists roots out of the sewage pipe - not with my hands - a drain snake. Still seems a bit clearer now, hopefully it won't cost me another £140 to get it unblocked if I keep it clear before it's bad. Coffee now with my American buddy Clare :D Hang on that is your name ...isn't it. Love ya xxx
Thanks for another awesome porch coffee. So sorry to hear you had the skunk incident, and remaining hopeful that your dog will learn!! Absolutely love Autumn's collection and photos!! 🦋The most interesting dead thing I have found, apart from fossils, was not an insect. I found this beautiful translucent paper nautilus shell on a windy, rocky beach. It was incredible that it was completely intact, even though it was extremely delicate. Sending wishes that everyone has a great week, and in particular that it is free of skunk smell ✨
When I was a young teen I found a mummy-dried complete bat between the stones of a wall in the cellar of a castle we went every year to with our schools choir. That was the most interesting dry dead animal I ever found. It was used for schools biology collection I think, it's decades ago. And I have some very small bones I found on walks outside, no idea of which animal they are. Mice? Translucent snails... Yesterday I saw a video about a glass frog! Did You ever hear of them? You can see their heart pumping and the intestinals through their skin, I was fascinated. And spent an hour or two doing a very tiny online research about different glass frogs. And then about frogs as pets (nope, as I don't want to have to feed living insects to a pet, but I read about for an hour anyways🤦🏽♀️).
@@WoodshedTheory I found it on a holiday and I was on the other side of the country, so it would have disintegrated in my luggage if I brought it home. Instead, I left it with the friend I was visiting at the time. It is a beautiful memory 🌌
Skunk spray, UGH!! A couple years ago our late cat Loki got sprayed directly, like DIRECTLY, in the eyeballs. Poor thing was screaming and his eyes were swollen shut. Trying desperately to help him, we bathed him in a concoction of things in the house that I had researched. I could barely open my own eyes and my sinuses were on fire working on him; the pungency was insane! Finally we got him cleaned up, mostly smelling better, and his sorry eyes were able to open a little. The funny part... he was a black cat that now had blond streaks in his hair for the summer because one of the things we used was hydrogen peroxide! (Don't worry, we only used water on his actual eyes.) Afterwards, we would joke about his "summer highlights", haha poor guy!
OMG! I told my german indoorcat that is purring on its pillow next to my head what happened trying to explain what a skunk could be! I didn't know that it is also hurting, I thaught they just pee? I mean, pee in eyes is probably not a good idea at all, but that the poor cat was long time affected by this...poor little cat!
leslie sounds like you really understand me - i'm sorry you went through it as well. we have also been laughing about my dogs new lighter hair. for his head i made a paste out of all the ingredients to sit on his face for a bit and that lightened his hair color a shade or two
@katzen - they spray an oily substance that is very difficult to clean off. the smell can burn your eyes and nose it is no wonder they have developed it to keep predators away
@@WoodshedTheory my research showed it is that thing they produce in their anal glands. And THAT is a thing that smells horrible on every animal producing it. I found out about that horrible stuff after my indoor cats lost a bit of it in the now 16 years living with me. Not very often, maybe three times together which is not too often if its two cats, so 32 for one... It stinks like hell and no detergent helped to clean it away, even on skin the smell sticks after washing, ewww! So of cause I did online research and found out it's that thing You often see as a crust I thought is dry poop stickig there. But no, there are those two little holes next to there anus and there this fluid is produced, like the famous "musc" at this big bulls used for Parfums (yep...). Normally it comes out every time they poop, that's why it stinks so bad. They can use it to mark territory, which makes no sense on cats for me as they normally cover there poop to not let predators know where they or their kittens are (in the desert where they origin from). If the mark, they use scratching or pee-mark. This looks like the skunk does, tail up and horizontal spray, why I thought skunks also use urin. So I think anal glands on cats are just a bad joke of G*d, nature or whatever 🤷🏽♀️ The idea of this horrible smell in a big amount is freaking me out!!!! I am very very sorry for every one of You who had to experience that!
Im sorry to hear about your terrible skunk incident Claire, that's rough. I haven't yet had a dog as an adult but as a kid the family dog did get sprayed sometimes, what a bad smeller lol. He was such a sweetie, then if u pet him u would smell bad too. Giving a dog a bath doesnt sound that great either. Now i just have an indoor cat so i don't need to worry about such things but i do get a surprise vomit or poop piece to clean up sometimes lol
Hello Claire 👋🏾 oh no, your skunk/pup experience was wild …poor doggo. Having to clean him twice …that’s annoying. Feeling similarly to you today, although there’s plenty of sunshine so can’t help but be a little uplifted. Loved Autumn’s special interests: I commend her bravery collecting bugs🦋🐝 🐞, I also love to pick up rocks from the beach. The crystals are beautiful indeed and so were the photos. 😍 I am looking forward to the next episode of Autistic people Talking: I like Amanda’s channel. 🖖🏾
Good Morning Claire. As usual I was alert enough to realize it was over an hour since porch talk aired. I did not receive a notification. At 7:40AM now I'm watching second time :) I needed to hear some other's experiences in overload as I am dealing with my own. Thanks Claire for everything you do!
We don't have skunks fortunately but our dog did roll in fox poo once which was horrendous. We were out on a walk so had to travel home with an incredibly smelly dog! The car stank for weeks!!!!
Oh yes, fox pee is a thing the dog I cared for loved to roll on🙄 And another years before found a dead fish someone left next to river we walked by in hot summer and parfumed itself so intensly rolling on it he lost control and fell into the river. Problem was that in Berlin it has solid stone walls on many places, also that one. Therefor he wasn't able to get out again there and panicked. A big dog size of a shepherds dog with long fur. He didn't got that on the other side it was flat and he could walk out easily when we went over the bridge and called him so I ended up lying flat on the grass to be able to grap the panicked totally wet dog paddling while my then maybe eight yo son was holding my feet to prevent me from falling into the river too and somehow managed to get the stupid stinky and now also wet dog out. Of cause I was then also very wet and stinky and we had to walk home from the park home in central Berlin...
Hi Claire, I hope that the skunk smell has gone completely and you have your dog as usual. Great autism show and tell. Weather feels a combination of summer and autumn. I've been busy as I am a volunteer in a school library. Nice to see you and have a great week ❤
Hi Claire, sorry to hear about your skunked dog. It happened to my previous dog, because he tried to make friends with a skunk, which I guess he didn't know is not possible. My current dog hasn't been skunked, but I know the feeling of the horrible smell of skunk because I have one living under my deck. They usually spray 2-3 times per week and about 10-20feet from my apartment windows. So if the windows are open (to try to vent all the damn summer heat) the skunk smell gets sucked in right away. I really don't think that words can describe just how horrendous the smell is, especially when it gets indoors. It gives me migraines and makes me sick! Anyway, glad your dog is starting to smell better! Have a good week.
😳 I have really no idea how it smells living in Germany but the more I read I get it must be horrible. Is it possible to call someone to get this skunk that terrorizes You and relocate it somewhere where it can leave in peace and doesn't harm anyone?
i am sorry about your skunk issue - it is difficult when they move in under houses because they are around all the time and usually getting scared and spraying.
@@WoodshedTheory that's why I thaught of professionels using clever traps maybe with sleeping-pills-food or whatever, full-body-protection. People get payed for cleaning apartments in which dead bodies are found or whatever, so why not helping people with skunks living to near to humans and help both living in peace, far away from each other? I did a little skunk research after this episode of cause and found there are people having them as pets, so there must be a way, hm?
@@WoodshedTheory The skunk got me again last night at 1am! Apparently you have skunks who watch your channel now! But yes, when they are around your house there is not much you can do.
I have collected pretty rocks from places I've been since I was a kid, it always strikes others as weird of me but that's ok. I'm not organized enough to be able to present it all as a collection. Coolest bug death experience was when I was 10 years old a huge butterfly landed on me, laid eggs on my shirt over the course of like an hour, then died on my shirt. I may have tried to keep it, idr it was 37 years ago, I'm sure if I tried to keep it someone stopped me.
Hi Claire, I'm so sorry that happened to you and your dog. I don't currently have a pet, but in the past when I have, I always got super stressed out whenever something would go wrong with them, to the point of almost being paralyzed. I started a new job a month ago, and as of this week am finally working on some projects. Feeling nervous to get underway...
Aww that sounds awful. I can’t relate to a dog being sprayed by a skunk but my stubborn and not very bright terrier mutt routinely 💩’s in the house and has stepped in it with his very hairy feet while I’m asleep or at work and tracked it everywhere, and even worse, one time my dumb orange cat stepped in the dog’s poo once while I was asleep and tracked it in places I never thought a poopy foot would be touching 😳😳😳 So I understand the overwhelm that happens with furbaby catastrophes!
Oh my god, that's baaad😳! Must be an orange cat thing as my steps in her own vomate and leaves wet footprints I can clean then🙄 I think I would just burn down the house if that would happen being totally to much to be able to deal with if it would be dog poop instead of clear slime in which some cat hairball swims...😫
@@katzenbekloppt_mf I haven’t had as many meltdowns since getting my other (much smarter) kitty because she was very shy at first and I wanted to be really calm for her, and that really helped remind me to use my coping skills as much as possible. I can say with confidence that 90% of the meltdowns I’ve had in the last two years have involved dog 💩, I was pretty impressed with myself for not having an immediate meltdown when I discovered the poopy cat prints but I was not a happy human in that moment! Especially because it was before coffee 🙈🙈🙈 And omg, orange cats are competing ridiculous, I completely believe the theory that they all share one brain cell 😹😹😹
@@nifferscritters I just saw that Your image is an orange cat in a superman-costume😻😹 Hahaha! In fact mine is my cat too - "around the corner"😉 It is THE argentinian comic-figure "Mafalda" and my cat is named after her. I always thought she was much more clever then her brother (We adopted both from a farm, baby kittens covered in fleas and my then small son wanted a male cat looking like the famous swedish childrens book figure "Findus", a tiger cat and named him after him, so I came up with Mafalda for his sister.) My last and one of my lifetimes biggest shutdowns was the tragic dead of Findus in april. I did not speak for a lot of days, did not eat etc. and used harmful stims in a way that shocked myself afterwards. I think as we live that close with animals of cause they have a great impact on our life, it can be very good and helpful but on the other hand cause the same amount of pain. I feel much closer to animals then to most humans.
Hi, Claire! Over the weekend, I drove up to Boston from NYC in my new EV to visit family - my Mom, two brothers, one sister-in-law, and two nephews. Every charging station presented a new challenge to overcome, and I expect things to go smoother next time. As far as collecting dead bugs goes, I have a collection of cicada shells that are molted when they emerge from underground.
Hi Jeff, I hope you enjoyed the trip. I am very interested in getting an EV but I think you just pinpointed one of my concerns and that is charging anxiety. I haven't seen a cicada since I was a teen but I like the idea of collecting the shells.
I've stop compting how many time my boy Tobs tryed to play with a skunk, he was with me for nearly 17 years. The only thing he learnd from the first experience is "mom can help me"...... all the following enconter he would come to me with a big " sory help!" expression in his eyes and go in the shower by himself😂 Now I have a rehomed 13yo malamute, he got sprayed few weeks ago, I had the magical thinking that he would react the same as Tobs... did not happened... that was worse that even the first with Tobs. Choco, the malamute, did not go to the shower, he roled everywhere in the house including my bed and I ended hup runing after him with a spray bottle.... the recepie with hydrogen peroxyde and soda work amazing, if the dog let you.....
oh no! sounds like we have had this in common. We also used the hydrogen peroxide, dawn dish soap, and baking soda. It really does work well but nothing really gets the smell out of the mouth, eyes, and ears.
Only time I have had a really strong exposure to skunk spray was when I was under ten and my dad had to get a skunk out of our garage, he used fireworks and I can not remember what they are called even though I can see them pictured in my mind from memory. I hear tomato juice is good for removing skunk spray but I have no first hand knowledge so I am interested in you used that and how effective it was. Skunk spray and dead animal smell both do not bother me like I have seen it bother others, a small selection of people actually like those smells.
Hello, I haven't used tomato juice before because there is a consensus in my research the best things to use are hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dawn dish soap. I've also used commercial skunk spray cleaners. I would say that skunk smell doesn't usually bother me if for example I am driving through the smell it's more of a bother, but when it is fresh and in a closed space it is super intense I hope no one else has to experience it.
So glad you and Amanda could connect, and thanks for sharing it with us, too. ( Side note about skunks: the legality varies by state, but some people have pet skunks, and there was a video 6 years ago at the " Vice" channel that involved a skunk fest in Ohio. Legal pet arrangements often involve the spray glands being removed when they are young. ( I didn't know that their fur patterns have more variety, the range of their special needs, or that some people register them as support animals.)
Whoa, skunks can be the worst Well I got offered to be a coach at the gym that I've been going to Well if just the good parts to keep it positive There was another earthquake I guess that means well I guess finally get rain to help fight the fires My friend wants to get on the etymology field for her webcomic I leg pressed five plates ( 500lbs + before work ) I got excited last week for deadlifting three plates (Some weird ad through me off same like last stop following me commercial) Anyways I Got in to trying to start November early
Loved Autumn's show and tell - bugs are fascinating! I think the most interesting dead bug I've found is a large dragonfly, it was beautifully iridescent and exquisite. I do prefer them to be alive and flying around, but it was nice to be able to appreciate it's beauty. I hope your dog is smelling better now 🫣
Very cool collection, Autumn, and I loved your pics! Claire, boo on the skunk spraying. That's so not fun. I hope you have a much better week going forward.
First, I’m SO sorry to hear about the skunking, that sounds AWFUL!!! My heart goes out to you, I hope you’re able fully re-regulate soon. ❤️ Second, I am so excited to hear that you had a talk with Amanda! She’s wonderful, I can’t wait to watch the episode! Yay!! 😁
Good morning Claire! It has been a long week for me. Not bad, just long. Hard to focus as my main living area is under remodel and it's completely torn apart right now. I'm pondering whether to sell, give, or use some yarns that I don't like or that hurt for me to use. I am wishy washy on the whole decision. I have gotten a good bit of crochet & knitting done. Actually, that's all that I want to do lately, so I must be more stressed than I'm actually aware of, since obsessing on my craft beyond the point of physical comfort is a stress response for me. I will choose physical discomfort in order to make mental discomfort less, if that's the choice presented. I'll have to try to get a handle on that this week. I think I'm in need of some "hiding" days. This is when I avoid people as much as possible and recharge my mental battery. Hope you have a better sensory week this week. Take care, 🥰
Hi Claire! So sorry to hear about the skunk incident. I cannot even imagine how horrible that is. Enjoyed Autumn's collections.. very cool! Over here we are away for a few days for our anniversary. Just chilling after a full day. I also received a shirt ("being perceived" shirt) I purchased from your store. I bought it for my daughter for her upcoming birthday. She is going to love it! It is so awesome!
Claire, so sorry to hear about your skunk incident, it must have been a rough week. One time a skunk sprayed the side of my house. Even though it was outside the rooms on that side of the house smelled so awful for a week I couldn't go in there.
first of all, i'm sorry you had to experience the skunk spray again, i remember watching that pod a couple of years ago...my week ended on a high note having a dinner date with the hubby to celebrate my b-day. love the live porch coffee idea, i tend to watch the episode before keri and mara saturday mornings or first on sunday morning. how about trying to schedule it when you would normally do the filming? from my own knowledge, i think it helps to keep a routine going for those living on the neo-differvice way of life.
I (formerly Jen Fursketeer) finally have an idea of what I want to submit for an autism show and tell, I can’t wait to record it! I’ll have to figure out how to combine clips into one video, I’ve never done that before, but I’m excited to learn! You are motivating me to learn what I need to learn in order to start my own channel (hence the name change)! 😺
hi Jen, I can't wait to see the video - there are some free video editors out there per your preference - some computers even come with editing software. I use the software on my computer, I also use canva a lot. can't wait to see what you come up with - but also it is okay to send in something that is all one shot.
Hello Claire I hope you don't have to worry about the skunk it's history for you by the way I have my coffee this morning and recover from covid and return to work this morning
Looking forward to that podcast episode! 😊 I have fortunately only been subject to drive-by skunk smells, but honestly, those are bad enough. It makes the air taste bad. My heart is with you and your family during this difficult time. Our old house had odorless cigarette smoke damage, and it really seems to have stained our things. So even though we’ve moved, my partner is still having allergic reactions to our things. I have to launder and wipe down every belonging of ours 😅 I honestly wish it did have some sort of (mild) scent so I could detect the issue. I keep getting piles of clean vs not clean mixed up and then my partner gets hives and asthma 🤦♀️ it’s been a real mindf**k.
@@WoodshedTheory yeah. 3rd hand smoke (strange name, but that’s what it’s called…) is the smell/chemicals that get left behind on items that you smoke around. Especially with walls and carpets, the residues get absorbed and they’re hard to get rid of. My landlord had cleaned the house to the point of it not smelling anymore, but the smelly chemicals aren’t necessarily the ones that cause chronic health issues. My partner uses medicinal… herbs… and has no health problems from them, but we were both very effected by the cigarette smoke damage.
The closest I've been to a skunk experience was a family holiday to Rotorua, New Zealand. This town is built on top of geothermic hotspot, caldera/hot springs/etc, the smell of sulphur blankets the entire town. It was not a pleasant place for an autistic to visit. The entire town was a skunk experience.
Ok first...we need to see the puppy dog!!! =D second...I ALWAYS worried about this with my dog. there were possums that lived under our shed. I was glad they were not skunks. I always thought I would deeply consider throwing away my dog and getting a new one that did not smell if it ever happened. Of course, I would not really throw my dog away... but the extremes of the skunk smell would have me quick ponder if it was possible... HAHAH... Please know I loved my dog! He was the best! He was a yellow Lab all white and passed away at 15! The Smartest goodest boi ever!
Hi Claire i was wondering how do us asd deal with someone who's ghosting us for me its very emotional and draining my energy... their not much info on asd and coping with being ghosted by someone
Thankfully there are no skunks in UK so no idea what that smells of or how strong. Sorry you had to go through this again. Seems your dog isn't learning from experience. Hopefully you can tell I'm now out of hospital (since last Tuesday - I was there for 1wk). The robotic operation went very well, was all completed robotically and with no need for a stoma. It took about 5 hrs. The cut made to extract the offending piece has been quite painful and thoughtfully placed right where I usually put clothing waistbands. The care plan I made with my counsellor was only partially successful - there were a couple of stuff ups but we knew things wouldn't be perfect. I did feel a lot more supported this time, being close to home helped. Overall a much better ward stay than previously. I don't think I picked up any new trauma. I'm quite mobile and looking after myself (my brother stayed over a few days at the start). Pain is slowly becoming more manageable and I'm sleeping better and feeling better. Probably the biggest issue is my bowel function as it's all over the place. I spent pretty much all Sunday on the loo. I've been told this may take a while to settle down. Weeks to months. It's the worst part for me. I'm hopeful this will improve. All that gym work I did I think has been very useful in recovering to this level this quickly. I do have keep reminding myself that I now have NO tumours and theoretically cancer free. I'll know more about that at the start of October.
i hope you never had to smell skunk, esp. fresh and up close. i am so glad the the surgery went well, thank you for keeping us updated and i hope the recovery is smooth and quick. Fingers crossed for a negative test on the cancer front.
I don’t know if it’s the coolest dead bug I’ve ever found but it was really pretty…a blue-eyed cicada. And I’m not a huge fan of cicadas…I lived thru one 17-year-locust invasion on the East Coast and it was gross! But the one I found here in the middle of the country was impressive! Sorry about the skunky dog incident! Sounds really horrible!!!! Intense smells can give me migraines so while I’ve never had a pet get skunked, I can imagine how shocking and awful it was. My week…we’ve been selling our house so we’ve had lots of times that we had to clear out for showings and an open house. I’m surprised, but I guess I needn’t be, at how much energy (spoons) it’s taken out of me. Your rubber band stretched thin and could snap at any minute example is exactly how I’ve felt. Only instead of crying I’m on the edge of getting angry. So. Not. Fun. Le sigh… Hope this week is better for you! I’m looking forward to your podcast but believe me, I get not having the ability to edit!!!! So whenever it arrives it will be welcome but no pressure to get it done. 😊
@@kellyschroeder7437 wild... I have never seen an episode of that series, I think it was not shown in Germany and also never met a skunk as we don't have them here and also not in that region of Argentina where my dad came from. Just looked them up; thought they are much bigger, like a wild pig. They look so beautiful with their fluffy tail, like a giant squirrel in black and white.

Oof! That's horrible! I've never experienced a pet being sprayed. And your poor dog got sprayed and probably just wanted to go home. I don't know, are dogs offended by the smell? They seem to be alright getting the smell of dead animals all over themselves on purpose. Anyway, I hope that the smell goes away soon for you. It seems to when it is outdoors.
i suppose i can't speak for all dogs but yeah my dog doesnt seem to be a fan - dogs have much stronger sense of smell than humans. also if they get sprayed in the eyes it can really burn.
Oh I am VERY happy I did not have to watch a s. as I have a severe arachnophobia and would have let fallen my phone screaming😅. I know it makes no sense but I guess no phobia does. Liked to have a picture of a person now to combine with the commenter at Joe's channel😊

When I was in high school my parents were gone for the evening and I let my Moms dog out for a bit. I put her on her tie out and opened the door to let her out. A few minutes later…..the smell! I didn’t know what to do so I let her into the back entryway until my Mom got back home! It was so bad…it made my eyes water and burn. My week has not been great. My son has been back to school a little under 2 weeks and he already brought home COVID and gave it to me. Now I am pretty much stuck in the bedroom by myself so that I do not also give it to my elderly mother and my husband. This is the second time he gave me the gift of COVID. The first time I ended up in the ER and my last payment was this month so I hope that I don’t get that sick again. I ended up putting my Etsy store on vacation since my husband has to do my shipping and he already works full time. I didn’t want to put that responsibility on him. He has enough to do with working and now having to pick up my slack. Last night I ended up watching something like 6 episodes of Bones. I am hoping that today I find something else to keep me occupied. I really don’t love binge watching shows.
that sounds very overwhelming. sorry you had that skunk experience. i am also sorry to hear about your covid experience, i hope you are feeling better soon.
2x this week I slept with my windows open and woke up in the middle of the night to the smell of skunk. (I have no pets though)... I've been reluctant to sleep with the windows open since. I couldn't look at the insect part... {shivers} I hate insects. 😥 Rocks and crystals are cool.
@@WoodshedTheory I hope so. I have a highway near me too... so that could be an issue :( I did have one night that was okay. Last night I had the AC on since it wasn't going do much and I prefer it being below 20/68...

I am so happy to hear that the test was negative!
I am sorry you are going through a lot. It is a lot to handle right now.
Happy Monday!
Hello Claire. I am sorry about your Dog. getting sprayed by a skunk. And i had a rough weekend. I had to have blood work done at the hospital. And i have a fear of needles. And i had a meltdown and i cried.
I can relate
@@autisticMargome too!
Even when you
are grumpy. Did not notice.
I am new at this, so still learning not to beat myself up so much. Getting there.
Looking forward to your podcast, which is always educational and entertaining.
Great to have you to the channel Spencer. I think grace becomes easier with practice.
My last week: nuthin'
My next week: prolly nuthin' 😅
Hope your week has sumthin' and is happy!
I am usually "okay" with the smell but having the fresh smell flooding the inside of my house was next level. I hope your uneventful week goes great.
I passed it on to my daughter too, we were going out rock collecting sometimes together it was nice
i hope you have some peace soon
My son is struggling as well. They changed a lot of school rules over the Summer. The worst is that he managed to bring home COVID within the first week of school..(AGAIN)
@faeriesmak aww I'm sorry to hear that! Sending good vibes your way! 💞

Thank you Autumn, for showing us your bugs and rocks!
Thank you Claire, for keeping me company,

Autumn! Very cool! I could never collect bugs because I get creeped out too easily lol. But they are quite fascinating from a distance.
With spiders I don't mind looking at them, i just don't want them on me.

So I think anal glands on cats are just a bad joke of G*d, nature or whatever 🤷🏽♀️
The idea of this horrible smell in a big amount is freaking me out!!!!
I am very very sorry for every one of You who had to experience that!

We don't have skunks fortunately but our dog did roll in fox poo once which was horrendous. We were out on a walk so had to travel home with an incredibly smelly dog! The car stank for weeks!!!!
Oh yes, fox pee is a thing the dog I cared for loved to roll on🙄
And another years before found a dead fish someone left next to river we walked by in hot summer and parfumed itself so intensly rolling on it he lost control and fell into the river.
Of cause I was then also very wet and stinky and we had to walk home from the park home in central Berlin...
ewwww i'm so sorry! they do love to roll in nasty stuff

😳
I have really no idea how it smells living in Germany but the more I read I get it must be horrible.
Is it possible to call someone to get this skunk that terrorizes You and relocate it somewhere where it can leave in peace and doesn't harm anyone?
i am sorry about your skunk issue - it is difficult when they move in under houses because they are around all the time and usually getting scared and spraying.
@katz - the struggle with that is that they will spray if you catch them to relocate
I may have tried to keep it, idr it was 37 years ago, I'm sure if I tried to keep it someone stopped me.
i think many many people collect rocks - and for good reason. i like that they are all different and i like that they are ancient.
Feeling nervous to get underway...
i hope things go well at the new job :) it can take some time to get up to speed
Must be an orange cat thing as my steps in her own vomate and leaves wet footprints I can clean then🙄
I think I would just burn down the house if that would happen being totally to much to be able to deal with if it would be dog poop instead of clear slime in which some cat hairball swims...😫
Especially because it was before coffee 🙈🙈🙈 And omg, orange cats are competing ridiculous, I completely believe the theory that they all share one brain cell 😹😹😹
that sounds so overwhelming! I am so sorry.
@@nifferscritters I just saw that Your image is an orange cat in a superman-costume😻😹 Hahaha!
In fact mine is my cat too - "around the corner"😉
It is THE argentinian comic-figure "Mafalda" and my cat is named after her. I always thought she was much more clever then her brother (We adopted both from a farm, baby kittens covered in fleas and my then small son wanted a male cat looking like the famous swedish childrens book figure "Findus", a tiger cat and named him after him, so I came up with Mafalda for his sister.)
My last and one of my lifetimes biggest shutdowns was the tragic dead of Findus in april.
Dogs are sensory seeking. :)
well i wish they would sensory seek something else lol
Claire got up a little too early. 😆
yeah i did lol
I've stop compting how many time my boy Tobs tryed to play with a skunk, he was with me for nearly 17 years. The only thing he learnd from the first experience is "mom can help me"...... all the following enconter he would come to me with a big " sory help!" expression in his eyes and go in the shower by himself😂
Now I have a rehomed 13yo malamute, he got sprayed few weeks ago, I had the magical thinking that he would react the same as Tobs... did not happened... that was worse that even the first with Tobs. Choco, the malamute, did not go to the shower, he roled everywhere in the house including my bed and I ended hup runing after him with a spray bottle.... the recepie with hydrogen peroxyde and soda work amazing, if the dog let you.....
😳😱
oh no! sounds like we have had this in common.
@@WoodshedTheory ah ok, thank you.
I have had several skunk encounters.
sorry to hear that
So glad you and Amanda could connect, and thanks for sharing it with us, too.
Whoa, skunks can be the worst
Well I got offered to be a coach at the gym that I've been going to

Loved Autumn's show and tell - bugs are fascinating! I think the most interesting dead bug I've found is a large dragonfly, it was beautifully iridescent and exquisite. I do prefer them to be alive and flying around, but it was nice to be able to appreciate it's beauty. I hope your dog is smelling better now 🫣
Very cool collection, Autumn, and I loved your pics! Claire, boo on the skunk spraying. That's so not fun. I hope you have a much better week going forward.
thank you kerri
Oh and thank you Autumn for your awesome collections!!!! I have some rose quartz that sits on my desk that I love!

First, I’m SO sorry to hear about the skunking, that sounds AWFUL!!! My heart goes out to you, I hope you’re able fully re-regulate soon. ❤️
Second, I am so excited to hear that you had a talk with Amanda! She’s wonderful, I can’t wait to watch the episode! Yay!! 😁
Amanda is wonderful!

Claire, so sorry to hear about your skunk incident, it must have been a rough week. One time a skunk sprayed the side of my house. Even though it was outside the rooms on that side of the house smelled so awful for a week I couldn't go in there.
ahh yeah that doesn't sound nice at all. it is a hard smell to get out.
first of all, i'm sorry you had to experience the skunk spray again, i remember watching that pod a couple of years ago...my week ended on a high note having a dinner date with the hubby to celebrate my b-day. love the live porch coffee idea, i tend to watch the episode before keri and mara saturday mornings or first on sunday morning. how about trying to schedule it when you would normally do the filming? from my own knowledge, i think it helps to keep a routine going for those living on the neo-differvice way of life.

Looking forward to that podcast episode! 😊
I have fortunately only been subject to drive-by skunk smells, but honestly, those are bad enough.
I keep getting piles of clean vs not clean mixed up and then my partner gets hives and asthma 🤦♀️ it’s been a real mindf**k.
oh i have never heard of odorless smoke before - is it a residue it leaves?
He sounds like he was an amazing doggo!
@@WoodshedTheory lol he was! He would not go to bed until he was tucked in with his blanket and his monkey stuffy from build a bear. 😂

I have been there. Skunk is so bad when it enters the house
I'm sorry you have been there too it's awful
Hope you feel less grumpy soon!
thank you!
So. Not. Fun. Le sigh…
Hope this week is better for you! I’m looking forward to your podcast but believe me, I get not having the ability to edit!!!! So whenever it arrives it will be welcome but no pressure to get it done. 😊
i don't think i have ever seen a blue eyed cicada! i hope your home sells fast!

Oof! That's horrible! I've never experienced a pet being sprayed. And your poor dog got sprayed and probably just wanted to go home. I don't know, are dogs offended by the smell? They seem to be alright getting the smell of dead animals all over themselves on purpose.
