- Team USA beat Australia 98-92 in an exhibition Monday in Abu Dhabi in front of a record crowd of 12,217 fans at Etihad Arena. Team USA struggled at the end of a game that seemed a forgone conclusion by halftime. Team USA had too many turnovers and let Team Australia go on multiple runs. Curry hasn't quite looked himself as well as Lebron but they are getting used to playing alongside each other and Team USA are still without the services of Kevin Durant or Derrick White. 3 games remain for the start of the Olympics so we better get right in the time remaining cause things aren't looking like they will be easy.

I don't care if Magic and Bird were very much past their prime in 92, that team had chemistry, and they had a couple of real PGs that made everybody else play, regardless that they shared the ball anyways.

Its worth remembering that Team Australia is also playing around with their lineups... They were absolutely not playing at their peak. There are a number of teams in Europe and Australia/Canada who can beat Team USA in a single game elimination series, if team USA arent on their game.

Regarding your comment about USA's "Taking over" in comparison to Other teams "Team Basketball", I do feel/believe its a thing of pridefulness with certain players (or the league in general) to put players on a pedestal because of their talents and the things that they are known for doing well at! In contrast to this, Greece with their handling and coaching does not make Giannis the central point of the team, but rather as a decoy and a person to play around.

But they've committed to sharing the ball, so they all hesitate, get passive until the shot clock is down.

@@thedonjavon-23I commented to Commissioner Dynamo this USA team will go bronze or silver at best and I pointed out several reasons…too many guards and bigs that only play 1 side of the game “offense,” terrible un-cohesive team play against offensive/defensive zones/sets, LeBron, expectations to dominate every team on “name/star-power” alone resulting in lack of effort what we call “heart,” hero ball and almost non-existent team play. Guys playing iso-ball giving teams the luxury to rest on defense and single out threats on offense rendering them ineffective. It’s a mess if they do not resolve these issues fans are in for a massive disappointment.

Defensively, they'll be fine. The offense will never be as crisp as the other teams they'll face, but it's more about trying to find the right combinations of players. The only lineup that played really well vs Australia was the bench 5 of Hali-Book-Jrue-Bam-AD. They played tough defense, the offense looked a lot better, and they just played through one another with AD leading the way. It was a very well balanced lineup.
The bigger concern was the starting 5 of Steph-Ant-Tatum-LeBron-Embiid.
I've telling this to most americans, Jrue-Bam-AD should be the backbone of this team. FIBA rules(smaller court, no defensive 3 seconds) means defense needs to be emphasized. The team has enough depth to probably overcome most other teams, but if they re serious Jrue,BAm, AD and probably Steph and KD should be starting.

To me the play of team USA looks like an All-Star game - an individualistic effort of "you go, I go" without any team basketball. If they're gonna win, it might be from a solid defensive effort (just keep LeBum off the floor) and heroics by individual players (like Curry or Ant). But overall so far it doesn't look convincing.

The biggest difference, in my opinion commish, is Team USA is full of dudes who just don’t care. I don’t mean that I expect them to be super patriots who scream USA every ten seconds. I mean it’s just guys who don’t play like,they care when they are doing so for their pay checks so why do you think they are going to start caring now. International players seem to want to rep their countries and have a real stake in playing like they really want it. I’d prefer a bunch of angry hoopers who want to run up,the score and dominate rather than a team ok that they won by 6 against Australia.

I don't know, scrappy wins against tough opponents usually build character of the team, create the sense of urgency, especially during friendly games, that at the big tournament they need to be better than they are now. If they were to win all those games by 50 and the to proceed to lose first knockout game talking heads wouldn't be able to wrap their heads around it. They would have false narrative how they were better than everybody else by country miles and one slip up cost them the gold or some shit. And that would be delusional.
