    For anyone who might not understand why meniscus for lipids moves further right :
    1. RQ = CO₂ produced/O₂ taken up
    2. RQ for carbs is 1
    3. RQ for lipids is 0.7
    4. RQ for lipids is less than 1 therefore the denominator is bigger than the numerator
    5. So more O₂ taken in than CO₂ produced

      Indeed! And another way to think of it is that lipids have a lot fewer oxygen atoms than carbohydrates and therefore more oxygen has to be taken in

    can you do more of these they are so useful

    hi :)
    at 1:09:21 you drew out a grid for your answer to evaluate their conclusion, are we allowed to do this in the exam ?
    you can see the * for the level marked answer so i wasn’t sure whether they wanted it to be more neatly laid out // worded paragraphs or whether a table would be okay too !!

      I wouldn’t do a grid in the exam except for planning purposes to the side. A lot of 6 markers have a sort of “4 corners” style mark scheme though….

    38:20 I’ve been told the ones that moves the LEAST is the MOST soluble?
    in fact that was an answer on a chemistry paper which my teacher verified?
    Does anyone know where this confusion is coming from?

    • @MrMurrayBiology
      @MrMurrayBiology  2 роки тому

      Not sure why you have been told that. If something is soluble in the mobile phase then it moves more rapidly. Perhaps in the chemistry question you said it was soluble/attracted to the stationary phase? The question also asks for the least polar (which would be the most soluble as the solvent is also non polar) which could be another area of confusion

      @@MrMurrayBiology Thank you sir 🙏🏾
      yes youre correct, I checked the question again, and it was indeed asking for “most strongly adsorbed onto the stationary phase”,
      Therefore the answer was the pigment with the Smallest Rf value instead.
      Most soluble moves most
      Most absorbed moves least
      Thanks 🙏🏾

    if the regeneration of RuBP decreases wouldn't the conc of RuBP plateau instead of beginning to decrease? thank you!

    • @MrMurrayBiology
      @MrMurrayBiology  2 роки тому

      As RuBP can still be broken down during addition of CO2 and then splitting, the concentration will go down

    For Q11, since it says “ germinating seeds” doesn’t that indicate that the seeds have begun to photosynthesise?

    • @MrMurrayBiology
      @MrMurrayBiology  Рік тому

      Hi - germinate just means they are starting to grow from the seed and not that they are making their own food through photosynthesis yet. During this time the seeds are mainly respiring stored lipids or are breaking down starch/carbohydrates as sugars to respire. The seeds can only really start to photosynthesis once they've grown leaves

    Do you have the unified biology paper for 2020?
    Thanks for your help, videos are great.
