- Fashion trends come, go... and come back. Not just in the 20th century. This video shows 6 examples of fashion trends that are actually much older than you would think:
Platform shoes = chopines shoes in 16th century Venice, in Spain (first picture) and in Europe in general.
Rolled hair = macaroni men in England.
Madonna's pointy bra = bullet bras after the 2nd world war.
Pencil skirt = hobble skirt, tied around the knees or the ankles.
Padded shoulders = bombasted (padded, filled) sleeves under Elizaebth 1st.
McQueen's futuristic looks in Spring/Summer 2010 = Renaissance culottes.
WE ARE SO CLOSE TO 100,000 SUBSCRIBERS! ;-)
Thumbs up if you liked this video!

Justine Leconte officiel Congrats!!!! Such a milestone!!! And congrats to all of us too, for having such a good taste as your followers!!! 😉😃🙌👏
Your channel has grown so quickly over the past couple of weeks! 10k in the past 1-2 weeks alone! Congratulations, you deserve it :D
I am no into fashion, but I really find your videos so interesting! This is another proof that if you do something in a excellent way you can catch the attention of greenhorbs too:-) My compliments!
I love your expertise, which you present with so much charm in every one of your videos. This one I found especially interesting. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and know-how with us, which I find always to be a very special treat!
Hello Justine you are like a human fashion encyclopedia! Love your videos!!
hahaha thanks...!
Love this subject! We also had platform shoes in the 70s - think Saturday Night Fever - even men wore them. We wore them as sandals with bell-bottom pants, with colorful striped socks with short shorts, and with a-line dresses.
it's so funny, I was watching you when you had only 1000 subscribers and a few videos, thinking: why is this woman not more popular already, such interesting and to-the-point content.. and now you almost have 100 000 subscribers :) congrats! well-deserved! I'm not even into the designing of clothes, but I watch all of your videos and find them fascinating! merci beaucoup y un bisou d'Autriche!
+buxbam then you are one of my very early subscribers!! I am very happy that you kept watching all this time - and thanks for the kind comment. It means a lot ☀
Dear Justine, you are such a warm & lively speaker that you seem to be speaking only to me in your videos. I know very little about fashion & have learned so much from you. En précis, je veux vous souhaiter tout les bonnes choses dans la vie, et je vous envoie un grand embrace! Affecteusement ~ Amy
Hello Justine! Your channel is really amazing and the effort that you put in all videos (because I imagine that a 5 minutes video is hours of research) is absolutely admirable. Also I like the fact that you manage to transform the image of the fashion industry, generally associated to vanity and shallowness, into a deep topic which requires thought and reflexion. So thank you very much for this quality work that you share with us in such a humble way.
I'm so glad that you mentioned Alexander McQueen! He was so fascinating and such a brilliant designer. Unbelievably creative. I am just reading his biography now.
Salut Justine, I discovered your channel a few days ago and I love it! Such great information :) xx

You are amazing! I never cared for fashion (we're talking "must Google the difference between an A-line dress and a sheath" levels here), but your videos are so charming and informative, I just love watching them!

Very interesting observation Justine! I look forward to your videos every week and appreciate how you present them. You have a knack with timing, especially. What I mean is, you present the information without making it too long and boring and also by throwing in your funny comments. Thank you very much :)
Thank you Justine for an other informative video - your knowledge and sense of humor are very inspiring :-)
Thank you for the video Justine! I feel like I have learned a fair amount of fashion history from watching your videos.
Please film more videos about the history of fashion :D maybe a video series, where you analyze past fashion century by century? Would be SO interesting, I think!
+Lichtumwoben great suggestion, thank you!

Thank you for sharing that. Very interesting and made me smile. 👍
+Anne Petzer thank you!
Fascinating! I had no idea abt the platform shoes, lol.
So fascinating! I've recognized a very few "trends" that were reminiscent of previous eras, but after watching your video, I'm amazed I didn't recognize more similarities on my own. You're right - fashion used to be decidedly more extreme! 😂
+Danson for Joy definitely 😁😉
I loved this video! You have such a great personality, Justine and your vidoes are so informative.
I have never been into fashion before but I love your channel. 😊
are you going to continue doing your french series? a lot of us have actually been waiting for more of those. thank u for sharing ur knowledge :)
+Karla Linares do you have questions/topics to suggest?
What in general is characteristic of the lifestyle of french women, like what could u say is characteristic of french women to normally spend their free time, general hobbies u could say french women enjoy in general, or just secrets on just about any topic of french women u coul share. What do they do to lead a healthy lifestyle? What does a typical french woman or man breakfast lunch dinner look like, etc. (i know bread is a favorite in general for instance). it could be just about any knowledge on french way of living u could share will be great :)
loved it!! ✨✨
Very informative as usual Justine 👏
Fashion history is soooo interesting! Thank you for this great video.
It is so nice to listen your advice. I am using it as I build a new wardrobe. Thank you.
+Lisa Lahr cool, good luck with your wardrobe!!
Thanks.
Hi Justine, I saw an article a while back on BBC that connected the advent of the hobble skirt to Princess Alexandra who had a leg deformity (possibly due to polio?) and walked with a limp. Since she was the wife of the Prince of Wales, and Victoria was stuck in her mourning clothes, she became the fashion/style icon that many women wanted to copy. Including her limp! Hobbling the skirts became a way to affect the 'Alexandra limp' that was very popular for about 18-24 months.
fascinating!
Congratulations on hitting 100,000 subscribers!! You deserve it! :)
+Charlie and Egon thank you! 🤗

Hi and good morning Justine! Wow just another wealth of information. I am a researcher like you on many topics, just love it, but your depth of research is just so wonderful regarding fashion, for me, especially, one who is interested and knows not where to start, you have made it so easy and I do love each and every video you provide, thank you so much, I have more lovely books thanks to you as well, so learning along with you! So appreciate your wonderful videos on a subject I have always loved and now learning more about! sincerely, Kat =^.^= have a wonderful day!
Love the history insights of these styles.... great work Justine. I'm your new subbie from Indonesia x
This was so fun and different!
bonjour!!i'm surprised at the little happy "ahaaa " moment that ran when this new video of yours was showed in my wall........I love you more everyday!!!keep up sweetheart...I am not that much into fashion.....,yet I find you amazingly charming. keep up with your quality content. much love from Nepal.
Congratulations Justine! You scaled so quickly-- thank you for your super interesting channel. My mother was a rep for a very old US brand called Doncaster. She had trunk shows four times a year out of our house. She had binders of fabric swatches and her friends would come over and order dresses to custom fit their bodies and chose the fabric. Can you imagine this, it's true! It is this background which has made me love fashion and high quality clothes so I love and appreciate your desire to teach us to be choosy and buy quality.
What is really upsetting to me however, is the extreme price spike in high quality clothes and shoes. And after the 2009 recession gorgeous brands from Europe I can no longer find, like Hogan, for example. But it's the prices that has upset me the most. Shoes for $350 as a standard price and they go up from there. 350.00 was considered so expensive and now it's not??
How did this happen, why do women agree to pay this price? Can this ever change?
Thank you again for your channel :) Cynthia
+Pearl Post hi, some brands decide to "switch" price classes. It doesn't mean that all their existing customers have more money, but they decide to stop catering for those ones and want other ones instead. Risky strategy but can work if you have a famous face (Karl Lagerfeld) and big budgets. Alexander Wang or Zadig&Voltaire did the same thing. Don't worry, there are other brands (and new ones appearing all the time) in the former price range of e.g. Hogan.
Loving your videos so much!! 💓🙆💓 Hugs & sunshine ☀ N
+Sunshine Crystal hi there 🤗 🌞🌞🌞

+Theresa Novak soon, soon. In the past I haven't documented my creative work (logistically complicated) but now I do.
Super cool video, very interesting 😍 xx
I love your smile so much Justine!
Could you make a video about your favourite shops/brands you wear? I'd like to start buying more consciously and better quality (yes, your influence ;) ) but I don't know where to look for such clothes.
I am 62 and now wear some articles of fashion that were in style in my youth in the 70’s (styled to be age appropriate, of course)! Nothing isREALLY “new”!
hi Justine, i really love your delicate mood, you're very chic
+P. Bleve oh thank you so much for your contribution!! 🎉👍🌟
