I know you have a relationship to Geoff, but back then, I was not as keen on Mr.Keighley and loved Joel Mchale making Geoff squirm after how he once treated Angry Joe a few years prior. Jeff Winger clowning on Geoff like he was Chevy Chase
I was one of the dozen live viewers lol. Got my first job around this time and the wii u was my only console. First game I spent with my own hard earned money was actually tropical freeze! Love the wii u era and this podcast brought back some forgotten memories i had watching this! What a time, thank you
I just went back and watched the original clip, and I can’t stop being impressed at how quick on his feet Reggie was. I don’t think many corporate folks could have handled that so smoothly!
This story is wild lol. I had no idea of all the drama going on in the background, but it definitely explains why Geoff was ticked off the whole night. Good thing Reggie loves a challenge and made fun out of it!
Even if everything had gone perfectly, and as a genuine fan of DK Tropical Breeze, the Kranky reveal is such a lame and disappointing thing to bring on stage. Like its barely above nothing. Definitely one of Nintendos most cringe public moments.
My favorite Geoff and Reggie moment was when Geoff was grilling Reggie about the Arkham City Wii U port. Geoff thought it wasn't new enough and nobody wants to buy the game a second time, and Reggie was trying his best to claim the port was very unique and you should buy it again 😂 For what it's worth I played that port and there wasn't enough new stuff to justify buying again, but that was fine with me since I hadn't played the game before.
Oh that's a defining moment of gaming history for me. I remember watching live on Spike TV with my dad and brothers and just being baffled that this was a real interview.
I've always been confused about Reggie and Geoff's relationship... Geoff often seemed to take the piss out of Reggie/Nintendo in various interviews... I always assumed Reggie hated Geoff but in other settings he acts like he's still buddy or at least professional buddies with Geoff.
After watching the new Game Awards, i gotta say that they don't compare to the absolute madness that were the 2013 VGX. I miss Joel McHale, especially for putting the people behind the scenes on their toes. It made the event feel like an actual show.
I think this was the first time I watched the game awards. 💀 I didn't even know who Joel McHale was and admittedly felt trolled by the Metroid pin. I remember the reaction to that being not great as it wasn't a good time to pay acknowledgement to Metroid, but it definitely wasn't off brand for Reggie with the following Mother 3 memes among other things. My biggest takeaway was Geoff though. I thought he came across as the biggest a-hole and was really put off by how little respect for Nintendo he had to poke and prod like that. I don't think I made it much further into the show. I'm still pretty indifferent about the game awards but he has won back a lot of respect from me for taking over where E3 really fell off. I can't deny he demonstrates his passion for the industry well in spite of many curve balls.
still remember that show with cranky... luckily the TGAs are now a lot better as is nintendo... But I do not expect anything from Nintendo at the event, they seem to not care a lot about it
That awards show was truly legendary for all the wrong reasons (or maybe right?)! Watching back, I'm still surprised by Geoff being so direct with Reggie that fans were going to be disappointed, but to be fair, he was completely right! I can remember being a dissilusioned Nintendo fan at the time, eagerly anticipating the show, being extremely underwhelmed, and then having Geoff basically say to Nintendo's face that they kinda sucked. I mean, even without the leak, I can remember thinking "why go to an awards show that's all about big announcements, right at the start of a new console's lifecycle, just to announce an extra playable character?" I feel like Nintendo are way more cautious with that stuff these days and know that sometimes silence is better than producing something lame. Or maybe it's just that they've never been in a position since of playing with such a weak hand. Super interesting hearing your guys' inside perspective on it ten years later! In retrospect, hearing your guys' thinking on what a tough situation you were in but feeling the desire to show something, it makes way more sense. Still such an unbelievable show 10 years later!
After hearing that Umbrella history, as a Venezuelan I have to say this: Coño, menos mal te salvó un buhonero. 🤣🤣🤣 Translation: Dammit, good thing that seller saved you. 🤣🤣🤣 Too bad you didn't asked for the name, I swear it if it was something like Juan or Jose I would just flip, like a South Park moment. 🤣
It was Viacom made on 2011? The Black Keys played back then, it was awesome. The Game Awards now are terrible. You mentioned how Spike wanted to cater to "Hollywood", but still the Game Awards has actors invited, and sometimes, they get the main spot, like that time Vin Diesel came to promote that awful Fast & Furious game, and Keighley, what a terrible host he is, zero personality, and the focus is more on the reveals, than on the awards themselves, and that's an insult to developers.
@@themonado5030 It was in 2004, he was introduced on the Zelda Forums as “the new Nintendo employee”. The Zelda Forums were owned and operated by Nintendo of America, and all employees had “NOA_” in front of their name, so he was NOA_REGGIE with the mod icon. (Only a few staff members like Andy had the Admin icon, the rest of the staff had a Mod icon). I sent him a message welcoming him to the site and he replied that I’m below him since he’s a Nintendo employee and I’m not, and to never message him again. Meanwhile all the other staff members were friendly and would constantly message users, but Reggie wasn’t having any of that. He was an off-putting jerk from the very beginning until the site shut down.
@@EPS5000I'm finding it hard to believe he said that you are beneath him. If he asked you not to message him, that would be absolutely right and fair enough. It would have been highly irregular for Nintendo employees to be allowed to chat casually with a non Nintendo employee online about a game franchise. I mean, it would be unusual now never mind in 2004. That's also pre-NoA president days for him. Sounds like a bit of a misunderstanding that's been compounded by 20 years of simmering, honestly.
This story is NUTS and I knew nothing about it. Thank you so much for sharing the behind the scenes to us
Yo necisito doce paraguas
yo quiero taco bell
Tittle of this video should be "Yo necesito 12 paraguas" haha
Forget the game awards. I want to see Reggie and Geoff have a rematch to decide who gets to have the title of “Dorito Pope”.
These are the stories we can’t get anywhere else. I love it. Lol
Kit’s Devil Wears Prada moment ☂️
I love Joel McHale but I cannot imagine how stressful it has to be to mix his sense of humor with the traditional Nintendo brand concerns
Just watched the clip compilations - Joel was hilarious, especially regarding Titan Fall lol 😂
Well he made a 3DS commercial for Nintendo so it must not have been stressful
the umbrella part is the most riveting thing to me. what a wild, inane thing to have happen to you

Those umbrellas basically spawned on the street like in a game! The timing is insane!!
I remember watching this, mainly for Joel McHale. It was hilarious, but mostly awkward. Nice to hear the inside scoop on this!
This story is wild lol. I had no idea of all the drama going on in the background, but it definitely explains why Geoff was ticked off the whole night. Good thing Reggie loves a challenge and made fun out of it!
You are close with people at Retro??? What have they been doing between Tropical Freeze Switch and Metroid Prime 4? It's such a mystery.
Omg these stories are so funny!
kit and krysta podcast DLC yayy!

I think Nintendo should bring in Reggie at the Game Awards and come out and announce Mother 3 English translation.
This was awesome, I’m so glad I got to hear it 😂

Listening to this makes me wanna play Tropical Freeze again
Actually think the Seahawks comment was Joel trying to lighten up a super uncomfortable situation more than anything else and just change the topic.
I knew that show was bad… but I forgot just HOW bad. Here I was thinking the Bill Clinton incident was the worst of TGA’s mishaps
Went and watched the VGA segment and wow, that was hilarious
Geoff's fit was really something. Maybe that era of him had to be belittled to get to what we have now 😂
I've always been confused about Reggie and Geoff's relationship... Geoff often seemed to take the piss out of Reggie/Nintendo in various interviews... I always assumed Reggie hated Geoff but in other settings he acts like he's still buddy or at least professional buddies with Geoff.
I know and have worked with Vince. To see him in that situation is so painful, but I'm sure today we can now look back and laugh a little.
Okay, I've just checked it out and I do vaguely remember seeing at least some of it. Gosh. An experience! 🤣
After watching the new Game Awards, i gotta say that they don't compare to the absolute madness that were the 2013 VGX.
I miss Joel McHale, especially for putting the people behind the scenes on their toes. It made the event feel like an actual show.
I live in South America, and I understood clearly: "Yo necesito 12 paraguas". Nice spanish!
Reggie's legend grows ever larger.

That was great Spanish!! ❤😂

Pretty decent Spanish there @ 18:21
As a certified Spaniard, can corroborate.

Is that a BAND-MAID shirt Krysta?
Joel saved the show lol. He took what would have otherwise just been a big commercial and turned it into something funny and entertaining.
YO NECESITO 12 PARAGUAS
I remember Mega64 did a video for VGX hahahahahaha!
lol just went and watched a cringe compilation of Joel at VGX 🤣
2:09 Iffy gesture? 🤗
Talk about going down memory lane
I know the story behind the pins 😉
Is Krysta Math anything like Steiner Math?
Haha tu español es BUENO 😆
Debería hacer la próxima introducción en español

STRONG disagree. Watch the 2013 one or the Spike ones. They are MILES better. Still room for improvement
How lovely it is that I can completely disagree with your comment, yet we can continue to live our lives in peace 😂✌️
@@markieman64 yes, continue to watch that crap show!
@@TheArtunism yeah, Vin Diesel makes it better, I guess.
I hate Reggie so much, he insulted me back in 2004 and I’m still angry about it.
Please give us the juicy gossip
@kellyrousseau3839that’s the weirdest made up story I’ve heard recently…
@kellyrousseau3839I think this copypasta was used for Jerma…
