Today, when writing what I was grateful for, I could only think: GOW community and Santa Monica devs. Reading your comments is like a spiritual experience for me lol!! I feel so proud to be a gamer, and a God of War fan. I feel very connected to you all through a screen, to share such a universal experience makes me feel not alone. I wish I knew you all when I was younger. 🌞✨
I have seen all your GoW journeys, I am happy. You were amazing throughout the games. I hope I will see you once again with the next GoW installment, hope it won't take much time. Goodbye and Take care and be happy. ♥️
2:02:09 "You are more than that. You have always been more than what others saw." I feel like this was the devs telling us players that Kratos wasn't a 1 dimensional angry person with no character development that almost everyone believed. The biggest fight is always with yourself, with your own mind.
"I believe I would like to sit here for a while." The little smile that Mimir gives after Kratos says that brings me so much joy. And I also love the music playing during the credits. The mix of Kratos' old God of War theme song and his Norse theme is perfect.
Bear really went HARD. I feel like all the actors & devs did with this DLC. So great when you can see the effects of a project the whole team is passionate about!
YOU CHOSE...! ...I...chose... Finally accepting his past self as an actual part of himself, and not a disconnected caricature, a nightmare filling his conscience with guilt.
I don’t understand the people who say Kratos is too soft now. They want him to be the same as he was back then, but the problem with that is that he can’t stay angry all the time. The older people get, the more we reflect on our actions in the past. Kratos is more emotionally stable now and is more caring towards people. If that’s considered “soft”, then it’s a compliment.
The sequence between Kratos and his younger self reminds me of a therapy technique therapists use called the empty chair technique. Its quite interesting. Basically, the client sits on a chair whilst facing an empty chair, and imagines someone sitting on that chair, whether it be someone they used to know like an ex or a deceased person, themselves, etcetera. Its mainly more structured, and it makes the person face their issues in the present moment..very helpful for those with post traumatic stress or in grief.
What i love about that final shot of kratos on the throne, is that it looks like the ashes of his family have finally worn away in the fade away, showing he truly did find redemption
Kratos coming full circle taking the throne he grew to despise. He hated the gods. And hated himself for being one. And now he will eventually be seen as the new all father figure. Even if he is only part of the council. He led the rebellion. He helped rebuild. His apprehension to taking the throne shows how deserving he is of it. Hes learned so much. And here he is bathed in light.
"Bathed in light" thank you for this--I was trying to figure out why the lighting affected me so much, and it's so unique. I believe that's exactly what the devs intended ❤❤❤
The opposition between how young Kratos sits on his thrown compared to to old Kratos is brilliant. Young Kratos is unmoving. Stoic. Unaffected by his surroundings. Alone. And angry. Old Kratos is the opposite when he sits. He's in touch with his environment. Content. At peace. And most importantly, not alone. With friends like Mimir by his side.
I cried at this ending too. It's really to think about what we would say to our younger selves who struggle with our past, but the hard part is admiting it out loud. This DLC is all time great, just like the full game, the series, and the franchise. Great job Meg
I think, in a beautifully ironic way, everyone who worked on these new games have placed themselves in service like Kratos, allowing us to go along for this journey. Bravo to everyone involved, and the biggest thank you for your work.
Never once after playing all the original series of the God of War games years ago did I ever suspect they would one day be associated with some of the best character pieces in games.
The best King's and Leader's are those who never wanted to be King's or Leader's but because of who they were and what they did for the people next to them they were more than deserving of Title and Leadership. Hail King Kratos God Of War Who Inspires Hope.
The way the kusic keeps changing when talking about his past and who he is now was perfect. When chastising his past, classic kratos theme plays. When he has moments of true reflection, his new theme, Atreus' theme and Fayes theme plays alternatively.
I didn't even consider this while they were going through Valhalla. Mimir was doing similar work to ensure he'd be a great advisor and right hand man. 😭
Once a broken man now sits in the broken throne, the throne of hope, the last thing that remains after war, death and pain. Hope has its champion, now, greece awaits for it to return.
It’s a shame TC Carson and Santa Monica aren’t on speaking terms right now. Because hearing Carson and Judge speak to each other in that final moment would’ve been mind blowing
you are very entertaining and sweet thanks for this playthrough. Stories are our human expression and communication and as a 46 yr old when PlayStation 1 came out who knew this would be the result a marvellous game.
BRASIL IS HERE! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. That DLC is a masterpiece and Kratos has a unique background shaped all over this years (since 2005).
If you'd have told me before 2018 that out of all the big buff dudes that existed solely to extoll a disgusting male power fantasy that Kratos would be the one I'd feel most connected to I'd have scoffed, but it's worth noting that his legacy makes the catharsis all the truer. Those of us that've been hurt and hurt in turn and have tried to disengage from that cycle can see him as a wonderful proxy for that, but also for the writing of the era the original GoW came out. We're all growing and acknowledging that growth can be hard. I loved experiencing these games with you, Meg. You're a wonderful and genuine person.
@@ScorZulu Firstly there's one thing to remember that Kratos gave his power of hope to the mankind in the end of GOW so maybe they survive? And yeah, if we think about what Freya said about Greek land getting destroyed and Kratos loosing his old magical and godly powers, but still According to Tyr, there were survivors in Greece that eventually rebuild the world as they spoke of Kratos' act of ripping Helios' head off. Plus there were dozens of Greek Gods that never made it into the game or never battled with Kratos. Who knows if Greece survives because of them? Possibilities are endless and then he could actually go back and help rebuild the place his past actions destroyed. Could be his another redemption arc
So good to see the Reaction from people who actually played the OG Games & actually feels the weight of this Scene. I cringe everytime someone calls the Blade of Olympus "That's a big Sword" 😂
Hey Meg, congrats on beating Valhalla! I'm glad to see you enjoyed yourself with the DLC, there is something I was hoping to see you react to, but I guess the next best thing is hinting at where you can find it, if you go into the outfit pedestal you should be able to press down on one of the analog sticks to use a new and special look. Also, you should have access to this new look (In the character screen) and the Blade of Olympus in New Game + once you've gone to Sindri's house and opened the chest
2:00:50 when he says theres no forgiving you, you chose, that always hits me cause ive done things that ive regretted and theres times i wanna confront my young self likw this so i can beat him up, wouldn't care if it affected me as well

Its a beautiful story of redemption. A man who was fueled by rage and seeing the destruction he caused. To forgive himself and accept his decisions is not easy. Everyone wants a redemption story from the evils they've done to others and themselves, via words or actions. Everyone relates to this because we're all looking for that redemption.
Coming back to this, I just wanted to say that I adore what they decided to place behind the door. it could have been Zeus, it could have been Kratos daughter. Instead, it's not only himself but *not* a boss battle against himself. Instead he must look upon the man he was, the man he became and them man he in many ways still is. Self-reflection, that is the true boss battle.
I'm not the first to notice this, and it might not even be intentional. But with the fadeout from Kratos and Mimir on the throne, near the end of it, it looked for a bit that Kratos' ashes were gone.
The Weapons Tyr Uses: -Spear and Shield (These were his weapons seen on the statue of him) - A Macuahuitl (Aztec Mace) - Two Khopesh (Egyptian Sabers) - Katana (Japanese Sword) It is noted that many of these Weapons were gifts that people from other cultures gave to Tyr while he was traveling outside the Nordic world. It is curious that people who had other deities became fond enough of Tyr to give him these gifts, as we were told in The first Norse game in Tyr's chamber he visited many cultures to gain knowledge and people gave him many gifts as a sign of affection, Tyr was a God who literally traveled to many places to help and learn and by not interfering with the government others deities because he only dedicated himself to helping his people. I wouldn't be surprised if Tyr had also become friends with the Aztec, Egyptian and Japanese gods.

I knew that the final scene would break you as it did me aswell. In Greece Kratos was forced upon the throne by gods who hated him and by people who feared him. In Norse Kratos takes the throne by his own right and deed and is encouraged by gods who see him as a brother and friend and is worshipped by people who see him as a hero and love him because of what he is to them not just what he can do for them.
Yeah in greece he was a mess he tried to kill himself and was suicidal jumping off that mountain and thinking of jumping every now and then and lived in hate since he killed his own wife and child and the gods drinking tee and eating pop corn while at it…..here he was at peace finally.

Agreed. Like, you can have him in more games but his story and character arc should remain done. This is clearly a story that means so much to many people. I hope they dont sully that to sell more games.
now all that its leff for kratos i think is to accept the blades rather than trying to get rid of them and use them do do the oposite he did in older gow i could be rong tho
In the main game, he does say that he made peace with his blades. And when you do the Berserker fights, the final one is the King and you get his sword. Mimir is not that happy because his sword has a terrible past but Kratos says it doesn't matter and what's important is how they use it in the future. Someday the good it makes could outshine the terrible past. Same goes for his blades. He even starts treating them better as the game goes. When he goes to sleep in Sindri's house, he drops the blades to the floor but puts the axe gently on a table. At the end before Ragnarok, he hangs the blades on a tent post and put the axe with them.
The same guy who started his game by having Kratos jumping off a cliff to end himself because the Gods didn't take away his nightmares doesn't like the new emotional Kratos.
