The MS-1 has become one of my favorite synths! If you have a Zoia, try running that through the VCA! It’s fantastic!
I love the sounds from your boutique Roland SH, How does the sound compare to the Roland Aira S-1?
These are quite close to my surprise. I'd choose the SH-01a over the S-1, though as I find the interface still within tolerable regions. The S-1 is just a bit too small but it's a very cool synth, too. Plus, it can offer sounds that aren't possible with the SH-01a
My 2 cents: First, a short disclaimer - I, like many others, was misled (or name it as you want) by an online store claiming this was the MKII, but it wasn't. Reluctant to leave things unfinished, I thought, 'Well, give it a shot and at least offer some presets that interested viewers might copy.' So here it is: the MS1 MKI, years after the official release...
In any case, it's a very nice-sounding synth, and in many settings, I've captured that vibe that reminded me of the SH-101. However, I clearly missed the smooth melancholy/mellow sound that the SH-101 offers in many settings (which, in my opinion, is even better reproduced on the SH-01a by Roland), especially when using the envelope on pulse width.
But then again, the MS1-MKI can stand on its own and be a nice-sounding synth at a quite affordable price. I absolutely liked the additional features such as Filter FM or the three LFO speed settings. On the other hand, I missed auto-glide a lot.
TL;DR: It has a nice 101-inspired sound and offers a fast workflow, but it's not super close to the original. However, that's not a bad thing, as the slightly more HiFi sound character, plus the additional features, give it a nice modern touch here and there.
Interesting, do you prefer this or the SH01a?
I prefer the SH-01a tbh for everything SH-101 in a live situation or as a nice-sounding poly synth.
I've sent the MS-1 back after doing that video. It's not bad at all but it doesn't do anything other synths in my setup don't cover.

If you’re into modular, it’s a must have! I started with the Zoia effects then wait, let’s create a voice and run through the VCA, then added another oscillator,then two, then, three and the Fable into effects I wanted it to be a phat 2600 sound but I didn’t want to use up the 2600 just on this, so I got two more oscillators! So now it’s got 7 including the Zoia! lol

Considering how close the mk1 is to the 101 I can’t image it being miles ahead,it’ll be worth buying if you haven’t got the mk1 but not worth buying if you have got the mk1 in my opinion,I’ve got an original sh101 and a mk1 ms1,I’ve got the sh101 in my old not very reliable synth museum along with a load of other synths I’ll never sell but when I want the sh101 I use the ms1 and I’m never left feeling like i prefer the original sound not once have I felt that,each to their own though I suppose

Cannot see what the MK2 could change in this synth. The synth sounds like a Roland mono synth with all its craft. Maybe the MK2 will add another osc.
Adding BA662 VCAs and Auto-glide would come to my mind, first. Also the MS-1 MKI sounds good on its own, but even Roland did a slightly better job with their Boutique-Version when it comes to an accurate SH-101 emulation.
And I usually find the Boutiques rather underwhelming (as emulations of the originals, not as synths on their owen)
